Help me build my new desktop

Dear all computer technology GURU,

First of all sorry for creating another thread on building a new cpu but I really and desperately need to get a new cpu urgently and fast.

My old Intel i3 desktop PC was unable to power up anymore due to motherboard faulty (after sent to computer shop to check), and since my desktop PC already almost 6 years old the current spec of motherboard I am using is already out-of-date and very hard to find (no more stock) according to the PC technician guy, he said that nowadays all motherboard is using different spec and if I want to change and replace my faulty motherboard then the current processes I need to change as well.

I would like to reuse some of my parts currently if is still viable, possible parts I am looking to reuse back are the HDD, DVD room, PSU, RAM, graphic card and casing due to my limited budget to buy all the new one.

Below is my current desktop spec (brought this early 2010) :-

Inter Core i3 530
Gigabyte H55M-S2H (faulty)
Kingston 2GB DDR3-1333
Gigabyte GTS 250 1GB DDR
WD 640GB hard disk
Lite-on DVD writer
CM Extreme 500 W
CM 335 casing

The question is can and advisable for me to reuse back my old casing, PSU, RAM and graphic card? would it already be so outdated and not advisable to reuse back all these old parts anymore (scare it would become the bottleneck) ? or recommend to totally build a new gig with all the new parts within my budget.

Please help me to build/upgrade a desktop gaming CPU for me, my budget is less than RM 2k

Usage purposes :
60% Gaming (L4D, Starcraft 2, GTA, NBA 2K, The Sim, Football manager, Dota etc)
40% are watching movie, listen music, online surfing web, online streaming video, flash, facebook and youtube, and some Microsoft office stuffs for homework.

Suggestion is welcome and thank in advance.

Malaysia TV channel signal on a big screen LED TV

Hill all,

Currently my parent are watching via the old 29' CRT TV which is already 10 years ago, and even though that TV image picture quality still very good, color still sharp and fine but since nowadays LED TV is really affordable I would like to buy a new TV to them as gift.

The problem is we don't have Astro in house and usually my parent is watching strictly on local Malaysia TV channels such as RTM1, RTM2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV and TV9 only. I have heard that those LED big screen TV is good for the digital full HD movies and TV channel such as Astro B.yond but not build for the local Malaysia TV channels as these analog TV channels picture image quality will be very bad displayed on a big screen LED TV, blur and stretchy.

So my concern is if I buy a 47', 50' or 55' LED screen new TV, would it be an overkill and too much, not suitable at all base on my parent usage since they used it for local Malaysia TV channels only ? will the TV picture image be really bad and unwatchable ? I don't want to waste the money on the buying.

It is worth to buy a big screen LED TV in my case ? please advise me

Thanks in advance

Jobs dilemma here, which one should I choose ?

Dear all,

I’m holding a Bachelor Degree in computer science, currently working as a Network Engineer in a MNC IT company for almost 2 and half years, mostly doing some daily network operation, ticket support, troubleshooting and little bit in helping client projects design and their setup.

Somehow I'm feeling myself underpaid at the moment, as I seeing some fresh grad juniors could get around RM2500+ in their first job in IT field, I already graduated 3 years ago and my basic is only RM 3100.

One day coincidentally that I received a phone call from a company stating that their company have available vacancy and ask me about whether I’m interest or not. I think on myself why not give it a try? So I forward my CV to them and they requested me to attend their interview.

I have decided to attend to the interview as I think that even if i failed the interview but I could somehow at least get some experience in the interview and also want to know about how much I could get or know exactly my value in the market, so absolutely no harm for me to attend the interview, right?

After the interview I know that actually this offered was a outsource position as I will be hired by this IT company but actually I will be based in one of their client office handling their company network operation, and I will be the only one people from this IT company at there. Anyway the manager also told me that in case I need helps I could always called back to their office asking questions and some helps from the senior people.

Honestly at first when I received the call I thought that this offered was based in their office but now I knew that actually this position will be based in customer premise. In addition, this is a 1 contract position tenure, the manager told me I will get renew after the contract, he say the company couldn’t give so many permanent position due to head counts concern (Don’t exactly know what he meant).

Currently:-

Job Title : Network Engineer
Years spent in company : 2 and half years
Company: MNC
Industry : IT
Tenure : Permanent
Experience before joining : 6 months in another Company as a Desktop support
Current basic : RM 3100
Benefits: Annual leave, medical and dental, EPF, Socso, OT can claimed

Pros and Cons:-

- I’m familiar with working environment, company policy here
- This is a permanent position tenure
- My manager trusts in me and treat me very well
- I get along well with my colleague here
- OT can claimed, I could get roughly extra RM 200 each month in overtime

- Underpaid (Am i?)

Being Offered:-

Job Title : Network Engineer
Company: MNC
Industry : IT
Tenure : 1 Year Contract
Basic offered: RM 4500
Benefits: Annual leave, medical and dental, EPF, Socso, no overtime claimed

Pros and Cons:

- Higher basic salary
- Could learn new technology there (new environment, different devices)

- Contract position tenure
- Will be the only person from this IT company based in the client side
- New environment & new people, need to adapt it fast
- No OT claimed (Even though I’m not sure how frequent the OT workload there)

Was the salary increment worth it for me to try? (Or both also underpaid) hahaha !

Can all sifu advise and give your opinions for which one should I choose? Your helps will be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Is my PSU enough for my GC Nividia GTS250 ?

Hi all,

I brought a Cooler Master Extreme 500W PSU in lowyat after the shop guys told and convinced me that this PSU is more than enough for my rig.

But now after some more depth informations surfed from web, i just know that this PSU is actually not a real/true power unit.

So now I'm a bit worried whether it could really have enough powers to support my rig (GC - Nividia GTS250) or do i need to change a new PSU.

Buiding a best desktop for me

First of all sorry for creating another thread on building a new cpu but I really and desperately need to get a new cpu urgently and fast.

My old Pentium 4 desktop PC was found faulty last week, and I would urgently like to build a new desktop PC. Would anyone suggest me a spec that suit me well?

My budget:
RM 1800 (exclude monitor, speaker, mouse and keyboard)

Usage purposes :
60% Gaming (L4D, SC 2, GTA IV, NBA 2K10, The Sim 3, Football manager, Dota etc)
40% are watching movie, listen to music, online surfing web, facebook and youtube, and some Microsoft office 2007 stuffs for homework. (Visual, word, excel and power point)

I’m not sure what is best and suit me most, AMD or Intel (although I prefer Intel without any knowledge for it). I’m a hardcore gamer and if situation permit, I wish and would like to play those game in the highest graphic setting possible. (Or at least smooth and no lag lol).

So can any pro sifu here suggest what the BEST processor and graphic card should I get based on my limited budget.

I’m not planning to oc it and hope this new CPU could at least last for another 5 years to me.

Suggestion is welcome and thank in advance.
