Climbing Mount Kinabalu the "wrong way"

Croatian national Mauro Persic, 46, was rescued in September 2026 after spending days injured and stranded on Mount Kinabalu following an unsanctioned climb.

Persic scaled the mountain via an unofficial eastern village trail without a valid permit.

He suffered a fall, sustaining rib fractures, hand cuts, and leg and heel injuries.

The Search: A massive 5-to-8-day search-and-rescue (SAR) operation involving around 40 to 43 personnel—including the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), STORM, MOCSAR, rangers, and local porters

His Story;

KINABALU, BORNEO

Day 1 - Into Unknown

Starting along Mesilau river and going upstream as far as it gets. From satellite maps this appeared to me the easiest approach to the mountain without bushwacking.
Eventually the river became a stream dripping between two angled slabs making it too slippery and difficult to move along and at this point I've turned up and right at a steep slope that was covered with grass and shrubs.
The progress was very slow from this point onwards.
Firstly I had to figure out by trial and error what vegetation have stable enough roots that I can use to pull myself up. Then some bushes were so thick that I have to break twig by twig to make a hole to go through.

Very labourious task and the night is closing in. With me somewhere on the very steep slope of the mountain I was starting to wonder how I'm going to spend the night here.

Then, as by a sudden twist of faith appears a small cave.

It was just small enought to stretch the sleeping bag, although leaning dangerously towards the mountain slope. Caved in for the night, been visited by a little mouse, watched electric thunderstorms in the distance and slept quite well actually.

Day 2 - East Ridge

Last sip of water that's left and then carry on climbing uphill on even higher gradient slope, mostly clutching on shrubs or grass.
The effort increasingly higher, vegetation thicker and every so often I have to change direction because I have a vertical wall ahead that I can't climb.
This is all going by the ear and general direction of where the east ridge might be. The problem is that I don't know if this will lead anywhere or I'll just materialise in front of a granite wall.

I have now pretty much reached a point of no return, it will be very hard to climb down from where I was and I have to push up.

Around midday I finally reached some sort of secondary ridge that gave me visuals which wasn't what I've hoped for.
Very thick vegetation of stunted trees followed by a block of granite peak which appears no to be the ridge at all.

At this point I've decided to skirt the mountain from the right side in hope I'll find another way up.

After the mossy forest stretch, there appeared a gully, fairly manageable. Up for some hard hours and I was at the eastern ridge at 3pm. Tired, scratched all over the place, dehydrated and happy.

The mist just started to lift and two unnamed peaks appeared.

On my right, cylinder like giant and on my left, perfect small pyramid and in the background stunning East ridge peaks.

In front of me, vast valley covered in prime jungle.

Interesting that here at 3700m altitude there is not a dash of wind, perfect calmness with bees buzzing around stunted shrubs.

After soaking up the views, downhill the north slope I went to find the water. Soon I've reached a stream that turned into combination of mossy woods and stone.

There was also a manmade camping spot right by the stream. Immediately I've started a small camp fire and fell asleep under the stars.

Day 3 - Running in Circles

Woke up energised and refreshed, rearing for a new adventure ahead.

Another clear dry day, the weather was absolutely graceful so far. I've started in westward direction following some sort of animal paths and soon I was on a flat plateau with trees, the only easy part of the terrain there will be.

It lasted some 500m and it was great to move at a pace. Soon I have reached a clearing with cliff face to my left. I've tried a few different routes around the cliff but all ended with more shear drop.

At this point I just wanted to drop down to the valley, so I decided to go a little northeast and try a very wide gulley that looked promising at the start. Giant boulders covered with grey dry lichen dominated the scenery.

Further down, gully narrowed, becoming stepper and covered with thick green vegetation. At the same time mist filled the air and visibility was none.

There was a difficult down climb ahead and I wasn't sure if it's worth taking it as I couldn't see further beyond. I decided to go for it since I have already descend so far.

It was a slippery slab on a steep angle with a few meters drop into the gully.

I was clutching for some grass but my foot slipped and I tumbled to the bottom of the gully in no time.

Calf muscle was hit hard and in pain but I could still move at the front of my feet.

After a little rest I've proceeded further to see if the route is viable but it turned out it's an abyss drop. At this point my mission objective was to get down from the mountain as quick and as easy as possible.

Which turned out not to be an easy task at all.

Plan is to back track to the flat plateau and then skirt mountain in easterly direction and at the same time loosing slowly altitude.

At the plateau, with peripheral vision I've noticed an animal of a sort and shortly such an animalistic high pitch shriek that gave me instant goosebumps and shivers.

It was repeated a few more times.

The closes I could describe it is a diabolic primate screech.

One more reason to vacate the mountain asap. I've continued with my plan and ended coming to the same stream I've used previous day, just further downstream from the campsite.

