Education: Need Guidance on Wealth Management

Dear Friends,

I am an old fart with very minimal exposure on financial management.

I am hoping with your help I would be able to learn and get clarity on how I can manage my finances.

Not sure if this is the correct thread or place to ask guidance.

So here it goes. Bear with me as I am slow and not great in expressing thoughts through words.

Narrative:

I have always been struggling with finance my whole life.
Having mounted credit card debits that I couldnt seem to clear for the longest period of my life.
Long and behold, Covid-19 came along and slapped me in the face.
With the loss of job and years of loss of income, i managed to get back to my feet.
Slowly, I cleared out my debts and managed to uplift my life from zero savings to 50K at the age of 40.
Life has not been kind but i tried.

People around me have been doing well and when checked, they all have many different source of income.
Shares, investment, properties, dividends and all those jargons which I am not exposed to all my life came flooding in.
with my slow brain and difficulty of understanding made it more challenging for me to figure things out.

Everyone says its never too late, but l know it is. All I can do now, is slowly uplift myself within the means and capability thats rooted in reality.

Summary:

so here I am trying to ask for help (raising white flag) for the community to guide me and educate me on the right path.
I dont have anything to my name or life.
I would like to take the first step.

with 50K savings I have now, and continue to save on monthly basis.
monthly 10k.
no epf or any benefits.

What can i do and how can i chart a path ahead.

I know its not much information to work with, but I would be glad if someone could start the ball rolling.

I just realised something weird which is confusing after checking my vacc details.

The expiry date of Pfizer vaccine is stated as 1 month.

Update: thank you everyone for clearing uncles confusion. So the vaccine expiry means the viels shelf life and not how long the vaccine is effective in our body.

Just saw this at one of the famous Grocery store.
I don't understand the logic.
How is this helpful in the nations fight to reduce covid-19?
Is there a circular by the government on this matter?
Anyone can shed some light on this matter?
It looks like selective prosecution that is inherently not related to covid-19 reduction initiative.

With the way the country is moving to at this rate, next generation of people are severely going to pay a huge price.

I am a new tv user and i have recently purchased a google tv chromecast 2020.

I usually get accounts from shopee for streaming services. currently using netflix. it has been amazing.

now i am planning to get disney+ and hbo max but i am not sure how and where.(i mean i know its on shopee but not sure if it works as some are just fullhd and not 4k)

anyways, how are you guys using your chromecast? what streaming services and how are you going about it.

so after 3 days of scouting and visiting almost all major electronics retailers in kl, i have narrowed down and also not in peace with my selection. Hope to get some clarity, advice or point me in the correct direction from the sifu's here.

previous model: Toshiba 50" LED (50L2300VM)
Manufacture Year: 2013
Problem Year: 2021 (double image)
To check: RM 150
To repair: RM 500 - 700 quoted by local repair shop - suspect ribbon problem or something. (no panel problem)
To usage years: 8 years

Decided to look for new TV.

Usage requirements:

1. Astro 4K
2. Online streaming
3. unifi Tv
4. Bluray
5. TV is the only source of entertainment in my family.
6. I love watching movies.
7. My viewing distance: 11 feet
8. My parents viewing distance: 23 feet
9. Daytime light is a lot

Specification requirements:

1. 65"
2. 4K native
3. HDR
4. Dolby Audio

Not sure:
1. HDR - 500 nits and above?
2. Dolby Vision?
3. Dolby Atmos?
4. VA/IPS Panel?
5. Get now or wait?
6. 55"/65"/75"
7. of course budget is the deciding factor but to make it simple i cant afford oled price tag of 5 digits. sadly.

From my survey:

1. Samsung 65TU8000 - RM 3,380
2. Samsung 65TU8500 - RM 3,640
3. Sony X8000 - RM 3,860
4. Sony X9000 - RM 6,000 ( )
5. LG 65UN7400 - RM 3,550

Other brands not surveyed.

