Gesa Myanmar kembalikan akses internet Rakhine

The rakyat overwhelmingly voted for a Pakatan Harapan government in the last general election.

Therefore, to deliver the people’s mandate, we need to stop this immature quarreling of questioning each other’s principles and loyalties the soonest in order to formulate a pragmatic solution to save Malaysia from Kleptocracy 2.0

DAP’s commitment to Anwar and Tun Mahathir our ally

Let me begin by reiterating that DAP unconditionally supports Anwar Ibrahim to become the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Ever since Anwar was first sent to prison, DAP has always stood firm with him. We mustn’t forget that it was the late Karpal Singh who represented Anwar during his first sodomy trial.

Karpal’s wholehearted support for Anwar came at a cost to his freedom as he was detained under the Sedition Act in 2000. Even after new allegations against Anwar arose in 2008, once again it was Karpal Singh and the DAP who unconditionally supported the PKR leader.

The late Karpal Singh with Anwar Ibrahim
We have supported Anwar during his darkest days, and will continue to support him during his brightest, even after some of his closest allies inside his parties have deserted him. Despite that, there are some who not only question but accuse DAP of abandoning him.

Attacking the DAP and even Tun Mahathir does not achieve anything productive. It only creates an unnecessary stumbling block that stunts our progress towards finding a pragmatic solution to save Malaysia from Kleptocracy 2.0.

We must remember that it was with Tun Mahathir as our PM candidate who helped Pakatan Harapan garner the numbers to win the federal government back in 2018. Now, we must realise that it is with Tun Mahathir as Prime Minister and Anwar as his deputy that we can deliver the government that Malaysia voted for.

DAP has publicly backed this combination because it is apparent that it is the only viable way PH can gain back the federal government to deliver the people’s mandate. Further, DAP has pledged to ensure the implementation of mechanisms to ensure that Anwar will be handed the Prime Ministership in six months from the time we regain the federal government.

This will not only help rid Malaysia of the very same kleptocratic government that was voted out in 2018 but also ensure stability and certainty in a time when the world is beset by the socio-economic crisis created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Focusing on the bigger picture

There is a famous and overused sporting cliché; we have to take it one game at a time.

Ever since PH ascended to the Federal Government in 2018, we have been blinded by the issue of “transition of power” to the extent that it ultimately cost us power. Unfortunately, even in opposition, this obsession continues to divide us.

The reality is before we start thinking about the cup final, we must first qualify for the cup. In order to qualify, we must have the numbers. Currently, the combination of Tun Mahathir as Prime Minister and Anwar as his deputy appears to be the only viable formula.

The longer we continue to obsess over this issue, the more authoritarian Muhyiddin, Najib and Perikatan Nasional will become as they reverse all our reforms and execute Kleptocracy 2.0. Malaysia is descending by the day and there is no way we can stop it from happening from the opposition benches. As it is, Parliament has already been muffled on the pretext of the Movement Control Order.

Staying in opposition will also cost us our freedoms, as Perikatan Nasional continue to use the levers of State to intimidate us from voicing out against injustice.

Throwing stones from glass houses

The fact is that the breakdown of Pakatan Harapan Government occurred following sizable defections from both Bersatu and PKR.

In the case of the latter, defections continue to occur till this very day. Lubok Antu MP Jugah Muyang became the latest to jump ship as he sided with Perikatan Nasional, leaving Sarawak PKR with only 2 representatives in the Dewan Rakyat.

Besides MPs, PKR assemblypersons continue to defect even in the PH strongholds of Selangor and Penang. Recent high profile examples include former Penang State Exco Afif Bahardin and Selangor Deputy Speaker Dr Daroyah Alwi.

Yes, these representatives have betrayed the people’s trust in them. But at the same time it is no use to dwell on those who have left.

Rather it is more important to focus on how we can all come together to return the people’s mandate and prioritise our nation’s well-being. This cannot be achieved if those in glass houses continue to throw stones by accusing and questioning the loyalties of their allies.

Aimran Sarhan Abdullah,
Political Secretary to Zairil Khir Johari, State Assemblyperson for Tanjong Bunga.

==================================

The question buzzing in most minds in the past one week is why DAP and Amanah have abandoned Anwar Ibrahim in favour of Mahathir Mohamad.

They are wrong.

DAP and Amanah had never abandoned Anwar in favour of Mahathir as it is the surest way for Anwar to become Prime Minister.