Proceeded down for a while on hard slimy, slippery rock and overgrown mossy forest, just to arrive to a high cascade drop. It's getting late already, my hopes are crushed today many times, my foot hurts and I've decided to call it a day.

Back to the campsite where I've started, raise the spirits with cozy campfire, take a rest and come up with something new tomorrow morning.

Day 4 - Mysterious Animal

Mornings always bring new hopes and possibly to start again from fresh. Warmed up with the morning sun, having a porridge and coffee, I've came up with the idea to follow the east ridge towards plateau.

In hindsight this doesn't sound so great an idea at all.

Started moving diagonally, up and towards the east plateau, terrain rough and very rough, using animal paths whenever possible. The navigation is entirely visual, maps have no use here.

Eventually I've reached a high point which beams views over north and east ridges as well as valley below them. Luckily at this point it was still clear and visuals were perfect.

The views are magnificent, Mt Tambukuyon in the distance, entire north ridge stretching ahead and eastern ridge comprising of low slope ridge line culminating with King Edward Peak.

Further to the left chunky granite peaks and pinnacles. Northern slope of the east ridge doesn't look so demanding from the distance and I'm already devising possible routes up.

After consulting photos from the day two and current vista, I've decided that only way out is down to the valley and up the northern slope to the east plateau.

What I can see ahead of me are very thick and prickly bushes and a bit lower level plateau and what seems like a drop after that. Worrying prospects. To add one more level to the drama, it's around midday and mist is covering the mountain.

Unwillingly I dive into the thorny bushes and buchwack to the plateau.

There is a way down to the left and I proceed in blind faith (literally) that it will bring me down to the valley.

A few hard moves further down and I'm at the vista location at the time mist lifts for the bit.

I can now see the valley bottom in from of me and my spirits are elevated again. It turns out it wasn't that simple and involved a couple of short absails on the rope but finally I'm down where I wanted to be.

There I saw it for the first time.

It looks like a huge wild goat but I've been told it's some sort of a dear and then this shriek from hell again.

I proceed now further downstream and then at the first left side stream up.

Gorging, bouldering and slipping for a few hours in the mist, eventually I have to stop and camp at a makeshift patch of ground as I don't know where I am and where I'm headed in no visibility.

A little rain started to drop, first since the journey beginning.

Day 5 - Disaster

The day is clear in the morning as it's usual here.

Using maps, photos and visuals I locate myself and realised that I have gone a little far to the left but still in good time to correct the course without big sacrifices.

Last half ratio of food to be had in the morning and I start day's journey by following goat/dear paths in hope they are leading somewhere rather than just a jolly view from the cliff.

Soon I'm on the track, have a great visuals and make fast progress up the northern slope towards east plateau.

Pretty much followed the route I've planned the day earlier. It's mostly enjoying scramble and easy navigation in good weather. On my left are number of massive granite peaks and spires on of which looks like a giant turtle.

After reaching the ridge I proceed to King George Peak, the only one I'll climb.

I don't want to disturb souls of the dead.

The view is beautiful from here, western plateau spires and peaks raising from Lows gully, northern ridge, King Edward Peak, Red Rock, Lions Head.

Again, 4000m altitude and not a breeze of wind, as quiet as it gets.

I don't stay too long as I want to use this little visibility that's still left of the day. Moving quickly over the plateau downhill next to King Edward Peak and down the gully soon became obvious that this only leads to sudden death.

Back up around Red Rock and down another gully that I hope will be the one. The mist is down now and visibility is zilch.

The gully is quite difficult, I've made it down a few cascades but I have to stop because I can't see if it leads anywhere viable.
After quite a while the mist lifts a bit, I observe around and spot a step ladders fixed to the mountain, next to the gully for I'm in but to the left side.

At least I know what and where now. Somewhat excited that I've finally found the way I've started backtracking gully.

I pay less attention, I want to get back on the track fast.

I'm on a seriously sloping slab covered with dry lichen, grip is bad, lost the grip I'm hand, foot slips next, momentum takes over and I'm tumbling 10m down to the gully.

This is the bad one.

I'm hyperventilating, blood is gushing from everywhere, have to lay for a bit and calm down.

Under this shock I still think it might be alright, it will pass and I'll be able to proceed without hassling rescue but soon enough it's evident that I'm not going anywhere on my own.

Assessing the damage: right heel badly swollen, numb and bleeding profusely; big hole in the right calf side, bleeding profusely; left hip side hurts on slight move, couple of left ribbs hurt, right shoulder is killing me, gash on my head that I don't even want to check, scratched and bruised all over the place.

Good news, nothing feels fractured. Maybe?

I want to call the emergency but there is no signal.

