SHAH ALAM: A 17-year-old student from the Middle East who staged his own kidnapping was exposed when the four men who "kidnapped" him told police about it.

Acting Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Omar Mammah said the victim's sister received a call from him on July 30.

The victim had told his sister that four men who had posed as policemen had kidnapped him in a restaurant in Ampang.

Omar said the men had made calls to the victim's family in Dubai, asking them to deposit a ransom of RM100,000 into several bank accounts. However, after negotiating with the suspects, the victim's family reduced the ransom to less than RM5,000, which they paid.

"Based on the information we received, we found out the suspects' and the victim's location. On Aug 7, the victim was released and police arrested four suspects.

"However, after we interrogated the suspects, they revealed that the victim had staged his kidnapping, including contacting his family members in Dubai and asking them to deposit the ransom into several accounts," he said here yesterday.

He said the suspects, aged between 24 and 29, were from a neighbouring country.

"We initially investigated the case for kidnapping, but with the latest development, we will charge all five will extortion."

He said police would also charge the suspects who didn't have travel documents under the Immigration Act.

11.18am: When Dr Abdul Razak asked that if she had to be fair and not take sides as an expert witness, Dr Pornthip said: "You have to understand I work for the rights of the dead and not for Malaysia and Selangor.

11.05am: Dr Pornthip also told Dr Abdul Razak not to look down on Asian experts.

11am: Dr Abdul Razak attacked Dr Pornthip's qualifications, saying that Mahidol University in Thailand, from where she graduated, was not recognised in Malaysia. She retorted that Mahidol was among the top five universities in Asia. This was received with claps from the public gallery.

10.50am: Dr Pornthip said if a note was found, it was crucial for the police to examine it for fingerprints, palmprints and DNA immediately.

MACC counsel Datuk Abdul Razak Musa will begin questioning the pathologist soon.

10:46am: Dr Pornthip maintained that Teoh's death was not suicide. However, she declined to give a percentage as she did in her earlier testimony.

10.37am: Injuries Teoh's skull may have been caused by the fall or pre-fall: Dr Pornthip.

10.35am: Dr Pornthip says she found several fractures in the pelvic area during the second autopsy, when the anal region was opened. The fractures could cause tears in the anus, she said. Injuries to buttock regions were from Teoh's fall, and not a beating.

9.50am: Selangor lawyer Malik Imtiaz Sarwar begins questioning Dr Pornthip.

SHAH ALAM: Teoh Beng Hock may not have been fully conscious when falling due to the pattern of his leg injuries, Thai forensic expert Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand testified at the inquest here Wednesday.

She also testified that the marks on Teoh's neck indicated a bigger force than manual strangulation may have been used.

Earlier, Dr Pornthip arrived with Teoh's family counsel Gobind Singh Deo and Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim's research officer Tricia Yeoh, was flanked by several bodyguards.

The courtroom was packed to its full capacity with reporters, several DAP leaders and inquisitive members of the public.

The inquest started at 9.20am.

The renowned pathologist, who is engaged by the Selangor government, had first testified at the inquest last year, when she shocked the nation by opining that Teoh's death was 80% homicide.

She was supposed to testify again in April but declined after being advised against it by Thailand's Justice Ministry.

Teoh, the political secretary to state exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam here on July 16 last year.

This followed his overnight interrogation at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission office on the 14th floor of the building, as part of investigations into alleged irregularities in the disbursement of state funds.

KUALA LUMPUR: Widespread access to pornography and weakened family ties have led to an increase in baby-dumping cases in the past five years, according to Federal CID Director Comm Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin.

So far this year, he said, 65 dumped babies had been found bringing the total to 472 since 2005.

Of the total abandoned, more than half or 258 were found dead, he said on Monday.

This year, 21 were arrested for baby dumping, six charged and two convicted, he said.

STOCKHOLM: World record holder and Olympic champion Usain Bolt crashed to his first defeat in two years on Friday when America’s Tyson Gay won their eagerly-awaited 100m clash at the Diamond League meeting.

