[Help/Question] Power Surge Inquiry

Skip to Q2 below if you are lazy to read my long essay. Sorry for the long post.

Previously I had no problem regarding power surges, I was using my desktop with no issues for several years in the same house.

About 5 days ago I decided to clean my rig as it was dusty and refill my water cooler(eisberg). After several hours of using my desktop suddenly smoke came out and immediately I turned off everything.

When I checked, my graphic card and motherboard had burned. It burned at the part where both of them are connected. The edge of my gold pin on my graphic card had turned black and my graphic card slot on my motherboard had melted.

At first I thought maybe I accidentally spilled water on it and never realized it, so it caused it to electrocute. Therefore I decided to replace the parts. Nothing else but the two got burned.

So I just changed my motherboard, processor, ram and gpu. My processor and ram are fine but outdated and unable to use with new motherboard so had to change. I got back home and it happened again, I was dumbfounded.

Again only motherboard and gpu burned at the same spot, near the edge where they are both connected. I went to the shop at low yat where I bought the gpu and motherboard and I was told it was probably a power surge.

TL;DR :

Motherboard and Graphic Card burned and become unusable at the part where they are connected. It happened twice. Was told it was due to power surge.

Here are my questions :

Q1 : Is it truly due to power surge or something else?

Q2 : Need recommendation for excellent power surge protectors.

Q3 : What other precaution can I take to prevent it from happening again?