Moving around in that little space there is and I catch a weak signal.

Dial, report the issues, share coordinates and hope they'll get me out of here.
It was bound to happen.
I was playing russian rulet, with mountain being a revolver and gullies bullets, took too many shots and got what I've deserved.

Entire night I've spent shivering hunched under the tent sheet.

Day 6 - On the Rock

Tried to call emergency again to see the rescue is on its way but failed to make contact due to the poor signal.

Eventually I've received messages from rescue members, shared location etc in hope they'll reach me before the night.

No food but water is dripping from the stream. Night is closing in and it's becoming clear that I'll spend another night here.

The place is very restricted, with stream dripping and a small ledge where I perched myself in squatting position and covered with tent fabric.

I'm entirely wet and miserable of course, my heel is bleeding. Flies started buzzing around attracted by blood and next thing I know little maggots started appearing on my wound.

This is getting very concerning now. I washed the wound best I can and applied antiseptic.

Day 7 - The Flood

I've made the first visual contact with rescue team just before midday.

How happy I was to see humans after all this time.

By late afternoon they started descending to the gully after setting up rope system.

The mist was already down long time ago and the rain started sipping too. Rain increased from drizzle to modest downpour, not for long, perhaps 20-30min.

The gully is filling with water more and more, then suddenly water started flushing down.

My sleeping bag is gone in a split second and I quickly pull all other gear to a narrow ledge where water still hasn't reached.

I then wedge my leg between two boulders and desperately trying to find a crack in the rock where I can secure climbing nut and clip myself.

No such luck.

I've only managed to hook loosely a sling over a small rock projection.

The next two hours I was pulling on this sling for dear life. Perhaps from the shock, I was getting so tired and sleepy that I just had a sudden urge to let go, it appeared suddenly so easy just to let go but somehow I've managed to bring myself to senses every time.

This must have been the closest to physical death I've ever been. After the water subdued, I've returned back to gully, everything was soaking wet and I just hunched down covered myself with wet tent sheet.

This entire night I've got hallucinations that I'm somewhere safe and just need to get out walk to the shops buy some food and what not.

Number of times I got up from under the cover and kinda started to walk away, just to find there's nowhere to walk to, again and again.

Day 8 - Salvation

Luis Jai Matuas my rescue hero reached me in the morning. First human in 8 days.

What a joy and relief.

He brought me hot drink and biscuits and I was in heaven again. He offered to cook some food but I just wanted to be out from there, so the rescue operation started.

It was very hard terrain and they used stretcher and rope haul to get me out to the plateau.

It took all day and great effort from the entire team.

Once on the plateau (I think under Red Rock) another rescue team joined and they started campfire and hot food etc.

I was parked in the stretcher, overwhelmed completely over the top. Everyone were so kind giving me chocolate, snacks, fags and taking care of me. I was touched. Then dressed my heel wound and gave me noodles in a tin can.

Possibly the best meal of my life.

The high spirits carried on around camp fire for a while, everyone laughing and joking and giving me treats.

After a while we called it a day and went to sleep. When all of a sudden some commotion started and another rescue crew is joining us and bring more food.

Now we have a second celebration, laughs, jokes...And there on the east plateau, guarded by Kinabalu peaks, under the bright starry sky at 4000m,
sayat sayat campfire in high spirited rescue camp I've realised that this is entirely another level to enjoy great wilderness and in a group of extraordinary strangers I've never felt more alive.

That night will stay with me forever. My mission was not only completed but it's been upgraded to another stratosphere.

Day 9 -

Still long way from home, we have to pass treacherous and technical Bowen's route just to reach tourist trail.

Modest effort for able body, gargantuan task for my shattered bones. After a hearty breakfast we set off.

Rescue team organisation and technical skills were absolutely stunning.

They had a few separate teams who will prepare the ropes and secure steeper sections by the time I'd reach the location. Everything was going so smoothly that only now I realised how much effort has gone into it's organisation and training.

We reached the tourist trail in afternoon and from then on it was planned to piggyback me down to the road access.

We did two turns of that but I was so humiliated by it that I've decided I'll rather walk slowly on my own.

I was on my last fumes by the time we reached Laban Rata and the pain was excruciating with every step.

There was no other but to let myself be piggybacked by others. It was incredibly embarrassing and humiliating but it tought me that I have to let people help me too and be vulnerable.

One of the porters was so young, perhaps 15 yrs, I could feel each impact of his legs and knees, it broke my heart that I'm contributing to this.

Turned out that this is very much a regular practice, lazy and unable turist are hiring piggyback downhill.

I let you judge on this.

Finally at Timpohon gate, fire quad, police, ambulance and my gear were ready waiting.

I find it incredible how was all this arranged without mistake.