Currently learning towards 65TU8500 but the kicker kicked in last minute which was a 75" taking a blind swipe at me and throwing me off focused.
Not satisfied or at peace with all the picture qualities based on my survey.

Kicker:

while chatting up with all retailers, i found some retailers offering a 75" LG - 75UN7200 that retails RM 8K at RM 6.6K.
The lowest managed to chat up is for that 75" is RM 5,600(seems to be the best thus far in terms of offerings compared to any other retailers out there.)
That threw me off focused a bit.
Harvey norman comes in no. 2 with the so called focus campaign where they are offering Samsung TU7000-TU8500 at a good price.

Take note all retailers have their own extended warranty that i need to top up(senheng + 1 year free, others + 2/3 years paid)

So yeah....i hope i haven't missed anything.

The reason i am posting here is my undecisiveness and the "WANT" of having the best movie affordable movie experience.
I know "best" and "affordable" doesn't sit in the same sentence, i guess i am just looking for a reassurance from someone to nail the hammer on the coffin.

Tried using FB marketplace to hunt for interesting things at a bargain.
Saw people using "FREE" description to advertise their products.

So messaged them and it went something like this:

Seller: Free (Product Name)
Me: Free?
Seller: RM3k. Can nego
Me: oh okay. I thought it was free. It's okay. Thanks.
Seller: abah kau.
Seller left chat.

Then tried to find seller.
Seller 404
Ad 404

Searched for more "FREE" tag for trolling after and had a field of a day.
APA kebodohan ini?

Troll mode activated.

Clarification: A suspicious call

Dear All,

1. I received a weird call this morning from a person claiming to be a representative from BIGPAY.
2. Claiming I have won RM500 bucks.
3. Asking me if I used BIGPAY
4. Stating that he wants to transfer the money to me

.....before he continued, I cut him off and told him to call me back later as it was too early in the morning for me. I was still sleeping.

Didn't think much about it as there was no call back.

But decided to check my call records one more time.

It was called from a mobile phone number. Didn't even realize it was a whatsapp call that i received.

So decided to post here to see if any others have similar encounter and should a warning be out.
Also not sure if i should divulge details to warn.

Just realised this important information.
It is ACTUALLY illegal by merchants to impose a minimum payment amount when it comes to using debit/credit card.

Come to think of it, this are 2 things which has always bugged me:

1. Can merchants charge extra fee fir using credit card? E.g: if you go lowyat, I mean the entire lowyat, all shops will say the same thing.

2. Can merchants impose min payments. (answered as per article)

Predicament:

It has become a normal that no one questions it. If you do, you will end up being in trouble with the situation. It's like, "u don't like, no need buy, u can go other places"

All this while Bersih(Yellow) has been using the constitution to allow itself to do protest under the law of Freedom of expression.

When they were brought to court, the law voted they were LEGAL.

Having said that, out of sudden Red Shirt came out.

sat down with my friends to have coffee and while talking about this issue, one of my friend interjected and kinnda "mindfarted" us.

"Think about it, if you have a group who is using law against you, the ruling goverment to do all this protest thats against you and indirectly causing public nuisance....how do you turn the table against them? get another group that uses the same law and goes after this group in an unruly manner until it blows up or results in a severe disaster and then you can sit back and point finger at both of them and initiate security forces to step in"

there is a phone shop opened in my housing area (been there quite a while la, i just didn't bother to check it).

Anyways,

Saw a huge banner infront of that shop, saying iphone being sold at cheap price tags. like iphone 6 going for 1250/1550....err....something like that la.

Anyways,

had a conversation with my friend about this, he said he is aware of this. Many so called insta-SHOPS are selling this iphones.

at least from what i can gather, these iphones are LEGIT, but he said, it is refurbished la, open la, used so many terms.

anyways,

checked in GARAGE, iphones are beings sold at 3 grand and above.