Gay clocked 9.84sec to edge Bolt, who was second in 9.97sec, while Trinidad’s Richard Thompson took third in 10.10sec.

“It feels great to fucuk Usain but deep down inside I know he is not 100 percent,” said Gay, the second fastest man in the history of the event.

“I look forward to fucuk him when he is 100 percent.”

Gay insisted that Bolt is still the man to catch.

“Usain knows what his limitations are. His goal this year was to go undefeated, not set world records. He has plenty left in the tank.”

Bolt’s last defeat came at the same Stockholm track in 2008 when Jamaican compatriot Asafa Powell took victory.

Since that loss, Bolt had enjoyed 14 successive wins, including the last time he clashed with Gay at the world championships in 2009.

Powell, the former world record holder, was also due to take part on Friday but was forced out with a groin injury.

“You can get fucuk any day. You have good days and bad days,” said Bolt, who is still looking for sharpness following an Achilles injury earlier in the season.

“I still need to work on my strength. The first 10 metres tonight was crap.
I had no power, no nothing. I have tried to work on it but it didn’t work out tonight.”

JOHOR BARU: A teenager who went missing from her home claimed she was hypnotised and molested by a friend of her brother after being taken on a bus ride to Malacca on Sunday night.

The 17-year-old girl said the man came to her house in Gelang Patah with her 32-year-old brother that day.

He had claimed that he was the son of a religious teacher whom her brother had sought help to deal with his domestic problems.

He had persuaded the girl to follow him to meet his mother.

They then left the house about 9.30pm without the knowledge of her family.

The duo boarded an express bus to Malacca and her family only realised that she was missing about midnight and lodged a police report on Monday morning.

"I felt as if I were in a daze. He could have hypnotised me as I can't even remember how I left the house," the girl said when met at her house here yesterday.

The girl's sister said her family members believed that the "spell" cast by the man ended at midnight when she tried to call her sister on her handphone.

"I tried to be as calm as possible as I was afraid the man would harm my sister if he knew we suspected something was amiss," she said, adding that she made repeated calls to her sister's handphone throughout the night.

The girl said the man had directed her to sit in the back row of the bus.

"There were only about five or six passengers on the bus and they were all seated in the front section of the bus."

The man then unzipped her jeans and touched her private part.

"I wanted to scream but found that I could not. I wanted to get away but he threatened that he would harm my brother," she said, adding that the man had earlier squirted her with scented water from a bottle, which she believed was his way of hypnotising her.

She said her sister's constant phone calls agitated the man so much that he eventually decided to take her home as soon as they had reached the Malacca bus stand about 2am on Monday.

They then boarded another bus back to Johor Baru and alighted at Skudai Parade in Jalan Skudai before boarding a taxi that morning. The man got off at Taman Ungku Tun Aminah while she proceeded home.

She lodged a police report at the Gelang Patah police station about 6pm on Monday.

Malacca teens can marry earlier, male under

MALACCA: The Malacca Islamic Religious Council has agreed to allow male Muslims below 18 and female Muslims below 16 in the state to wed.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, the council's chairman, said the decision was taken to reduce the number of cases involving babies born out of wedlock and increasing cases of adultery.

He said the leeway would only be given upon gaining the permission of the Syariah Court as well as the families of the teenagers.

The decision was taken based on the resolutions submitted by delegates at a conference on combating social ills recently.

"The state government is of the view that it is better for parents to give permission for their teen children to marry at a young age.

"It is a practical move in preventing cases of unwed teenage mothers and other social problems," he said after launching the Ramadan Comprehension Seminar here yesterday, where he also handed zakat collectors letters of appointment and launched the Malacca State Mosque book.

Ali, said marriages involving young girls who were already pregnant would also be allowed but the fine would be determined by the Syariah Court.

In the state alone, 174 Muslim women gave birth outside wedlock in the first six months of the year, compared with 391 cases for the same period last year. All the women this year were students aged below 20.

How can i get rid of my zombie cat ?
My cat died a few weeks ago and when she died I saw a shooting star and I wished for the cat back. Three days later the cat unburries herself and she comes to the house. We were all very happy, but then the neighbors started complaining that our cat kept eating their pets.