Huge respect. Lastly and possibly most dangerous thing experienced in the past days, ambulance ride to Ranau.

The driver was determined to hit every single pothole in the road and even to speed up when he hit one.

I was literally bouncing off bed and had to ask doctor to tie me to bed.

The story goes on but this is plenty already.

Last gratitude from my heart to Bombas who I owe my life. You are all my brothers from another mothers.

Was it all worth it? I don't know. Probably not.

Broken body.

40 people risking their lives to save one.

But still, I've seen the very best of humanity showing up these days; generosity, kindness and care.

Police chief Issa Shahin have urged residents to stay home and avoid outside agitators planning a controversial "Christian Crusader March" and demonstration.

Police Chief Issa Shahin was elected by Abdullah Hammoud, who has been serving as the city's seventh mayor since January 2022.

Elected in November 2021, he took office as the first Arab-American, first Lebanese-American, and first Muslim mayor in Dearborn's history.

Activist Jake Lange is promising a pig roast over burning Qurans outside of the Dearborn City Council meeting Tuesday.

Other activists are planning a march as well. Thousand of motorcycle bikers are reported heading to Dearborn from Sturgis ( the world largest bike gathering)

Right-wing activist and provocateur Jake Lang was physically attacked and chased during a demonstration in Dearborn, Michigan,

after using a bullhorn to shout anti-immigrant rhetoric near an Arbaeen community march.

Videos showed him being punched from behind and pelted with objects before taking cover in a police cruiser.

Incident Details

The Confrontation: Lang demonstrated with a bullhorn near a Shia Muslim religious procession on Greenfield Road, triggering a physical altercation where individuals struck him and threw stones.

Suspect in attack on controversial activist Jake Lang is an illegal immigrant who served 15 years for murder

How inmates who refused inhumane conditions were beaten, framed for riot

KINIGUIDE | When 107 inmates awaiting High Court proceedings were moved from the Batu Gajah Correctional Centre to Taiping Prison on Jan 16, 2025, little did they know they would be beaten, stomped, and walked on by prison officers.

Though dubbed a prison riot, CCTV evidence reviewed by the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) found that the only physical violence was perpetrated by prison guards - not the inmates.

Malaysiakini unpacks the 261-page Suhakam report and details what exactly happened.

What happened before the ‘riot’?

The inmates were transferred to Taiping Prison due to overcrowding at the Batu Gajah Correctional Centre.

Upon arrival at the prison, a shouting match erupted between some inmates and one of the prison guards after they were barred from bringing personal items such as clothes for security reasons.

The detainees were placed in Hall B overnight for further security checks and measures.

The plan was to house the detainees in Block E - a place they did not want to go.

What was wrong with Block E?

Simply put, Block E was not fit for human use.

The only toilets were buckets; it was unsafe, dirty, and deemed unlivable, as testified by witnesses during investigations. When it rained, water would enter the cells.

The block had been closed since 2021 after the Public Works Department found it unsafe to occupy without major repairs.

On the day the 107 were supposed to be moved, Jan 17, the detainees held four discussions with the prison officers, including the prison’s deputy director, Shahrul Izzat Hami, pleading to remain at Block B or be moved to the remand block instead.

Their request was denied.

How did the ‘riot’ start?

At 4pm on Jan 17, the inmates - who had been chatting, resting, and sleeping - were given one minute to get ready and leave for Block E.

After one minute, a group of about 58 prison guards stormed in - many clad in armour and wielding shields, batons, and pepper spray.

Another 65 were lined up outside Block B.

After the guards swarmed in, the inmates were instructed to sit on the floor cross-legged with their hands on their heads.

Before entry, the guards were instructed by Shahrul to only use force if the inmates acted violently.

However, those instructions were not followed.

CCTV footage showed a group of guards shoving an inmate at the back of the hall, while another officer was recorded kicking another inmate who was already lined up.

This triggered an uproar from the inmates.

Then one by one, they were dragged out from Hall B and shoved, hit by batons, and kicked in the back as they made their way to Block E. Only a few were spared from violence, according to Suhakam’s notes on the CCTV footage.

Several of those waiting in line on the floor were also hit on the head with batons, while others were pepper-sprayed by guards.

One of those who was beaten repeatedly was Gan Chin Eng, 61, who would die not long after.

The attacks occurred while Shahrul watched.

Suhakam noted that throughout the transfer and attacks, the CCTV did not record any instance of inmates retaliating or acting violently towards the guards.

Did Gan receive medical treatment?

Gan received severely delayed and negligent medical attention.

After being beaten and kicked by guards, he was seen wheezing and in a weakened state during the transfer to Block E.

Inside Block E, he collapsed on the floor. While fellow inmates tried to help and fan him, at least seven guards nearby ignored his condition.

