"Penguatkuasaan berkenaan turut dibuat susulan aduan mengenai kegiatan sindiket ulat warga asing serta peningkatan penemuan dadah dan barangan kontraban di lokasi pemeriksaan bagasi.

"Ketika penguatkuasaan itu dijalankan, seorang warga asing yang dipercayai terlibat dalam sindiket ulat ditahan sebelum dibawa ke bilik pemeriksaan bagasi," katanya.

Menurutnya, ketika sesi temu bual terhadap warga asing berkenaan sedang dijalankan, dua individu yang tidak dikenali muncul dan merakam kejadian tersebut.

“Apabila didekati pegawai saya dan dibawa ke hadapan untuk melihat apa yang dirakam, arahan diberikan supaya mereka memadam rakaman tersebut.

“Saya memberikan amaran yang paling tegas, bahawa penguatkuasaan pada ketika itu hanya membabitkan pegawai AKPS, bersama Aviation Security (AVSEC) KLIA sahaja," katanya.

Based on the recent State election results for both Johor and Negeri Sembilan, I believe the BN - PN formula will form the next Federal government and possibly win a clean sweep of all the State elections in the Penisular.

The total combined seats won by BN and PN in 2022 was 104. The magic number to form government is 112. Only 8 additional parliamentary seats needed.

Discounting the political alignment of East Malaysian parties from Sabah and Sarawak, I believe that based on the current trajectory, it is highly likely that BN - PN will easily form the simple majority post GE16.

That would also mean that GPS and GRS will no longer play the role of king maker.

When will GE16 held

Many people predict election will be held by this year but i don't think so, reason being there is 2 upcoming state election for Melaka and Sarawak. Both of the states election need to held on or before November.

These will be tough negotiation and might take some time.

PMX will table budget by October and it will likely approve with the help of GPS, Warisan and some Bebas (quit from Bersatu), that will make up of simple majority of 111. Why GPS agree is to strike a deal with PMX not to held both election concurrently. If budget cannot obtain approval then most likely we will have election on November this year, similar like the situation on GE15 where Ismail Sabri just announce budget and dissolve the parliament.

Any major policy will not implement even until February 2028, government servant will just drag the implementation of any policy because they see PMX is on countdown time.

If PMX still has the luxury of the 1.5 years ahead, i hope he really utilize this time to implement certain good policy.

When will next election held? unlikely it will held on Jan-May 2027, February CNY and beginning of bulan Ramadhan, March hari raya, Mid-May is Hari Raya Haji. I guess the next election will be held after Jun 2027.

Automotive leaders are urging the government to promote greater use of locally sourced auto parts in electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing to protect the country's supply chain against cheap imported EVs.

Suwat Supakandechakul, chairman of the Automotive Industry Club under the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), said common components such as car seats, electrical wiring and windscreens are vital for achieving economies of scale, reducing production costs, and ensuring quality standards.

"The government should promote the use of these parts, and expenses can be tax-deductible," Mr Suwat said.

The FTI believes requiring foreign battery EV makers to purchase locally produced parts would mirror the practices of internal combustion engine manufacturers, thereby safeguarding Thailand's supply chain, he said.

Mr Suwat said this strategy is crucial to maintaining Thailand's status as Southeast Asia's automotive hub.

Another pressing issue is the US concern over transshipment -- products assembled in Thailand with imported components.

Washington could use this practice as grounds to impose higher tariffs on products from Thailand.

The FTI is in talks with a House committee on tariff measures, while simultaneously pushing for tougher local content rules in EV production to safeguard the industry.

Thailand's car manufacturing target for 2026 was set at 1.5 million units, including 950,000 for export.

However, the federation is considering revising this figure due to disruptions to shipping via the Strait of Hormuz caused by war.

Mr Suwat noted cars account for more than 20% of Thailand's exports to this region.

Yuphin Boonsirichan, president of the Thai Automotive Industry Association (TAIA), urged the government to restructure excise taxes on fully imported EVs to shield local producers and suppliers.

She also called for campaigns promoting the purchase of domestically assembled cars, suggesting that expenses could be offset through personal income tax reductions.

In addition, the TAIA recommended government agencies adopt fleets of EVs to stimulate demand growth.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 — The government remains liable for over RM20 billion of 1MDB’s debt if it fails to recover further assets, despite having already paid up to RM40 billion in one of the world's largest embezzlement scandals.

Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong said in Parliament today that the sheer scale of these repayments reflects the magnitude of the crime, noting that the burden has fallen heavily on Malaysian taxpayers.

The total sum misappropriated from the investment fund, established under the Najib administration, was approximately RM51 billion.

As of June 30, 2026, the Malaysian government has paid RM42.5 billion of the fund’s debt and commitments, including principal payments, interest, legal and operational costs, as well as other commitments.

“In addition, the government remains responsible for covering the Government-guaranteed Islamic Medium-Term Note (IMTN) Sukuk amounting to RM8.9 billion,” Liew said during Question Time.

“This sukuk comprises RM5 billion in principal payments and RM3.9 billion in interest, which will mature in 2039. This means that, overall, the 1MDB liabilities that have been and still need to be borne by the government total RM51.4 billion.”