We must not be prisoner of the past or the historic decision of May 9, 2018 bringing about a peaceful and democratic change of government would not have taken place.

We must not be opportunistic either and never sacrifice our basic principles for institution reform and democratic change.

Mistakes have been made in the 22 months of Pakatan Harapan government and we must not repeat these mistakes if we succeed in restoring the mandate of the voters in the 14th General Election.

With the question of the Prime Minister settled with regard to the transition of Mahathir as the ninth Prime Minister to Anwar as the tenth Prime Minister in six months’ time, a coalition system of decision-making with regard to major appointments and mode of Cabinet governance would have to be agreed upon.

But we must realistic. Even with all these factors in place, there is no guarantee of success to restore the mandate of the voters in the 14th General Election.

As stated by the DAP Secretary-General and the Amanah President in a joint statement yesterday, and evidenced by the meeting of the Pakatan Harapan secretariat and the joint statement of the principal leaders of the three parties, Pakatan Harapan will continue as a united political movement to unite all like-minded political forces in the country to save Malaysia to effect institutional reforms and democratic change in the country.

(Media Statement by DAP MP for Iskandar Puteri Lim Kit Siang on Tuesday, 23rd June 2020)

We cannot let people die at sea or punish them for leaving their homes to seek refuge on our soils.

At the same time, we must act firmly and put pressure on governments that have failed to protect their own people and forced them to flee. Let us not forget our principles, about helping those in need. Everyone of us can make a difference. Every action counts.

-

ANWAR IBRAHIM

and increase in safety net tax credits for people who are out of work by £1,000 a year, to help more than four million vulnerable households across the country, in a package worth £7 billion.

DAP Member of Parliament and former Deputy Minister for International Trade and Industry, Dr. Ong Kian Meng has listed ten examples of Malaysian SMEs crying for help.

I call on the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, to stop procrastination in announcing an economic rescue package focussing on the SMEs.

The Prime Minister should use the opportunity of the new package to be more sensitive of the crisis the MCO has created to vulnerable groups, especially those who become unemployed when they stay at home.

The Covid-19 pandemic is not just a health crisis – it is an existential economic crisis and policy makers must adjust their approach on a daily basis as the increasing severity of the health pandemic and damage to the economy unfolds.

The Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said on Saturday that help for SMEs is on the way.

Tengku Zafrul and other policy-makers in government should be motivated by the “Act Fast and Do Whatever It Takes” spirit to address the economic problems created by the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is why Malaysia must learn from the best practices – both public health and economic – of other countries in combating the invisible global war of the Covid-19 pandemic, so that Malaysia can avoid the nightmares of other countries.

We should not be in the position like Italy, Spain and France, let alone United Kingdom and United States where Covid-19 pandemic is raging on and yet to reach their peak.

In Spain, there is relief in the country that its death toll in the past 24 hours had only risen by 674 to 12,418 because it is recorded the lowest number of fatalities in in nine days!

In Italy, the lowest daily COVID-19 death toll of 525 deaths for more than two weeks was registered on Sunday allowing the Italian authorities to start looking ahead to a second phase of the battle against the new coronavirus once the lock-down imposed almost a month ago is eventually eased.

Italy, Spain and France may have reached a plateau in their Covid-19 epidemiological curves, which would begin to descend, although this is subject to confirmation in the next few days.

But the situation in the United Kingdom and the United States are quite different, as the Covid-19 pandemic is raging with exponential growth in these two countries.

On the one hand, the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson had been admitted to hospital for tests, ten days after testing positive for Covid-19 and on the other, the United States Surgeon General Jerome Adam had warned that next week was going to be the “Pearl Harbour” moment – “the hardest moment for many Americans in their entire lives”.

In the Pearl Harbour attacks, 2,403 Americans died. So far almost four times that many lives have been lost to the virus – with the total death toll in the United States standing on 9,557, which increased by 1,106 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Malaysia must act fast and do “whatever it takes” to first win the war against Covid-19 and subsequently to win the war to restore the devastated economy, but we must follow developments of the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide as the global economy is also devastated.

The global total of Covid-19 cases have reached 1,272,737 cases while the global total of Covid-19 deaths have reached 69,491 cases.