Only after persistent pleas from detainees did a sergeant order that Gan be carried to the main gate on a stretcher.

At the gate, a medical officer attached to the prison examined him and found he had unstable oxygen levels.

While the doctor claimed Gan was transported to a hospital within five to eight minutes of arriving at the gate, CCTV footage showed the injured inmate was left waiting for over 30-40 minutes.

During this delay, the Suhakam report noted that the doctor left Gan unsupervised to meet Taiping Prison director Nazri Mohamad in the canteen.

Gan was eventually transported in a prison van that lacked medical equipment and was not accompanied by any medical staff.

He was pronounced dead at Taiping Hospital shortly after arrival, following 15-20 minutes of unsuccessful CPR.

In his referral letter to the hospital, the doctor reportedly wrote that Gan’s injuries were due to an “alleged fall in the toilet” based on the testimony of two other inmates.

However, both inmates categorically denied ever making such a claim.

What happened to the rest?

Following the incident, 24 detainees were isolated in Block C (the isolation block) while the remainder were moved into the dilapidated Block E.

On the night of the incident, the prison’s two medical officers visited the inmates and cleaned the wounds of those seriously injured. However, they were only given gauze bandages, and no wounds were stitched, even for those with head injuries.

Stitching was only carried out the next day, with one inmate receiving stitches three days after the incident.

Medical examinations days and weeks later found that detainees suffered serious injuries, including fractured ribs and burst eardrums.

Some of the injured were only sent to a hospital for further treatment after complaining during court proceedings.

Meanwhile, the prison management initially intended to take disciplinary action against the 24 who were isolated, claiming they had started a riot.

In the days following the transfer, the prison management withheld necessities and hygiene supplies, including soap, toothbrushes, mattresses, blankets, and slippers.

Detainees were forced to wear blood-stained clothes for two weeks and were only permitted to bathe using water from a dirty basin that was usually reserved for cleaning toilet buckets. They were not permitted to use a bigger basin that was meant for bathing.

Furthermore, the management blocked family visits and telephone access, which prevented them from informing outsiders about what happened.

However, Nazri claimed that visits and phone access were being prioritised for Chinese inmates because of the Chinese New Year.

How did this get framed as a prison riot?

Suhakam’s public inquiry panel found the framing of the incident as a “riot” was a deliberate narrative created by prison management as an “afterthought” to cover up guard brutality.

The commission also accused Shahrul of instructing one of the guards to lodge a false police report about the incident.

In the report, the guard claimed that the inmates had acted aggressively and attacked guards, forcing them to retaliate.

Meanwhile, Suhakam asserted that claims by guards that an inmate had issued a rape threat against one of their wives were a lie that they concocted together.

The commission said that to support this narrative, medical records were also manipulated by the prison doctors with notes such as “post provocation riot” and “hostile inmate started riot”.

What action was taken?

Despite an internal investigation by the Prisons Department confirming SOP violations and guard violence, no disciplinary action was taken against the officers involved.

Officials cited a “double jeopardy” policy, claiming administrative action could not proceed while a police investigation was ongoing - a justification the inquiry panel found legally flawed.

Instead, the department executed administrative transfers, moving the director to a state office and six other officers to the Kamunting Correctional Centre.

The police investigation, which initially focused only on Gan’s death under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, was criticised for being non-comprehensive regarding the other assaults.

Eventually, one officer was charged under Section 304(b) for culpable homicide related to Gan’s death.

The Home Ministry, in a written Parliament reply on June 23, 2026, said the ministry and the Prisons Department were taking follow-up action on Suhakam’s recommendations.

One action included the gradual abolition of the toilet bucket system.

The inquiry panel issued several urgent recommendations to prevent future tragedies:

For the police to conduct a separate, transparent investigation into the guard violence and the filing of false reports, leading to immediate prosecutions.

For Taiping Prison to be decommissioned as a detention facility due to its hazardous condition and status as a heritage site, with a new prison built elsewhere.

For the “toilet bucket system” to be immediately abolished and replaced with modern sanitation to uphold prisoner dignity.

For authorities to address prison overcrowding and reduce the long remand periods that contribute to institutional tension.

For prison medical staff to be placed under the direct supervision of the Health Ministry to eliminate “dual loyalty” and ensure independent care.

For Malaysia to ratify the UN Convention Against Torture and enact specific anti-torture laws to criminalise all forms of cruel or degrading treatment.

For the government to strengthen Suhakam’s statutory powers to allow unrestricted, unannounced access to all places of detention.

Orang bilang Musa sponsor parti-parti kecil untuk pecah undi lawan Warisan.
Tapi sebenarnya… yang lebih menakutkan lagi.

Hello kawan-kawan.

