12-hour layover at NRT or ICN?

What do you guys think? For NRT I'll be there 7am-6pm; ICN will be 5am-6pm. Will be there on February 3rd and looking to visit the cities (possibly just Narita City for NRT since Tokyo is a bit further?).

All I know is for the airport itself, ICN>NRT

Thanks!

Quick question on batch renaming (batch scripting)

Hello sifus!

I'm trying to batch rename files in a directory containing files in the following name pattern:

CODE

xxxtemplatexxxxx.xxx

The x's may not be the same. I want to replace template with the date, for example 201307.

I tried

CODE

ren *template* *201307*

But it appended 201307 to the end instead.

Thanks!

Calling Database sifu - Access and SQL

I have just recently been given a project to do, but I have ZERO experience in Access or SQL.

Basically we get this text file that is imported into Access, we process it then export the processed data into Excel. Soon the text file will come with more columns, and some of the column arrangements has changed. My boss said "it might be just a change in the query" when he gave me the project. Is this more of an Access problem or an SQL problem? Should I get self-help on Access or SQL? :\

Thanks in advance!

Trying to reinstall Windows 7, failing

Just got a new ThinkPad. Swapped the HDD for the SSD used on my old laptop, and would like to reinstall Windows so all the junk from the previous system will be removed. But I am having some trouble.

The SSD boots fine, I am using it right now. It is Windows Ultimate, whereas the Windows on my USB boot drive is Home Premium.
Getting a T430 ThinkPad, which processor?

So I am getting a new ThinkPad T430 to replace my dead 4.5year-old Dell Vostro 1500.

Processor
Intel Core i3-2370M Processor (3M Cache, 2.40GHz)

[add $30.00] Intel Core i5-3210M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz)

[add $85.00] Intel Core i5-2520M Processor (3M Cache, 2.50GHz)

[add $85.00] Intel Core i5-3320M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz)

[add $135.00] Intel Core i5-3360M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz)

[add $275.00] Intel Core i7-3520M Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz)

I want this laptop to last me for a long time. I tend to have many tabs open in my browsers, stream HD videos and game of course (and I like to keep my browser open while gaming too).

I was thinking of getting the 3210M, but was wondering if the 2520M or 3320M is worth the extra $55? I will be getting a discrete graphics card.

Thanks.

~600000 Macs hit with Flashback Trojan

QUOTE

Analysis of a recent Java flaw exploited by the Flashback Trojan reveals that more than 550,000 Macs were affected in the U.S. and abroad, according to anti-virus vendor Doctor Web.

"This once again refutes claims by some experts that there are no cyber-threats to Mac OS X," Doctor Web said in a Tuesday blog post.
About 56.6 percent of the infected computers, or 303,449, are located in the U.S., while 19.8 percent are in Canada, 12.8 percent are in the U.K., and 6.1 percent are in Australia, Doctor Web said. For more, see the map below.

As PCMag's Security Watch noted yesterday, Mac users did not have to download or even interact with the malware to become infected. Websites exploited a Java flaw that let Flashback.K download itself onto Macs without warning. It then asked users to supply an administrative password, but even without that password, the malware was already installed.

"The exploit saves an executable file onto the hard drive of the infected Mac machine. The file is used to download malicious payload from a remote server and to launch it," Doctor Web said.

Doctor Web posted a list of some of the websites containing the malicious code, including ustream.rr.nu, bestustreamtv.rr.nu, ironmanvideo.rr.nu, godofwar3.rr.nu, and more. But in all, "links to more than four million compromised web-pages could be found on a Google SERP at the end of March," the firm said.
Some of those who posted to the Apple forums also reported being infected after visiting dlink.com.

The attacks started in February via two particular exploits before switching to another one in March. Apple didn't patch the problem until April 3, however. Doctor Web recommended that all users install the update to prevent infections.

Oracle fixed the same security flaw for Java for Windows, Linux, and Unix in February, Security Watch said.

As Sophos noted in a Wednesday blog post, this is the second widespread malware attack infecting Apple's OS X in the last year. The first one popped up in the first half of 2011, but after a Russian cybercriminal Pavel Vrublevsky was arrested, the "problem appeared to be solved," wrote Sophos analyst Chester Wisniewski.

With this latest threat, Wisniewski said Sophos "received a reasonable amount of criticism (as we do every time we discuss Mac threats) about over-hyping the risk and trying to scare people into installing our *free* protection." But, he continued, the "number of attack reports from our customers increased dramatically in the last few days."