To date, Putrajaya said it has successfully recovered RM31.3 billion in 1MDB-related funds.

“If there are no further fund recoveries in the future, the government will still be forced to bear a remaining balance of RM20.1 billion from the total obligation,” Liew said.

International collaborations have helped Putrajaya recover a sizeable sum of the embezzled funds and assets, but Liew said while efforts to recover the rest are still ongoing, the chances of recouping all is likely impossible.

“Given that a major portion of the recovery efforts yielding significant value has already been successfully realised, it is unlikely that future fund or asset recoveries will be sufficient to cover the entire remaining 1MDB obligation,” he told Parliament’s Lower House.

“Consequently, the government is expected to bear the major portion of the remaining net liabilities, estimated at RM20.1 billion.”

(Lawrence Arnold) A retired citizen complained that in response to the government’s carbon-reduction and environmental protection policy encouraging the purchase of electric vehicles, he bought one. However, starting in January this year, his Bantuan Kasih (STR) and Bantuan Asas Sara Hidup (SARA) aid from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) was discontinued, which is like the government contradicting itself in its efforts to encourage people to use electric vehicles.

Balangi Singh (63 years old, retired Tenaga Nasional technician) told Sin Chew Daily today that since the government encourages people to buy electric vehicles for transportation and introduced a tax exemption policy for electric vehicles starting in 2022, he withdrew RM118,000 from his Employees Provident Fund (EPF) in August 2025 to purchase a completely built-up (CBU) BYD electric vehicle.

He pointed out that he was originally a recipient of STR and SARA aid. After buying the electric vehicle in August last year, he still received STR and SARA aid from September to December. STR is distributed every three months, RM400 each time, four times a year, while SARA is RM100 per month.

“Unexpectedly, STR and SARA were suddenly discontinued in January this year. After inquiring with the Inland Revenue Board, I was told that the reason was that I had purchased an expensive electric vehicle, proving that I am wealthy and therefore not eligible for the government aid. This left me shocked.”

He said the government started encouraging people to buy electric vehicles in 2022 to reduce the use of gasoline, as burning gasoline pollutes the air, hence the introduction of the tax exemption policy for electric vehicles.

Balangi Singh stated that he bought an electric vehicle in response to the government’s call to reduce air pollution, but unexpectedly encountered this issue.

He mentioned that since the Inland Revenue Board stated that to regain the government aid, he must sell the electric vehicle, after careful consideration, he decided to reluctantly sell it.

He hopes the government will not contradict itself, to avoid undermining the success of the carbon reduction policy.

KUALA LUMPUR: Behind the launch of Perodua’s first electric vehicle (EV), the Quest for Visionary-Electric or QV-E, lies the story of a young Malaysian engineer whose innovation is helping reshape the nation’s automotive landscape.
Chok Jia Jiunn, 44, the chief engineer of the project, has proven that Malaysia is not only capable of competing in the country’s new automotive era – it is also capable of leading.

“I have always believed Malaysia has the talent and capability to succeed. My motivation comes from the desire to create something that not only meets automotive standards but also reflects the innovation and needs of Malaysians,” he told Bernama at the launch of Perodua’s first EV yesterday.

“Designed by Malaysians for Malaysian needs, I wanted to show that local talent can create something the nation can be proud of.”

The Rawang-born engineer said he was supported by more than 100 young local engineers and researchers aged between 25 and 40, from various departments including internal and external research, electronics, interior design, and safety evaluation.

“Every team member worked closely to ensure smooth progress, from ideas to prototypes, and finally to the completed product tailored for local needs,” he added.

According to him, the QV-E is not just Perodua’s first EV – it is a symbol of the ability, creativity and dedication of Malaysia’s local workforce.

“We hope Malaysians feel proud because this product is created by our own people for our own country. This is proof that, when given the opportunity and trust, local teams can produce something extraordinary,” he stressed.

Chok shared that development of the QV-E began in September 2023, with early focus on in-depth research into local user needs.

Findings showed that Malaysians tend to prefer dynamic vehicles with spacious interiors, premium finishes, and a comfortable driving experience.

Beyond driving experience, he said ease of maintenance was also a key priority in the development of the QV-E.

“Our goal was to ensure that new EV users feel like they are driving a normal car, even though it’s electric. Every aspect is designed for a smooth and comfortable driving experience.

“We positioned the battery so it can be replaced within 30 minutes in the event of any issue under warranty. This is an important step for ensuring a seamless EV ownership experience,” he said.

The QV-E is also equipped with a smart digital system that allows drivers to switch between normal and “sport” mode easily, along with a futuristic design that enhances aesthetics and functionality.

Chok said the QV-E, priced at RM80,000 without insurance or battery, will be on the market soon.

At yesterday’s event, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his pride “not only of the Perodua EV launch, but because it was produced through the expertise, discipline, effort, and perseverance of local talents”.

SAIC Motor Malaysia, the national sales company for MG vehicles, has announced the appointment of Hoffen Yih Ben Teh as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective today.

Teh has over 20 years of experience in the automotive industry and most recently served as Senior Vice-President of Sales, Marketing, and Product Planning at Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia.