Dalam sejarah terdekat di Kuala Lumpur - Pas terlibat dengan demonstrasi dan protes jalanan yang kecohkan keadaan.

Saya rujuk protes reformasi tahun 2000an.

Orang Pas naik bas dari entah mana dan berkerumun di Kuala Lumpur untuk kecohkan ibukota.

Sebab pada masa itu mereka suka sangat menyokong jaguh kaum Nabi Lut.

Itulah dasar bumiputra juga - sejak zaman Mahazalim, Mahafiraun dan Mahakaya.

Cuma saya nak tanya sikit lah.

Population negara kita 34 juta orang.
Melayu about 17 million plus kut.
(Belum kira bumiputra Sabah dan Sarawak - dulu Hadi kata depa jenis pakai cawat).

Anyway daripada 34 juta atau 17 juta atau daripada yang pakai cawat itu agaknya berapa ramaikah tuan-tuan yang boleh dapat AP impot kereta?

Maksudnya baki 34 juta penduduk negara atau baki 17 juta orang Melayu akan terpaksa bayar RM95,000 untuk beli kereta Toyota yang harga sebenarnya kurang lebih RM46,000 sahaja di pasaran dunia.

Itulah maksudnya our national policies must not be interfered with.

Sekarang kereta nasional sudah tidak ada lagi.

Kereta nasional dulu hampir bungkus.

Terpaksa dijual sahamnya dengan harga besi karat kepada syarikat negeri China.

China yang control.

CEO dia orang dari negeri China.

Kereta No 2 pula kepunyaan Jepun - bukan kepunyaan kita pun. Di mana pula 'kereta nasional"?

Habis apa gunanya kekalkan dasar ekonomi bebal AP?

Jawapannya simple: untuk jaga kekayaan kaum elit Mahakaya.

Tuan-tuan orang Melayu, latest ini kontroversi lesen perlombongan (mining license).

Sekali lagi dalam population 34 juta orang Malaysia atau population 17 juta orang Melayu berapa ramai kah tuan-tuan boleh dapat lesen lombong di Pahang, Kelantan atau Sarawak bagi satu kawasan lombong tiga kali saiz Kuala Lumpur?

Jadi kepada penganjur 26hb Julai, lets say you are successful dan korang dapat naikkan calon baru will you abolish the Sedition Act? Please answer yes or no? Answer now.

Bagaimana dengan MCMC Act yang lagi bodoh itu? Libel laws (Defamation Act) semuanya perlu digubal semula. Will you change these laws or not? Cakap terang-terang sekarang juga.

Lesen monopoli, monopoli beras, oligopoli banking, sistem ekonomi AP, sistem kroni dapat lesen lombong semuanya mesti dihapuskan. Apakah awak akan hapuskan semua dasar-dasar gagal daripada zaman Mahazalim. Mahafiraun dan Mahakaya ini?

FAM, what happened to the World Cup tickets?

Football is the world’s most popular sport with billions of followers around the world and cricket is a poor second because of the large following in the Indian subcontinent and Commonwealth countries.

Whenever big tournaments are held, legions of followers and supporters from around the world descend to the venues to watch their favourite stars in action.

As demand always outstrips supply, organisers and governing bodies make efforts to ensure that the fans, even from the smallest and remotest countries get a chance at the tickets instead of paying large sums of money to scalpers.

The governing body for football, Fifa, allocates tickets to all its 211 affiliates for the World Cup, the last of which was held in Qatar two years ago.

These tickets are meant for sale to fans in their respective countries and the quantity varies depending on various factors, including if that country qualifies for the final rounds.

Malaysia was one of the recipients of tickets but local fans never saw any of these tickets.

Instead, they had bought them online or from friends in other countries who had bigger allocations or even on the lucrative black market.

Malaysia was allocated a minimum of 250 tickets but England, which had qualified, got a bigger allocation.

A Malaysian fan who had heard about this sent messages to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) requesting tickets but received no reply.

How the tickets allocated to the FAM meant for fans were distributed remains a mystery and no one wants to clarify.

For the past three months, I have been trying to get the FAM to explain how and to whom the tickets were sold.

It was a simple query to the FAM secretary Noor Azman Rahman: “I understand that it is a practice and policy of Fifa to allocate World Cup tickets to all its 211 affiliates and that includes the FAM.

“In this context, I would like to know how many tickets were allocated to FAM for the 2022 tournament in Qatar and if the tickets were made available to Malaysian football fans.

“If they were, I asked in a rejoinder, how was it carried out? Was there a public announcement, etc?”

Questions went unanswered

Despite several messages and reminders, Azman has not been forthcoming and has gone into silent mode despite initially saying he would respond.

The first message was on Jan 28 and the immediate response was: “Sure I will prepare the reply.”

