Hi all, need your view. Currently looking to upgrade my desktop, was leaning to an amd built but the current ryzen 5 3600 is rather pricy with the added cheap graphics card.

Q1 which graphic card is a good match for the ryzen 5 3600 for non-gaming purpose?
Q2 with the ryzen 5 3600 + entry graphic cards the price is more than intel core i5 10600 and touching core i7 10700. is the intel a better choice?

Keyboards Options

Hi guys, I am thinking of getting a keyboard to pickup my music skills again (electone player long time ago, electone nowadays are ridiculously priced ) and wondering which one is a good one to start off with. I do not intend to spend too much on this <RM3k and have search the web to see what is available. I am just getting the keyboard for own enjoyment, so i want a user friendly/easy to learn but expandable as i progress. what would you guys recommend? should i just get an entry yamaha psr-e423 or something higher like psr-550b or casio wk7500? any other options?

i have a super old technics kn1200 from my cousin but there is no manual and last check a few keys are spoil, will it be better off fixing this and use this instead? getting it fixed would be another issue as technics is no longer in biz.

thanks in advance.

Upgrade or replace?

Hi guys, just want some opinion. my current rig is running on c2d e7200 with 8gig ddr2 ram. i use it mainly for photo edit, surf and media stuff. no gaming on it. lately the mobo is giving me a lot of problems where sometimes some of my hard drive goes missing or windows will not boot. i have tested with multiple hard disk and can conclude it's not hard disk problem.

the question now is:
Option 1: Replacement the mobo. i check most 775 mobo are on ddr3 and are micro atx with very minimal features (like no usb3)
Option 2: Get a updated system with Core i3 2100 or AMD phenom x4-955 with 4gig ddr3 ram. the problem is i will end up with my c2d e7220 and 8gig ddr2 wasted. should i go with core i3 2100 or go for the amd x4-955?

Ops edit: just wanna find out is a8 performance as good as the i3 or x4-955?

what do you guys think? spend double to get an updated system or soldier on with new low end mobo?

THANKS!

Trying to decide.......which one?

Hi guys, been reading through lots of topics here for pass couple of weeks but i am still undecided. perhaps you guys can give some view.

i am looking for a new tv mainly for movies (using hdmi media player) & gaming (ps3 & xbox). this set will not be connected to astro b'yond. i have a dedicated room for the setup about 13ft x 15ft and will be running the video feed and sound via avr.

i have narrow the choice to pana 50" v series, sony 46" ex400 or toshiba 47" zv.

the toshiba i understand is hard to find as it is at end of product life but it is cheaper than the pana and sony. the sony is in between with free bluray player and cashback at the moment but it is an entry level and screen is smallest. the pana - love pic and colour but concern about IR (when gaming), floating black and rising black. seriously how bad is it?

the room i have will not have reflection problem so plasma is ok for me. should i just push my budget up and go for >50" lcd tv? other than the above model any other you guys recommend for <5.5k? which samsung/LG should i check out?

thanks for any feedback

Tubular Skylight

Hi guys,

I am looking for a solution for one of my house toilet. it is situated in the center of the house and there is no windows to let in light, only air ventilation vents. I seemed to find a solution from Wesflo Marketing in their tubular skylight and wonder if anyone have any comments on them and also their product. the tubular skylight system seems to be very popular overseas but i have not seen any here. is there alternative brand/seller in klang valley to consider? are there any issue with tubular skylight?

here is an explanation on tubular skylight http://www.nltubular.com/product_info/how-it-works.html

THANKS!!!

Kaspersky 2010 - Question On Application Settings

Hi, I have been using kaspersky for the pass 2 yrs and so far pretty happy with it until i updated to KIS2010.

Previously i can set the application internet access in the firewall setting where can actually see the list of programs under trusted and selectively allow or disallow internet access. But in the new KIS2010 the feature is gone and all i get is a general settings for trusted programs. I want to customise like what i did in KIS2009, anyone can guide me?

Eg for itunes, in KIS2009 i can see itunes listed in the firewall setting and i can proceed to select block for internet access, how do i do this in the new KIS2010?

Argh i can't understand why they change this ....... Thanks in advance .

Hmm saw the adver in the star couple of week back I understand it would be launched this weekend. 28x86 rm750k, 28x96 rm880k and 28x126 rm1m+ all intermediate units. it is opposite proton service center at glenmarie, facing some small factory + industrial. i went and had a look at the units which should be ready for hand over in 6-12mths. is it worth investing? it is shah alam but access is not bad. hmmm

Which AV Receiver To Get?