The University College London (UCL) Mechanical Engineering graduate also sits on the executive committee of MyZEVA (Malaysia Zero Emission Vehicle Association).

At Mitsubishi, Teh laid the foundation for Malaysia’s battery EV (BEV) market. In the early 2010s, it was not possible to register a BEV in Malaysia because JPJ’s vehicle registration system could not leave a vehicle’s engine capacity and engine number blank.

Teh worked with JPJ to resolve the matter. He also reached out to first responders such as the fire and rescue department, insurance providers, and charging infrastructure operators before introducing the Mitsubishi i-MiEV in 2013 – the first BEV in Malaysia.

At SAIC Motor Malaysia, Teh will oversee Sales, Product, and Marketing operations, leading initiatives to expand MG’s dealer network, broaden its product portfolio, and accelerate the company’s green energy vehicle roadmap. His focus will also include enhancing customer touchpoints, introducing innovative retail experiences, and driving sustainable, future-ready mobility solutions to boost MG’s market competitiveness.

“I am confident that Hoffen’s leadership and extensive industry experience will bring fresh energy and direction to SAIC Motor Malaysia. Illegal e-hailing JB-Singapore

SINGAPORE: Some 19 drivers were caught offering illegal ride-hailing services within Singapore and across the border with Malaysia on Tuesday (Aug 5).

They were nabbed after a combined operation by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority that targeted such activities at a land checkpoint, and through LTA’s patrols at Gardens by the Bay and Changi Airport.

This is the first time the agencies conducted such an operation at a land checkpoint.

In a statement posted on its Facebook account on Aug 6, LTA said that the vehicles involved were impounded.

When asked, LTA did not say at which of the two checkpoints the crackdown happened, but a video shared on social media seen by ST suggests it was the Tuas Checkpoint.

According to LTA, 136 drivers have been caught providing illegal cross-border passenger transport services since 2022, and their foreign-registered vehicles were impounded.

Those who have been charged and convicted so far have been fined up to $2,600 and had the vehicles forfeited.

Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling said in a Facebook post on Aug 6 that LTA was ramping up its enforcement against such illegal services because those drivers do not have the proper licence and insurance coverage for the passengers they might be ferrying.

“Such services put passengers at risk, and harm the livelihoods of law-abiding licensed drivers,” she said.

Sun said that the Government is looking into improving the existing licensed cross-border taxi scheme by expanding the boarding and alighting points, and encouraging more taxis to participate.

This includes getting different vehicle types to serve different passenger needs, and having a user-friendly booking app – something that currently does not exist.

“As these are reciprocal arrangements that we have with Malaysia, these changes have to be agreed by both Governments,” she added.

Efforts to clamp down on illegal transport services have been stepped up recently.

Through tip-offs from the National Private Hire Vehicle Association and regular patrols, the LTA said on July 29 that 12 drivers were caught, including four near Punggol Road and Turf Club Avenue.

This came shortly after an earlier operation conducted on July 18 at Changi Airport caught 10 drivers offering illegal ride-hailing services.

Under the current legislation, offering point-to-point transport services in Singapore and cross-border services without a valid Public Service Vehicle Licence (PSVL) is an offence that carries a fine of up to $3,000, a jail term of up to six months or both.

The vehicles used can also be forfeited.

Only Singapore- and Malaysia-registered taxis approved by the authorities of both countries are allowed to offer cross-border transport. These taxis can pick up and drop off passengers only at designated locations.

KUALA LUMPUR: A townhall to discuss the proposed construction of a national landscape department office, which would see a section of a forest cleared in Bukit Kiara, turned heated yesterday after residents said their concerns were being ignored.

A shouting match erupted when the representative, who was presenting the building plans, responded to a question by a resident on the need for a parking lot at the department’s proposed office.

The resident suggested that the new office be public transport-friendly, to which he replied: “You’re living in an ideal world. Why don’t we stop people from using cars, then we don’t need car parks.”

Another resident then accused the architect of being condescending.

A second exchange occurred when a resident questioned the environmental impact of the development, and what carbon offset measures were in place.

The representative said the proposed development would only take up a small area of the forest reserve, and that the residents still had the rest of the reserve.

This led to a chorus of “no’s” from the residents.

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh then intervened and asked the national landscape department how many trees would be felled.

The department’s deputy director-general Ahmad Syaharuddin Kamaruddin said about 300 trees would be chopped down, but that 85% of these trees were rubber trees, which were an “invasive species”.

He said the department would replant 614 trees and 3,733 shrubs.

Some of the residents had no issue with the department’s plan to build an office, saying one was needed in Bukit Kiara which is also a popular hiking spot.

They said there was a need to “look at the bigger picture” and advised detractors against getting too emotional.

Syaharuddin earlier said that the department needed an office in Bukit Kiara to better serve the needs of residents around the area in a timely manner.

He said there was a need for regular track maintenance for hikers, the removal of fallen trees, and research on the flora and fauna in the forest reserve.

“Right now, we need to travel all the way from Putrajaya to Taman Tun Dr Ismail (to do maintenance work). It is not practical,” he added.