Malaysiakini has also reached out to FAM for comment but has yet to receive a response.

Why the fuss about a minimum of 250 tickets? It goes down to the core of integrity and honesty of those holding positions in sports governing bodies in every country.

In the book “Foul!”, renowned investigative journalist (the late) Andrew Jennings outlined how football officials were lining their pockets by re-selling the allocated tickets to selected travel agents.

In 2015, in what was then described as the biggest sports scandal, Swiss authorities arrested a string of officials on corruption charges in Zurich and opened criminal proceedings over the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

The Swiss authorities seized “electronic data and documents” in a raid on Fifa headquarters. Bank documents had earlier been collected from various Swiss financial institutions.

Arrests were made on behalf of US authorities, after an FBI investigation that had been underway for at least three years. The US Department of Justice charged 14 people including nine current or former Fifa executives.

Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini, the respective presidents of Fifa and UEFA, were hit with suspensions after a recommendation from world football's ethics committee. Also suspended was former Fifa vice-president Chung Mong-joon.

Subsequent investigations resulted in the indictment of several officials - the most prominent of them being Jack Warner - who was president of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) and a Fifa executive committee member.

Warner was said to have taken all tickets allocated to Concacaf and passed them to his son, who sold World Cup travel packages from the Caribbean.

Warner fought extradition but his two sons, who held dual citizenship were arrested in the US and entered a plea-bargaining arrangement and spilled the beans.

How are these events connected with FAM and local football?

Despite its enormous wealth, FAM is partly funded by the public. As recently as January, it received RM5 million as a grant from the government.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who announced the grant said “based on the request by the youth and sports minister, the government has agreed to add RM5 million to the FAM to manage the national football team.”

I am not in the least suggesting any wrongdoing by the FAM or its officials but there is this onerous duty to account for all their actions or inaction.

Neither am I suggesting an operation a la Warner, whereby the tickets ended up with a travel agent or a crony to be part of tour packages.

After all, the FAM is not a family business where details are made available to selected members.

It is a public body entrusted with governing football in the country and it is the organisation’s duty and responsibility to at least explain the mystery of the missing tickets.

In the governance of sports, transparency has become important, and it is the most frequently cited principle in good governance codes for national and international sports organisations.

It ought to be used as the main tool for evaluating the governance of sports organisations by the Youth and Sports Ministry and other related bodies.

I am not asking for details of the salaries and allowances paid to FAM officials.

Abrahamic Accords Kick In By Default.

The October 7th attack against Israel by the Hamas / Muslim Brotherhood was an attempt to derail the Abrahamic Accords from being cemented. Saudi Arabia was poised to also announce their joining the Abrahamic Accords.

The Abrahamic Accords would create peace treaties between the Arab countries and Israel (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Morocco aside from Egypt and Jordan).

One of the suggestions of the Abrahamic Accords (it was stated during the presidency of Donald Trump) was that the West Bank would be "returned" to Jordan and the Gaza would be returned to Egypt.

Historically the West Bank was ruled by the Jordanian kings (Emirate of Trans Jordan, Jordan etc). From 1948 until 1967 the West bank belonged fully to Jordan.

Likewise Gaza was ruled by Egypt or Egyptian governors (Ottoman and post Ottoman period). From 1948 until 1967 the Gaza belonged fully to Egypt.

This implies a permanent solution to the 'Palestinian' problem.

The October 7th attack did appear to derail the Abrahamic Accords, or so it seemed.
But now with this missile and drone attack by Iran against Israel the Abrahamic Accords have come into play in full force even though Saudi Arabia and Jordan have not officially signed on yet.

It has now been confirmed that in Saturday's missile attack not only did Jordan completely open its airspace to the airforce's of Israel, US, UK and France but so did Saudi Arabia.

More important than that both the Jordanian and Saudi Arabian airforces sent their own fighter jets to actively pursue and shoot down the Iranian drones and missiles.

For the first time the militaries of Egypt, Jordan, Israel and Saudi Arabia were involved in joint military operations against a common enemy Iran.

This is the new Middle East that is emerging

It is also becoming clear that Saturday's attack by Iran has failed very badly.

Nothing was destroyed in Israel, no one died and unfortunately one seven year old Arab Bedouin girl was injured by debris from an Iranian missile that fell close to her home.

The Iranians did a half hearted job and made serious tactical mistakes.

They first sent up a swarm of about 150 to 200 slow flying drones (maximum speed between 150 - 180 km/hr) which all flew west towards Israel. Flying time was between 6 to 9 hours.

The drones were easily detected by Israeli and American intelligence and warnings were immediately issued to Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the US, UK and France. Middle Eastern and western media were already reporting that Iranian drones were on the way towards Israel.