Data for the top 12 countries with most number of Covid-19 cases (which also contain the 12 top countries for Covid-19 deaths) and Malaysia are as follows:

United States: 334,232 cases; 9,557 deaths (2.86%)
Spain: 131,646 cases; 12,641 deaths (9.6%)
Italy: 128,948 cases; 15,887 deaths (12.3%)
Germany: 100,123 cases; 1,584 deaths (1.58%)
France: 92,839 cases; 8,078 deaths (8.7%)
China: 81,669 cases; 3,329 deaths (4.07%)
Iran: 58,226 cases; 3,603 deaths (6.2%)
UK: 47,806 cases; 4,934 deaths (10.3%)
Turkey: 27,069 cases; 574 deaths (2.1%)
Switzerland: 21,100 cases; 715 deaths (3.4%)
Belgium: 19,691 cases; 1,447 deaths (7.35%)
Netherlands: 17,851 cases; 1,766 deaths (9.9%)
Malaysia: 3,662 cases; 51 deaths (1.66%)

The government must always bear in mind the lesson of South Korea’s success in the war against Covid-19.

As the South Korean Foreign Minister, Kang Kyung-wha has explained it, vitally important is that the government must be open and secure the trust of the people.

As Kang had explained:

“The key to our success has been absolute transparency with the public – sharing every detail of how this virus is evolving, how it is spreading and what the government is doing about it, warts and all.”

Muhyiddin should explain why the government is holding back from holding an emergency meeting of Parliament, even a virtual one, to debate the Covid-16 pandemic.

(Media Statement by DAP MP for Iskandar Puteri Lim Kit Siang on Monday, 6th April 2020)

This entry was posted on Monday, 6 April 2020, 9:48 am and is filed under COVID-19, Economics.
More tests ahead for Muhyiddin
ANALYSIS
Sunday, 05 Apr 2020
By Joceline Tan

TAN Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) is known as a no-drama politician and he passed his first month as Prime Minister without much drama.

In fact, by most accounts, he has done quite well given that he came in amid a health pandemic as well as accusations of leading a backdoor government.

Muhyiddin has been a steady pair of hands in tackling the Covid-19 crisis and his government’s stimulus package was well-received by the common folk despite rumblings from the business sector.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

“This is an unprecedented crisis but he has managed to hold the fort,” said former Perak mentri besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.

His coalition of strange bedfellows also seem to be holding together and informed sources say Cabinet meetings go on much more smoothly than in the previous administration.

But there were a few embarrassing and amusing slip-ups such as the “Doraemon advisory” for those working from home and a minister donning a hazmat suit during a cleaning-up campaign.

“They should not bring the nonsense from the last government into this government,” said Penang Umno politician Azizi Safar.

Muhyiddin has also shown a Machiavellian touch in the way he formed his Cabinet.

He took religion out of the purview of PAS leaders and he gave the Umno ministers portfolios that more or less loosened their control over the Malay base. Portfolios that were directly connected to the Malay grassroots went to his own party leaders.

“You are looking at a political animal who has survived numerous ups and downs,” said a Putrajaya official.

The Covid-19 crisis has been a bane and boon for Muhyiddin. It is a tough test for his government but it has also given him some breathing space to stabilise his Perikatan Nasional coalition.

It is no secret that his team is working on the numbers, that is, a headcount of MPs, in preparation for his next big political test when Parliament sits on May 18.

There has been no official confirmation of how many MPs Muhyiddin has on his side, although the speculation is that he has the support of 114 MPs. The May sitting will provide the first concrete evidence of the strength of his coalition.

Once the numbers are confirmed, Muhyiddin will have the “passport” to go on until he decides to call for a general election.

The Opposition’s threat of a motion of no confidence in Parliament has also passed.

A no confidence motion implies an intention towards a snap election and lawyer Lee Chin Cheh said that nobody, including the Opposition side, wants to go in that direction for now.

The fact that the Prime Minister and his team has steered clear of playing the blame game has also been a welcome change.

“This is about health and saving lives. You are not going to win support playing politics,” said Dr Zambry who is also Pangkor assemblyman.

The Perikatan government has turned out more stable than expected. Some joked it is because the coalition partners have a common dislike of the DAP and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The actual reason is that the Malays feel comfortable with the government. You can see that on social media and when you go around,” said Dr Zambry.

No government of the day can hope to be stable without the support of Malays who make up 60% of the population.

Muhyiddin’s government, which includes Bersatu, Umno and PAS, commands the support of some 85% of the Malays.