Wisniewski also suggested that users install the Apple update, but insisted that "Mac users can no longer rely on simply updating their computers. Preventative protection is an essential defense mechanism to detect and thwart future attacks."

PCMag source

BBC source

According to Dr. Web's statistics, those in Malaysia probably need not worry.

Sorry if repost.

CAR STOLE- wait, no.

QUOTE

Two would-be carjackers in St. Petersburg foiled by car's stick shift

ST. PETERSBURG — Two would-be carjacking victims still have their car after their assailants were thwarted by an unlikely ally: The car's stick shift.

Police said a 45-year-old man was dropping off a work truck on the 1000 block of 31st Street S just before 1 a.m. His 23-year-old girlfriend came to pick him up in her 2007 Nissan, which has a manual transmission.

She stopped to let her boyfriend get out and lock up at the business' gate. As he returned to the car and the pair got ready to drive away, two men appeared on either side, police said.

One pulled out a handgun and told them to get out or they would shoot. The couple got out. The two men demanded money and a cell phone, but apparently only got the latter, police said.

The men then jumped into the vehicle and started it up, but that's where they were foiled. They couldn't drive a stick.

Police said the two men gave up and ran north on 31st Street.

They were both described as black, 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 9, medium build with dreadlocks and no facial hair. They were wearing black-hooded jackets and black jeans.

Police ask anyone with information to call them at (727) 893-7780.

sos

Auto cars getting more and more popular. More and more people don't know how to drive manual, even in Malaysia - many only drive auto after getting license. What's your view?

Problem with 2D Array Algorithm

I have a m*n 2D array where I want all elements to point to an array that contains pointers of all the other elements next to it.

ie.

CODE

a b c
d e f
g h i

I want e to point to an array that contains 8 pointers, each pointing to a, b, c, etc. respectively; g should point to an array that contains pointers to d, e and h. ...etc.

I can't figure the proper algorithm to do this. My code right now manually assigns each of the 8 pointers, which ..well isn't ideal at all. Not to mention that I'll need to do special cases for the elements at the corners with duplicate code.

Any suggestions on how to achieve this? Thank you!

Bug with tag @ Codemasters

The quick tag filter for C++ leads to http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showforum=12&tag=C++ which filters thread tagged with C.
Daylight Savings Time Adjustment

Clock is frozen at 12:59. Is this how Android treats DST going off? (I'm assuming that it's just waiting for the next hour to arrive; hopefully not actually stuck )

Minor issue, but it's annoying nonetheless. Just because there is a DST adjustment doesn't mean time frozen - damnit.

Nigerian actor freed after 25 bowel movements

QUOTE

A leading Nigerian comic actor arrested on suspicion of ingesting drugs to smuggle to Europe was on Friday freed on bail after 25 closely monitored bowel movements produced nothing suspicious.

Babatunde Omidina, known by his stage name Baba Suwe, was arrested last month at Lagos's international airport where he had been due to take a flight to France.

But after 24 days in detention during which his bowel movements were earnestly followed by authorities and the media, an apologetic High Court judge in Lagos ordered his release.

Judge Yetunde Idowu told the frail and emaciated looking actor: "I wish you well. Take care of yourself. You are free to go home."

Omidina was detained on October 12 as he was about to board an Air France flight to Paris. The drug enforcement agency said he had "allegedly tested positive to drug ingestion."

"There have been several examinations carried out on him and no banned substances have so far been found," his lawyer Bamidele Aturu told the court on Friday.

"He has excreted more than 25 times," he later told AFP.

Nigeria is a major drug trafficking hub for European bound drugs from Latin America.

Bowel sauce

Anyone wanna apply to be a Bowel Movement Monitor?

Need help with searching through a tree

I have a tree where each node holds its name, number of subtree, and pointer to array of N subtrees.

I want to search for a particular node
- if found, print out the name of each node that leads to that node, and return the address of the node
- if not found, return NULL.

This is my current implementation:

CODE

Tree* findNode(Tree *t, string name, string build) {
if ((*t).name == name) {
cout << build << (*t).name << endl;
return t;
}
build = build + (*t).name + " ";
int n = (*t).numSubtrees;
if (n == 0) return NULL;
for (int i=0; i<n; i++) {
findNode((*t).subtree[i], name, build);
}
}

This works at finding nodes. However, it does not guarantee the correct return value. Even if the node is found, the return value may still some times be NULL. I understand why this happens, but can't seem to figure out the correct algorithm to achieve my goal.

Could you guys guide me to getting it fixed?

Thanks!
