Network Adaptor Fried?

My house was struck by lightning just now and my modem was fried. The modem was connected to my PC through a lan cable. Is it possible that my onboard network adaptor is fried as my pc is unable to detect the network adaptor. My motherboard works perfectly fine though. How do I check whether my onboard network adaptor is fried? I'm using asus P8H67-M motherboard.

Dear sifu-sifu sekalian,

I'm looking to build a system and recommendations from all the sifu-sifu here are much appreciated since i dont have any knowledge on the parts and the prices.

- I dont play games... will only use it to surf the net, dl & watch movies & series, listen to music and for work purpose (Ms Office, Excel ....)
- I think i need a reliable system since i dont switch the pc off (leave it running 24/7)
- Budget will be around 1.5k (excluding monitor but recommendations are welcome).. need to factor in the price of the OS (windows) as well

and also the recommended shops to get the items from...

Auto Logoff problem

I just reformatted my pc three days ago and now it keeps logging off automatically during the midnight (probably due to long period of inactivity). The auto logoff closes all the running programs and prompts back at the windows login screen. The pc is currently running on windows xp pro. Did some checking on the settings at the control panel but the problem still persist. Can anyone here help me with this problem? IMO it is due to the windows settings.