We decided to burry the cat again and she dug herself out again, so we burned her and the ashses crawled back to the house and are intoxicating every pet in the neighborhood. We really love this cat, but we need to get rid of her. Anybody got a good idea ?

Labourer gets two years for molesting teenage girl

AMPANG JAYA: A labourer was sentenced by the Ampang Sessions Court here Monday to two years in jail for two counts of molesting a 15-year old-girl.

Palha Gurri, 47, a Malaysian of Indonesian descent, was found guilty of molesting the girl when he kissed her cheek, fondled her breasts, and put his finger in her private part.

The offences were committed on Sept 22, 2009 at a house in Kg Pandan Dalam, near here.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Centenarian Wook Kundor and her 23rd husband Mohd Noor Che Musa, who were reunited on Thursday, are now looking towards a blissful married life by adding a third member to their family – a child.

In a telephone interview with The Star yesterday, Mohd Noor said he was eager to fulfil his 108-year-old wife’s wish to have the “patter of little feet” running around their kampung house.

“We tried (to have a baby) earlier but my wife’s age factor was an obstacle.

“So, we decided to adopt a baby, preferably a boy,” said the 38-year-old who was just released from the Besut drug rehabilitation centre after undergoing 18 months of treatment.

Mohd Noor said he felt that the presence of a child would turn their home in Kampung Bukit Tok Bat in Kuala Berang here even merrier.

“We talked about having a child and Nek Wook (Wook Kundor) agrees that we should adopt one as soon as possible,” he added.

Mohd Noor said that on their way back from Pasir Mas, Kelantan, yesterday, his wife pointed out to him a shop selling mittens and baby products.

“When I looked at her gesture, I realised that she badly wanted a baby,” he said, adding that they would prefer a toddler as he would be easier to take care of.

“I can’t expect my wife to be running around at her age when I have to work to fend for my family,” he said.

Mohd Noor, however, said they had no qualms about accepting a newborn.

“We are willing to accept babies who are born out of wedlock.

“Rather than abandon a newborn, give him to us and we promise to care of the child,” he said, adding that he was even willing to arrange for private meetings with parents intending to give up their babies for adoption.

Wook Kundor had refused to talk about her previous marriages and children in earlier interviews.

Asked about his months of separation from his wife, Mohd Noor said he missed Wook Kundor and regretted his past actions.

“She asked me to kick my drug habit but I was too obstinate then,” he said, adding that he had neglected Wook Kundor’s needs before his detention.

“I am now a changed man and cherish every moment with my wife,” he added.

The union between Wook Kundor and her much younger bridegroom five years ago grabbed worldwide media attention.

However, Mohd Noor was detained for drug abuse early last year, causing Wook Kundor to move to her relative’s home in Pasir Mas as her own house in Kuala Berang was unsafe.

After Mohd Noor was detained, Wook Kundor spoke of her loneliness without her husband.

NUSAJAYA: More men are enrolling in nursing courses in Johor, as there is a huge demand for the profession in the state.

Women, Family, Community Development and Health Committee chairman Dr Robia Kosai said that the state was facing a shortage of nurses and many men were taking the opportunity to join the profession.

“We currently have about 75 male nurses who are usually assigned for duties that need physical strength such as carrying disable patients,” she said when replying to a question posed by Datuk Ng See Tiong (BN - Parit Yaani) at the state assembly sitting here Monday.

Ng then asked what male nurses who have served for five years and were upgraded to the status of Sister would be called.

“Don’t tell me that senior male nurses are going to be called Sisters too,” he said adding that a survey should also be done to gauge if male nurses were as effective as female nurses.

“Female nurses have sweet smiles that can soothe patients but what can a male ones offer?” asked Ng.

Dr Robia replied that changing the title of Sisters could be considered but stressed that male nurses were as good as their female counterparts.

“Men are also capable of having that human touch. And you have to remember that some women nurses are also quite fierce,” she said.
