Christian activists said the inquiry was also linked to Mr Gu's open opposition to the crackdown on Christian activity.
The Zhejiang Daily newspaper reported that Bao had been fined more than $15,000 (£10,800) and the court had also ordered another $92,000 confiscated.
The authorities have justified the tearing down of crosses by saying they break planning rules.
But many believe officials want to limit Christianity across the south-eastern province, where the religion has a strong following. Zhejiang is home to many churches, particularly in the city of Wenzhou.
Bao and his wife were detained last August and charged with embezzlement shortly afterwards.

France cracks down on Uber service after protests

France's interior minister has ordered a ban on the low-cost car-sharing service UberPOP after a day of nationwide protests by taxi drivers.
Bernard Cazeneuve said the service was "illegal" and ordered police and prosecutors to enforce its closure.
His announcement followed a day of sometimes violent protests by French taxi drivers, who say the US-based firm Uber is stealing their livelihoods.
US rock singer Courtney Cobain was caught up in the unrest.
She tweeted her frustration, saying her taxi had been ambushed as she left the airport.
The musician shared an image of the window of her car spattered with egg, and thanking two motorcyclists she said rescued her.
Key highways around Paris were blocked and tyres were burned during the day-long strike. Barriers also appeared around Marseille and Aix-en-Provence in southeast France.
Some cars were overturned and others had their windows smashed with bats.

France's taxi drivers - who have to pay thousands of euros for a licence - say they are being unfairly undercut by UberPOP.
"Many taxis drivers are infuriated," Abdelkader Morghad, a representative of the FTI taxi union, told Bloomberg.
He said a law that forbids unlicensed drivers to carry paying passengers should be implemented.
France's licensed drivers have lost between 30% and 40% of their income over two years because of the growth of UberPOP, Mr Morghad said.
UberPOP is a car-sharing service offered by Uber, which brings together customers and private drivers at prices lower than those charged by both traditional taxi firms and even other Uber services.
It has been illegal in France since January, but the law has proved difficult to enforce and the service continues to operate, AFP news agency reports.
Mr Cazeneuve said on Thursday that he had ordered police in Paris to issue a decree banning UberPOP and said any cars defying the order would be seized.
Uber spokesman Thomas Meister said the firm had contested the law under which UberPOP has been ruled illegal, and accused the interior minister of overriding the normal legal process.
"The way things work in a state of law is that it's for the justice to judge whether something is legal or illegal," he was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying.

The nationwide protests saw violence in Marseille as well as Paris
San Francisco-based Uber says it has a million users in France, including 250,000 for UberPOP. Uber also operates a luxury service which is not banned.
Uber has faced similar teething problems in cities all over the world, with traditional taxi drivers protesting against being undercut by the unlicensed company.
But licensed taxi drivers have been criticised for being slow to adopt the app-based geolocation technology behind Uber's success.

Z8501 The captain of the AirAsia jet that crashed into the sea in December was out of his seat conducting an unorthodox procedure when his co-pilot apparently lost control, and by the time he returned it was too late to save the plane, two people familiar with the investigation said.

Details emerging of the final moments of flight QZ8501 are likely to focus attention partly on maintenance, procedures and training, though Indonesian officials have stressed publicly that it is too early to draw any firm conclusions.

The Airbus A320 jet plunged into the Java Sea while en route from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore on Dec 28, killing all 162 people on board.

It had been suffering maintenance faults with a key flight control computer for over a week, and one person familiar with the matter said the captain had flown on the same plane with the intermittently faulty device just days before the crash.

AirAsia has said that it would not comment, while the matter was under investigation by the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC).

Reuters reported this week that maintenance problems on the Flight Augmentation Computer (FAC) and the way the pilots reacted to them, were at the heart of the investigation.

After trying to reset this device, pilots pulled a circuit-breaker to cut its power, Bloomberg News reported yesterday.

People familiar with the matter told Reuters it was the Indonesian captain Iriyanto who took this step, rather than his less experienced French co-pilot Remy Plesel, who was flying the
plane.

The outage would not directly upset the aircraft, but would remove flight envelope protection - which prevents a pilot from taking a plane beyond its safety limits - leaving the junior pilot to fly the jet manually in delicate high-altitude conditions.

The decision to cut off the FAC has surprised people following the investigation because the usual procedure for resetting it is to press a button on the overhead panel.

"You can reset the FAC, but to cut all power to it is very unusual," said one A320 pilot, who declined to be identified.

"You don't pull the circuit breaker unless it was an absolute emergency. I don't know if there was one in this case, but it is very unusual."

'Unusual decision'

It is also significant because to pull the circuit breaker, the captain had to rise from his seat.

The circuit breakers are on a wall panel immediately behind the co-pilot and hard or impossible to reach from the seated position on the left side, where the captain sits, according to two experienced pilots and published diagrams of the cockpit.

Shortly afterwards, the junior pilot pulled the plane into a sharp climb from which investigators have said it stalled or lost lift.

"It appears he was surprised or startled by this," said a person familiar with the investigation, referring to the decision to cut power to the affected computer.

The captain eventually resumed control, but a person familiar with the matter said he was not in a position to intervene immediately to recover the aircraft from its upset.

Data already published on the plane's trajectory suggest it may have been difficult for someone to move around the cockpit in an upward-tilting and by then possibly unstable aircraft, but there is no confirmation so far of the cockpit movements.

"The co-pilot pulled the plane up, and by the time the captain regained the controls it was too late," one of the people familiar with the investigation said.

Indonesia NTSC chief Tatang Kurniadi told Reuters there had been no delay in the captain resuming control, but declined further comment.

Airbus has also declined to comment on the matter.