For instance, the Malay social media went into overdrive when Muhyiddin, whose father was a religious teacher, recited a doa or prayer in Arabic in his recent TV telecast.

Apparently, it was the first time a Prime Minister had prayed this way on TV.

The fact that his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman wears a tudung – the first time the wife of a prime minister has done so – was also a big deal for the community.

Muhyiddin has not stepped on any landmines. But his biggest challenge will be the economy which is heading into a recession and job losses.

He has shown resolve in tackling the Covid-19 crisis and he is more than adept in juggling the politics surrounding his government.

“The next big test will be to steer the country through the economic hard times,” said Dr Zambry.

In the meantime, there is the Mahathir factor to overcome.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has eased off on his political attacks. The statesman and the doctor in him has seen him rally to support the movement control order.

But efforts to reconcile the two Bersatu big guns have failed and the informed opinion is that Dr Mahathir is waiting for an opportune time to strike.

Dr Mahathir has won the Bersatu chairman’s post unopposed and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir is challenging Muhyiddin for the presidency in party elections due after June.

Muhyiddin has been treading carefully around the elder man. He has not touched Dr Mahathir’s home state of Kedah which is still under Pakatan Harapan even though the numbers have shifted.

There is no pressure for Mukhriz to vacate the Kedah Mentri Besar’s post and there was even talk that Muhyiddin had offered Mukhriz the deputy prime minister’s post earlier on.

Muhyiddin does not want to give Dr Mahathir more reason to get upset, he wants Dr Mahathir on his side.

Muhyiddin has done well in his first month but more tests to his leadership lie ahead.

The views expressed here are entirely the writer’s own.

sos conspiracy mamak

tldr
Muhyidin is known for no drama politikus, pass the month without much drama.
Mahathir says opposition lacks votes to oust Malaysian leader Muhyiddin Yassin

KUALA LUMPUR (BLOOMBERG) - Former Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohamad warned that the opposition coalition may lack the support needed to remove the current government while criticising his long-time rival, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, for the collapse of his administration.

The Pakatan Harapan alliance, which was ousted from power last month, now had the backing of about 108 lawmakers, from 114 the morning before Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin was inaugurated, Tun Dr Mahathir said in a Bloomberg Television interview with Haslinda Amin. Earlier he had called for an immediate confidence vote once Parliament reconvenes, which is now scheduled for May 18.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

"We don't have the majority in Parliament," Dr Mahathir, 94, said in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (March 16). "I don't think a vote of no confidence will resolve the problem."

Dr Mahathir abruptly resigned last month amid bickering within the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, leading to the collapse of the reformist government less than two years after a stunning election win against a bloc that had ruled Malaysia for about six decades.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin, who has long served at his side, emerged as the new premier, backed by a bloc including key political parties that lost power in 2018 - a move Dr Mahathir called a betrayal.

Hours before Mr Muhyiddin's inauguration, Dr Mahathir called for a confidence vote in Parliament and disputed the new premier's claim that he had the backing of a majority of lawmakers. Dr Mahathir has since tempered his calls, going so far as to tell a local newspaper that he expects the current government to last until Malaysia's next election.

Dr Mahathir's own loyalty to PH has been questioned after his exit from the alliance before joining forces to stop Mr Muhyiddin from securing enough support from lawmakers. While Mr Anwar told reporters last week that Dr Mahathir is no long a member of the opposition coalition, the former prime minister disputed that in the interview.

Get exclusive insights of Asia from our network of correspondents
Keep up with the latest in the region with the ST Asian Insider newsletter, delivered to your inbox every weekday

Meanwhile, the Bersatu party he founded also remains split between the government and the opposition, with a few lawmakers pledging to back him even though Mr Muhyiddin still holds the party presidency.

Dr Mahathir's government collapsed in part due to tensions over whether he would honour a promise made during the 2018 election campaign to hand power to Mr Anwar, who has long waited to take power.

"He has always been campaigning to get me to resign earlier," Dr Mahathir said of Mr Anwar. "His boys even say nasty things about me. You know some of them are quite violent in their choice of words."

Dr Mahathir is Malaysia's longest-serving leader, having served as prime minister for about a quarter-century in two stints.

sos jeng jeng jeng

tldr
Yada yada yada others old news
New details DrM confirms Anwar push for DrM resignation.
Anwars goons even say nasty things about DrM and in a violent way.
How dare they treat orang tua like this!
Looks like Anwar and his goons have contribute to PH fall after all.