Hello. Would love to hear your thoughts on my current setup. i am looking at my HT setup and am thinking to change my amp due to the lack of video inputs (the connections in my HT is driving me nuts. so many wires and too messy

My current setup is a modest budget system. Marantz SR4400, upscale LG dvd, HTPC, PS3 & x-box360, entry wharfedale front & sub & center with two rear speakers in my living room. they are all currently connected direct to my lcd tv and optically to the amp. I am thinking of getting the new AV amp so that all my components are connected via HDMI (except the PC) and then a clean line to the lcd. HDMI upscaling is impt and HD audio is for future proof.

I have kinda narrow down my choice to the onkyo tx-rs507 or yamaha rx-v565. will this actually be worth the change or shall i go for other brand or move higher up? i do not want to spend a lot on my HT system, just something that is decent. my budget is preferably something below rm2k. the system will cater mainly for movies, games and some music. i have not gone into blu-ray movies for now so HD sound is more for the future as it is a pain to change amps etc.

what are the prices like for the onkyo tx-rs507 and yamaha rx-v565 and any recommended shops that give the best prices and can try out? i am in KL/PJ area.

thank you in advance

Compaq/Acer/Asus? Confuse

Hi - looking for some advise.

I am looking for a budget entry laptop. minimum gaming but will be using photoshop, surf, msoffice etc

models i have looked at with free dos are:
compaq - amd turion v3828au or
acer - 4715z core duo or
asus x80L

all have them have similar specs except the compaq which is cheaper due to amd cpu. i intend to upgrade the ram to 2gb. the asus have 2yr warranty and if i get the compaq/acer i intend to add the warranty to 3yrs. i have seen some threads here on compaq and acer having problems etc. which one is better or should i consider something else or should i increase my budget by a few hundred more? i have looked at dell but cheapest 1420 is 2099 with freedos with same spec and extended warranty seems to be very expensive

thanks in advance and sorry if i sound noob cos i am on notebooks

Hi, getting myself a hifi subwoofer ... was recommended to use special subwoofer cables but rather expensive. i have Google around and most sites are saying can use normal single rca cables for short runs and if need to run longer can use simple coaxial cables - what do you guys recommend?

New TV For My Modest HT - Pls Advise

hi sifus - need some advise. i'm planning to get a new tv this week end. i read up a bit on hdtv etc and looked at this tread. i am considering either lg 32lc2r or toshiba 32wl66e lcd tv or sony kv-db34m61 or samsung slimfit cs-32z30he

Q1 the wide screen size for the 32in lcd and 34in crt tv is almost same. while the 34in will look much bigger for 4:3 pix like astro - that's why i'm pondering if the lcd is a better choice from old fashion crt. will the lcd display superior for dvd playback using my current dvd (a normal pioneer dvd)?
Q2 if i upgrade my dvd to one that can do upscaling will the lcd tv pix quality superior to the crt?
Q3 i see alot of posting on the internet about geometry problem with slimfit crt tv especially from samsung - is this still a problem with the newer model like the one i short listed?
Q4 extended warranty is it essential? both the lg and toshiba only offer 1yr warranty and the shop i check is giving a very good deal but do not offer extended warranty.
Q5 the lg i checked do not support 1080p - is this an issue as some post above mentioned 720p is good enough.

i know front projector would be another option but i am not considering as it's too complicated to be used by whole family .

this tv will be pair up with my current HT setup and i plan to get the samsung dvd upscale dvd player with hdmi to complete the setup until the price of 40+in lcd/plasma drops.

thanks!

hi ice-sifus,

i need some recommendation for adding a sub and amp to my current setup. my budget is <1k if possible and i prefer quality sound (i know - that one need more $$$ but that's my budget for now)

current setup in my 2004 honda city
alpine hu
alpine budget component front speakers
oem rear speakers (i keep this off)
i'm ok with the sound quality but the sysyem lacks bass. i understand i can get better sound by adding a 4 channel amp (2 channel for front comp and 2 for rear sub).

i have asked around 1/2 shops and they norm recommend me amps/subs that i have not heard of and are very expensive.

i also seen sub/amp offerred by branded co like sony/pioneer/kenwood that's much cheaper.
