In the last five weeks, the suits were filed against Ace Computer Ware, E Cytech Dot Com, Equiflux Tech Sdn Bhd, Flaming IT Solution, PC3 Retail Sdn Bhd, Jasa Quad ICT Sdn Bhd, K Zone Technology, Magnetone Mediaworld, Royale Technology and Vision Base Enterprise.

Microsoft also announced that just recently, it had won another lawsuit filed in 2008 with the Kuala Lumpur Intellectual Property High Court granting permanent injunction against D-Fusion Tech Sdn Bhd on October 19, 2010. D-Fusion Tech was ordered to surrender all infringing copies or unauthorised reproductions of all Microsoft copyright works.

Discs of counterfeit and genuine Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
(Left: Counterfeit, Right: Genuine)

“The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism is pleased to see Microsoft taking strong action by filing civil lawsuits to protect consumers from the risk of piracy,” said Mohd Roslan Mahayuddin, Director-General of the Enforcement Division of the Ministry.

Microsoft’s campaign in Malaysia will focus on educating and protecting consumers from software piracy, supporting the Malaysian government’s anti-piracy efforts, and lending their support to retailers who deal in genuine software.

Since the launch of ‘Gerak Gempur Cetak Rompak’ (GCCR) in May earlier this year, the enforcement division has undertaken 34 raids nationwide, which resulted in the seizure of 212 computers and 800 copies of pirated software.

In a survey conducted by Microsoft of over 38,000 participants in 20 countries, one in three consumers agree that it is not safe to use pirated software, 80% have concerns about using pirated software and 70% believe that genuine software is more secure. Data lost and identity theft are among some of their top concerns, which prompted overwhelming support for the government and industry to take action against counterfeiters.

source: http://www.hardwarezone.com.my/news/view.php?id=17674&cid=12
