Hi guys, am a user of Chi-fi IEM for a while now, they are affordable & have been serving me well so far, but I feel certain models can be improved in terms of their canal fit, SQ/EQ fine tuning etc.

Have went on a couple of forums such as head-fi and read about what they do there for mods and I notice generally IEM mods are done either by upgrading the cable from the tangly 4-core cable to 8 core/16 core, some even went as far as breaking the shell apart and insert the drivers into a new silicone mold DIY at home, and modifying eartips.

So I just like to see if anyone here has done any such mods before and what sort of improvements have you seen so far.

Stuff I have right now:
KZ ZSN Pro, ZST pro, ZS4, ZSX(incoming)
Nicehck DB3, CCA C12
Some cheap QKZs which I tried when I started out and then gave away as presents.

Stuff I tried:
Flipped Starline ear tips
custom hybrid silicone + foam tips (used some budget friendly chifi foam eartips and stuff it into the silicone tips; also tried stuffing other things like soundproof/packaging foam)

Yet to try:
DIY silicone mold as IEM outer shell

Taking apart the default IEM cables and turning them into 8/12/16 core cables w/ extension. (This one had me a little hesitant because I know the connectors are quite small, and i'm concerned I may end up damaging them while soldering due to shaky hands) rclxub.gif

Zendrive clone review

Hi this is my first time actually doing pedal reviews. I don't know if this is allowed but I jsut wanted to share a few opinions on a pedal that i got just yesterday... ZENDRIVE CLONE BY member DT89!!

Okay to be honest when i first got the OD and looper from him just now I was actually really SURPRISED by its lightness. Why? Cuz its made of PLASTIC!! But the plastic itself seems quite durable so... Alrite I actually had some doubts bout its quality when this came in my mind ;P

Anyways I decided to pop them in to run tests right away. Borrowed my sis's SX bass amp to test, and i use my own Starsun e.g to play of course. I'll be using my fav OD so far, the MOEN Deep Blue(got from -mike-) to do A/B comparison:

Before that: Why I liked de Moen, 1)Its OD is VERY VERY warm, and super creamy. 2 Gain Knob push past 12 o'clock, u can hear certain harmonics singing out when ur note slowly fades(Dunno if thats what u call rich harmonics). Best suited for warm blues solo. But a few things that did not live up to my expectations or rather, what I would have wanted:1) tone not transparent enough, especially when playing open chords and picking them. 2) Even with the tone knob cranked up max, It still sounded midrangey(but maybe thats how its warmness came about), and the gain knob is very gainy(sounded already in slight OD/boosted mode even at min settings, drive increase until past 1/2 o'clock then it begins to saturate and add more cream & harmonics.( I thought it would have get more drive) 3) the clean up did not do very well when vol. on guitar is rolled off the clean sounded lacked high and some punch(but still retained its warmth)

And now comes the Zendrive clone. I've seen some vids and reviews online so i kinda get the idea of how a Zen would sound like. The rave bout Zendrive is their ability to nail the Dumble sound, but I've nvr heard how its actually like(In fact, I bought this clone jz out of curiosity and GAS for something "boutique" XD) so I have no idea how it would ACTUALLY SOUND LIKE. Its a no brainer, consists of 4 knobs: Volume, Gain, Tone, Voicing nice warm blue LED too.
Verdict after testing: When I first kick in the Zen at 12'clock on all settings I'm quite pleased with the punch it has. Pretty transaprent pedal i must say, notes ring out clearly even in open chords, gain is dry and smooth(slightly brighter than the Moen). One thing that confuses me is the Voicing knob did more tonal changes than the Tone knob(perhaps its misplaced or something? But it did not matter. Some features that i'm still trying to get used to on this pedal are: 1) gain know on min is clean mode(boost if u crank up volume on pedal), past 8 o'clock then it starts to slowly add drive. 2) Its slightly harsher than my Moen, and did not sustain as long as it. Harmonics are even more pronounced in the Moen(Maybe because i tried not to play too loud as to disturb my family sleeping, somemore on a crappy amp. 3) Tone controls: Havn't found my optimum settings yet as i only played it for bout an hr.1st time actually using an OD wid voicing control.

Later on I on both my OD togather and HOLLA!! I got a THICK saturated drive which is very smooth, warm, creamy, yet wid more pronounced high compared to just my Moen alone, and it sings!! Sustain is smoother than I thought. Jz found an OD sound that I really like... Dunno how to compare it with the guitar hero's tone but i guess u can nail Santana, SRV, Slash and some others pretty easily. Not really planning to add de Zen on my pedalboard anytime soon but well it might someday. Now i have an idea on what I want to mod on my Moen to achieve the sound I want.

BTW some pics I took while opening up the pedal. I'm no electronics person, but i can say thats a pretty neat job. Thx DT.
