Laptop for Engineering students

I’m considering buying new laptop for an engineering student (mechanical engineering). Just wondering if a Macbook Air of Windows laptop will be more suitable. I’ve Googled and the results are mainly gaming laptops for its processing power, I presume. I was initially more inclined towards the MBA as the perception of MACOS being more stable, secure, and reliable but am not sure if it’s compatible with the programs that needed to be run in the device. If Windows is your choice what would be the recommended laptop.

Appreciate your views or even your experience as an engineering student.

Thank you.