Lawyers for the family of the French co-pilot say they have filed a lawsuit against AirAsia in Paris for "endangering the lives of others" by flying the route without official authorisation on that day. Investigators have said the accident was not related to the permit issue.

AirAsia did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the lawsuit.

Although more is becoming known about the chain of events, people familiar with the investigation warned against making assumptions on the accident's cause, which needed more analysis.

Safety experts say air crashes are most often caused by a chain of events, each of which is necessary, but not sufficient to explain the underlying causes of the accident.

Takata CEO apologizes to shareholders

TOKYO (Reuters) -- Takata Corp. CEO Shigehisa Takada today apologized to shareholders about the company's growing liabilities for its role in an industrywide airbag recall, but said the company was still tallying the costs of the recall, according to those who attended the closed-door session.

The Japanese airbag supplier could face a $500 million charge and a net loss this year -- its second in three years -- as the widening recall of airbag inflators begins to raise worries despite its deep pockets.

Takada addressed the company's shareholders today at their annual meeting.

Automakers have recalled 10.5 million vehicles over five years to fix Takata air bags deemed at risk of exploding and shooting shrapnel at drivers and passengers, in what has become one of the five biggest recalls in automotive history. At least two deaths are alleged to have been caused by faulty air bags.

Creditors are not overly worried about the financial health of Takata, which has about $1 billion of cash on its books, but are closely watching the company, banking sources said.

The world's second-biggest auto safety parts maker faced questions from shareholders about potential losses and recall-related costs as well as its sluggish share performance at the shareholders' meeting, which came just days after the latest recall of 5.2 million vehicles.

Takata's shares have fallen nearly 30 percent since the start of the year compared with a 6 percent drop in Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei average. They closed down 0.7 percent at 2,163 yen today.

"We shareholders have been proud of Takata and how its Japanese technology has been protecting people globally, so it was shocking to learn that people have died," said Shinji Sakagami, 45, a high school teacher who owns 300 Takata shares.

"I don't think I'll keep the stock much longer."

Expanding recall

Honda Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. were among four Japanese car makers joining this month's global recall over potentially flawed Takata air bag inflators made between 2000 and 2002.

Several analysts said they were assuming a cost of around $90 to $100 per recalled vehicle, based on replacement part prices, labor costs and other factors.

That could mean a charge of around $500 million for the year to next March in connection with this month's recalls, pushing Takata into a net loss for the year.

The company has forecast a 16 billion yen ($157 million) profit for the year to March 2015, after returning to the black last year from a record 21.1 billion yen net loss in the year to March 2013.

Last year, shortly after car makers recalled 4 million vehicles worldwide over potentially exploding passenger-side airbags, Takata took a $300 million charge, equivalent to a cost-per-vehicle of about $75.

The cost of the latest recall could escalate if a safety investigation in the United States finds evidence that driving in high humidity increases the risk of air bag explosions, as officials have indicated is possible.

Seven car makers said this week they were recalling more vehicles in the high-humidity regions of Puerto Rico, Florida, Hawaii and the Virgin Islands in the United States at the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to replace Takata air bag inflators.

Honda is also recalling affected vehicles in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Texas. Some safety experts said other automakers could expand recalls to those states as well.

NHTSA, when asked whether a national recall was necessary for the issue, said in a statement its probe was still underway and it would "take appropriate action based on our findings."

GM recall

Separately, General Motors Co. on Wednesday said it is preparing to recall about 33,000 Chevrolet Cruze sedans from model years 2013 and 2014 in North America with potentially defective Takata air bags that could fail to inflate.

The recalls could have a long-term impact on Takata's air bag business, said Koji Endo, an analyst at Advanced Research.

"There is the worry that the volume of transactions with vehicle makers could decline because of the recall," he said.

But he added: "The company has long had strength in design and development ... From the perspective of multiple parts sourcing as well, it would be hard to imagine large volumes shifting to other suppliers in the short term."

Car pick-up service Uber has been banned across Germany.

A court in Frankfurt ruled that the firm lacked the necessary legal permits to operate under German law.

It has emerged that the firm was told last week that its "low-cost" UberPop service could no longer take passengers and faced a fine if it continued.

But an Uber spokesman said it had decided not to suspend the service, adding that the ban was not enforceable while an appeal process was ongoing.

"Germany is one of the fastest growing markets for Uber in Europe," he said.

"We will continue to operate in Germany and will appeal the recent lawsuit filed by Taxi Deutschland in Frankfurt.

"You cannot put the brakes on progress. Uber will continue its operations and will offer UberPop ridesharing services via its app throughout Germany."

A check of the firm's software confirms that drivers continue to offer UberPop pick-ups in Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf.

UberPop was launched earlier this year and involves drivers - who are not directly employed by the company - over the age of 21 using their own cars to transport passengers.

The body described its rival as a "form of locust share-economy" indulging in "anarchy capitalism" that could leave passengers exposed in the case of an accident.

"In Germany there's insurance that applies to private drivers," explained spokeswoman Anja Floetenmeyer.

"But if your insurer learns that you are driving for an app and you want to make money on that, they say this is a multiple risk and refuse to [pay] insurance on that.

"Uber doesn't care because security costs money. We don't believe it has the interests of [German] drivers and citizens at heart."

But Uber's spokesman in Germany, Fabien Nestmann, has previously blogged that safety is one of his firm's key concerns, adding that "all the rides - and thus all travellers - are insured by Uber".

European protests
The summary judgment follows a decision by London's transport authorities not to pursue a case against Uber in June this year.

The San Francisco-based firm allows passengers to summon cars using an app on their smartphones and calculates the fare en route. It is often significantly cheaper than rival taxi companies.
