ASUS RT-N56U 2.4GHz connection problems

I recently got the UniFi VIP10 plan and a new ASUS RT-N56U router to replace the stock one. At the moment in my apartment the router and modem is in the living room and in my bedroom which is separated by just 1 wall (which the router is near) I can't for the life of me connect to the 2.4GHz band. The only time I can connect to 2.4GHz, is when I actually have Line Of Sight to the Router.

A few things:

The firmware is the latest on the ASUS site
I am connecting with A Macbook Pro Late 2011, iPhone 4 and iPad
The internet is not a problem, I've been getting service on that front.
I've tried switching channels from AUTO to 4 (which is not crowded here)
I've tried changing the 2.4GHz settings to G ONly, b/g only and N only all with the same results
I've also tried the frequency at 20mHz, 20/40 and 40 only, all the same results
All other settings are stock.
I'm using WPA2 AES for my encryption

The funny thing is that my 5GHz connection works like a charm, albeit slow because of distance to my router. In fact, my 5GHz connection shows as weaker than my 2.4GHz, yet I can not connect to the 2.4GHz connection with the Macbook Pro saying "Connection Timeout" and the iPhone and iPad saying "Unable To Connect To ...."

I was wondering if anyone could give me some some direction on what I should be looking for. Anyone who manages to fix my problem will get my eternal gratitude and perhaps a beer/coffee

EDIT: Oh and testing with the stock router, 2.4GHz works fine in my bedroom, so It will most likely be on the router side =/
