hard drive failed!

this morning, i grabbed my external hard disk which had been lying around to view some old files. i noticed the casing was jutting out abit, and suspected that it had dropped. plugged it in, and as i had predicted, it amazingly crashed. the ticking noise was present, and the hard disk isn't recognized. there are files which i need to recover, and please help me suggest any solution.