When the drones crossed over into Iraqi airspace Jordanian, Saudi Arabian and possibly Israeli and US airforce jets were already patrolling the skies and waiting for them. All the drones were shot down over Iraq and Jordan. None of the drones penetrated Israeli airspace.

Likewise all the cruise missiles were also shot down mostly over Jordanian territory. The cruise missiles had a flight time of TWO HOURS between Iran and Israel. Hence they were all easily detected.

The ballistic missiles had a flying time of eight minutes between Iran and Israel. They were also shot down except seven of them which were allowed to fall harmlessly in open areas. The Arrow 2 and 3 missile defense system can detect and determine the trajectory of the ballistic missiles as they fall through the sky. If the terminal point is an open space with no threat of harm to people and buildings the missile is allowed to fall harmlessly.

Debris from one ballistic missile which fell near the home of some Arab Bedouins seriously injured a seven year old Arab girl.

"Amina, from the Bedouin town of Al-Fur'ah in southern Israel, is now in a critical condition after she was hit by shrapnel which fell on the roof of the family home at 2am, the Times of Israel reports. The young girl's brother told Haaretz how she lost consciousness and was unresponsive. Her parents then rushed her by car to Arad, before she was taken to the Soroka Medical Centre in an ambulance".

Despite shooting over 300 missiles and drones the Iranians did manage to harm one seven year old Arab Bedouin child.

On the coronation of my liege, I thought it only fitting to extend a heartfelt invitation to you to commemorate this momentous occasion by visiting your very own kingdom within a kingdom: His Majesty’s Prison Belmarsh.

You will no doubt recall the wise words of a renowned playwright: “The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven upon the place beneath.”

Ah, but what would that bard know of mercy faced with the reckoning at the dawn of your historic reign? After all, one can truly know the measure of a society by how it treats its prisoners, and your kingdom has surely excelled in that regard.

Your Majesty’s Prison Belmarsh is located at the prestigious address of One Western Way, London, just a short foxhunt from the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. How delightful it must be to have such an esteemed establishment bear your name.

It is here that 687 of your loyal subjects are held, supporting the United Kingdom’s record as the nation with the largest prison population in Western Europe. As your noble government has recently declared, your kingdom is currently undergoing “the biggest expansion of prison places in over a century”, with its ambitious projections showing an increase of the prison population from 82,000 to 106,000 within the next four years. Quite the legacy, indeed.

As a political prisoner, held at Your Majesty’s pleasure on behalf of an embarrassed foreign sovereign, I am honoured to reside within the walls of this world class institution. Truly, your kingdom knows no bounds.

During your visit, you will have the opportunity to feast upon the culinary delights prepared for your loyal subjects on a generous budget of two pounds per day. Savour the blended tuna heads and the ubiquitous reconstituted forms that are purportedly made from chicken. And worry not, for unlike lesser institutions such as Alcatraz or San Quentin, there is no communal dining in a mess hall. At Belmarsh, prisoners dine alone in their cells, ensuring the utmost intimacy with their meal.

Beyond the gustatory pleasures, I can assure you that Belmarsh provides ample educational opportunities for your subjects. As Proverbs 22:6 has it: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Observe the shuffling queues at the medicine hatch, where inmates gather their prescriptions, not for daily use, but for the horizon-expanding experience of a “big day out”—all at once.

You will also have the opportunity to pay your respects to my late friend Manoel Santos, a gay man facing deportation to Bolsonaro’s Brazil, who took his own life just eight yards from my cell using a crude rope fashioned from his bedsheets. His exquisite tenor voice now silenced forever.

Venture further into the depths of Belmarsh and you will find the most isolated place within its walls: Healthcare, or “Hellcare” as its inhabitants lovingly call it. Here, you will marvel at sensible rules designed for everyone’s safety, such as the prohibition of chess, whilst permitting the far less dangerous game of checkers.

Deep within Hellcare lies the most gloriously uplifting place in all of Belmarsh, nay, the whole of the United Kingdom: the sublimely named Belmarsh End of Life Suite. Listen closely, and you may hear the prisoners’ cries of “Brother, I’m going to die in here”, a testament to the quality of both life and death within your prison.

But fear not, for there is beauty to be found within these walls. Feast your eyes upon the picturesque crows nesting in the razor wire and the hundreds of hungry rats that call Belmarsh home. And if you come in the spring, you may even catch a glimpse of the ducklings laid by wayward mallards within the prison grounds. But don’t delay, for the ravenous rats ensure their lives are fleeting.

I implore you, King Charles, to visit His Majesty’s Prison Belmarsh, for it is an honour befitting a king. As you embark upon your reign, may you always remember the words of the King James Bible: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy” (Matthew 5:7). And may mercy be the guiding light of your kingdom, both within and without the walls of Belmarsh.
