SEREMBAN: Owners of all types of vehicles, except taxis, will be allowed to bid for personalised registration numbers (NPP) from as early as next year.

Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said the move was to allow them to own unique licence plates and for the authorities to earn additional revenue.

He said owners of motorcycles as well as commercial vehicles such as lorries and buses would be allowed to apply for NPPs as long as they were prepared to pay for the privilege.

“The NPP is one of the new initiatives by the JPJ to members of the public. We will be able to introduce it once our computer system is upgraded and new security features are incorporated,” he said.

JPJ was given RM282mil to upgrade its system as part of the Government Transformation Programme.

The move will, among others, allow Malaysians to renew their licence and road tax online.

Solah said the bidding exercise would be divided into two categories exclusive and non-exclusive.

“A non-exclusive NPP can belong to more than one individual while an exclusive one will only belong to one individual.”

He added that the JPJ had yet to decide the number of characters that would be allowed for both exclusive and non-exclusive NPPs.

The non-exclusive NPPs, he said, would be cheaper and offered via a tender exercise.

“As for exclusive NPPs, the JPJ will determine how much it would cost the bidder.

“The bidder will then have the right for the NPP from numbers 1 to 9999,” he said, adding that the JPJ had yet to finalise the cost for exclusive or non-exclusive NPPs.

The JPJ had previously proposed allowing Malaysians to have NPPs based on their names or personal details as in some developed countries.

Big corporations and private businesses would also be allowed to have such unique numbers which they could use for their fleet of vehicles.

Solah said existing vehicle owners would also be able to apply for the NPPs.

“The individual will have to go through an interchange process where the existing registration number will be transferred to the new vehicle if he intends to use the NPP for his existing vehicle,” he said.

android sucks

i bought htc sensation just to test how android feels (didnt buy sgs2 cause lack of stocks around malaysia, even use orang dalam).
before bashing me i:

1. rooted, installed custom rom, kernel, etc. feels faster but still laggier than my iphong4. battery dried faster too. i even change settings to save most battery.
2. cant do much on my android, sked battery drain. because 30minutes of /k/'ing in starbaks drains more than 30% of my battery while my ipong drained 7%. only can play games while charging. hearing music drains battery, check and reply many email drains, make calls drains. i need to call many people for my job, web conferencing etc... angry birds? ah forget it.
3. i changed to higher capacity battery. well it lasted a bit longer, but ipong still wins. i hardly survived more than 5 hours with my usage.
4. dual core? the dev in xda forum said the phone doesnt utilize dual core at all, i must flash a scripts like a nerd. still doesnt change much.
5. android app market is bunch of bullshizzle apps, sloppy made apps, laggy apps. there are good apps but performance wise, ipong wins. i dun care open sos or closed sos.

it cannot cope with my busy lifestyle.

That is the offer made by Kedah Kita chief Zamil Ibrahim to anyone who can find a person who looks like Opposition leader Anwar.

Datuk T, comprising businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, and former Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim had, on March 21, revealed the existence of a video showing a man resembling Anwar having sex with a woman.

Anwar had lodged a police report claiming that he was not the man in the video and that it was part of a political conspiracy to topple him.

Zamil believes his offer can help throw light on the matter.

“The public are confused. I believe Anwar can finally clear his good name if we can help him find a man who looks like him, walk like him, and even smile like him,'' Zamil said.

Zamil also added that he would invite Eskay, Kita president Datuk Zaid Ibrahim and senator Ezam Moh Noor to sit in a panel to identify Anwar look-a-alike.

“The three of them were very close to Anwar. They can tell who looks exactly like Anwar,'' he said.

Several bloggers had also vouched to run naked around KLCC if a man resembling Anwar could be found.

Two companies to roll out 100mbps internet access next year

KUALA LUMPUR, Monday 25 October 2010 (Bernama) -- Information, Communication and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, said two companies will offer 100Mbps (mega bits per second) Internet access in March next year.

"They are conducting technical testing now," he told reporters at the launch of U Mobile Sdn Bhd's 42Mbps High-Speed Broadband Service here today.

However, he declined to name them.

Rais said the ministry was committed to expand Net connectivity in the country, particularly the villages and new villages, with private sector participants.

He said U Mobile service was capable of delivering online connection speeds of up to 42Mbps, the fastest broadband to date in the country in line with government's agenda to improve broadband access.

"Every year, we see an increase of between one and two million Net users.

"Based on recent studies there are 17 million users in Malaysia or 65% of the total population," he said.

U Mobile chief executive officer, Dr Kaizad Heerjee, said the company would deploy dual-cell HSPA+ (High-Speed Packet Access) connections that allowed the network to send and receive wireless data using two channels simultaneously to achieve download speeds of up to 42Mbps.

"The first set-up point will be in Berjaya Times Square and followed by the commercial deployment of the service within Klang Valley, starting with Subang Jaya and Sunway area as well as Penang and Johor by year-end," he said.

A seaside city in Italy is planning to ban miniskirts and other revealing clothing to improve what the mayor calls standards of public decency.

Castellammare di Stabia is trying to be the latest location in Italy to make use of new powers to crack down on what is deemed to be anti-social behaviour.

Mayor Luigi Bobbio said the regulations would help "restore urban decorum and facilitate better civil co-existence".

Offenders would face fines of between 25 ($35) and 500 euros ($696).

'Right decision'

"Nothing too revealing" is the new policy Mayor Bobbio wants to enforce, says the BBC's Duncan Kennedy in Rome.

That means a tough new dress code which would effectively outlaw everything from miniskirts to low-cut jeans when people walk around Castellammare di Stabia, our correspondent adds.

Mr Bobbio, from the centre-right People of Freedom party, says he wants to target people who are "rowdy, unruly or simply badly behaved".

There will also be a ban on sunbathing, playing football in public places, and blasphemy, if the proposals are approved at a council meeting on Monday.

"I think it's the right decision," a local parish priest, Don Paulo Cecere, told the Cronache di Napoli newspaper. "It's also a way of combating the rise in sexual harassment."

Castellammare di Stabia is latest city to make use of the extra powers handed down by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's government to mayors, in the effort to fight crime and confront anti social behaviour.

In other places they have banned sandcastles, kissing in cars, feeding stray cats, wooden clogs and the use of lawn mowers at weekends.
