Masters of Engineering Science (nanomaterials)

Hi there,

I'm a year 4 undergraduate student majoring in Materials Engineering. I was offered by my lecturer to do my Masters continuing my research in Nanomaterials. He plans to apply for funding for me and this means that I will be doing my Masters for free and get paid at the same time as a Research Assistant. My interest has always been in the R&D field, and I intend to work in the R&D department when I am out in the industry in the future.

However I have a few concerns here:

1) I am definitely going to lose around 2 years of valuable working experience if I do my masters. Is getting a Masters degree worth this 2 years of time?

2) My field is in nanomaterials, which is quite new in Malaysia. Not many companies are doing this. So with a Masters degree in nanomaterials research, will i actually only restrict my job prospect? I heard from some that your area of research doesn't really matter. The company is actually looking for your skills in conducting a research. How true is that?

3) How far will this Masters Degree get me? Will I be more advantageous when it comes to future promotion opportunity in my company?

Would really really appreciate it if you can give me some opinions on this matter. Thanks so much!!

[addedon]September 30, 2012, 11:14 am[/addedon]Anyone anyone? =S

Prospect of Nanotechnology in Malaysia

Good day folks!

I am currently an undergraduate student majoring in Materials Engineering. I am thinking to pursue my field under Nanotechnology / Nanomaterials since I have interest in it, and I intend to further my studies in this field.

However, my concern is, will I be able to get a job in R&D field after I finish my Masters Degree in nanomaterials research? What other opportunities arise for me?

Would really appreciate your opinions here. Thank you!

How to get from Setapak to NIOSH, Bangi

Hi there,

I will be having a 3 days training at NIOSH (National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health) located at Bangi.

I do not possess my own transportation. Therefore my only modes of reaching there is via LRT / KTM / Taxi.

I stay in Taman Melati, Setapak. So, what's the fastest & cheapest alternatives to NIOSH bangi? I googled around but to no avail. Would appreciate any help

Thanks in advance!

Rejection and Persistance

Well, last week, I confessed to a girl, and as usual, I failed... (she's my 5th consecutive failure).. in order words, I am 20, and have been single for 20 years...

She wasn't mean to me, she said that I'm a nice guy, and that I could find a better girl that loves me. She said she admires me, but doesn't have the kind of "feeling" on me. She even asked me not to waste time on her. I told her I wouldn't give up so easily, but in return, she said she will make me give up..

She has very low confidence on love, as bad things have happened to her before. I wanted to be the guy to regain her confidence on love. Now, it seems like I don't have the honour of doing so anymore. She's a very outgoing person, and maybe that's the reason I felt that she had feeling for me, thus confessing to her..

I feel really awful and lost now, I don't know what should I do now. I love her alot, should I just do what she wanted, and give up on her?

The next morning, I woke up at 8.00am. At the very moment I opened my eyes, my heart feels pain, the first thought that came into my mind - the girl that I love has just rejected me... and I might not have the chance forever to be with her. So, I closed my eyes again, and got back to sleep, wishing I wouldn't have to wake up anymore to endure the pain.

Give up? I don't know....

Thanks for reading, have a nice day ahead =)
