GUIDELINES TO MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL ETIQUETTE

FROM VARIOUS SOURCES IN RELATION TO SHARED TRAILS AND NON BIKE SPECIFIC TRAILS

PERSONAL SAFETY
-Wear a brain bucket(yes..that's a helmet) whenever you ride
-Do not travel into remote areas without informing others
-Ride within your capabilities.Ensure that if you want to push your limits,you buddies are around to support you.
-Know your bike and bring the necessary/essential spares.

RIGHT OF WAY IN RELATION TO OTHERS(NON RIDERS)
-Give way to non motorised trail users, i.e. hikers,horse riders,because people judge all cyclist by my actions
-Give way to motorised trail users, ie. motor cross bikes etc,because generally we will end up worse off in an accident.
-Alert others when approaching.Get a bell, or "Excuse me" works quite well

RIGHT OF WAY IN RELATION TO OTHER RIDERS
-Riders have the right of way.If you are pushing your bike,leave the riding line open for others to go past.
-Rider up hill has the right of way.
-Allow faster riders to past

SPEED
-Approach turns and bends in aniticipation that there's someone there
-Make your presence known when approaching someone or any turns

IMPACT ON THE TRAIL
-Leave the wildlife and fauna alone.Magic mushrooms are bad for you.
-Stay on designated trails and avoid destroying vegetation if possible.
-Dont't take short cuts over /around technical sections.If you can't ride it,walk it.
-Learn how to use your front brakes so that you minimise skidding your rear wheel.If you refuse to learn,then ride only in bike parks where people are afraid to maintain the trails.
-Do not litter.Take out whatever you take in.
Practise minimal impact riding,take only photos and memories with you

FUN
-You are to have loads of fun,talk lots of cogs,and make good friends on your ride.
-Develop sense of humor.Some people say it's good for the soul.

using a e2160, gigabyte p35ds3 (pretty old one, forgot which), 2x1gb 667mhz value ram, 8600gt, enermax fma II 460W, and a 19" widescreen monitor (for resolution reference, not planning on changing monitors yet), vista ultimate

been installing and playing some "newer" games like assassin's creed and rainbow6 vegas 2, and there are parts that can be improved on in terms of performance. kind of out of touch with hardware (no money, lol) so i'm just wondering which components of my rig i should change to improve gaming performance. currently looking at ram and graphics card, but not too sure what card i should get that is a worthwhile upgrade from the current card. thinking of a 3870 for the IQ and since i'm only running at 1440x900 i dont think i need a more powerful card(yet). just wondering if my psu should have any problems running a more power hungry card. and if i were to upgrade ram, which brand and size should i need. would like one that can overclock decently. not going for insane OC's, just around 20-30% increase in ram speed without changing the timings (if possible) and a low vram. if any suggestions on other components of the rig oso welcome to comment.

btw i'm on a tight budget, nothing is "needed" yet, just wanna list out future purchases.

ok, so i'm selling off my 8600gt to a friend of mine in early feb (when he's coming back to kl for his midsem break). the money from the sale added with the projected savings i manage to get by then would be roughly rm600. i dont plan on living without my pc for a long time (and i dont have a backup GC) so i'd say that is the max budget. so what cards are the best bang for the buck that i can get for that money? from the pricelist the options for new cards would be a 256mb 3850, a 2900Pro or a 8800GS. and i'm using a 19" widescreen so i'm not quite sure if 256mb or graphics ram is enough or if 512mb is overkill. lol.

anyways i would want ur opinions on what card to get and maybe any other options u can think of.

options after diploma

currently hold a diploma in mechanical engineering from utm kl campus. didnt like the environment. so i'm considering options in private institutions.

was originally going to segi, 3+0 degree uni of sunderland. but its not recognized by board of engineers malaysia. and since its a franchise campus, might not hold the same amount of prestige. and the uni of sunderland doesnt hold much prestige either. lol. but its near my house, can potentially cost much less than the alternatives.

swinburne/curtin university. sarawak. branch campus. about the same price/year as the segi course. but 4 years, recognized by BEM. can transfer to australian campus. holds the same prestige since its a branch, not franchise. would have to pay more for accomodations.

monash/nottingham. same as swinburne/curtin. just more expensive. holds more prestige (both also top 50 uni in the world), recognized by BEM. 4 years oso.

all the above are courses in mechanical engineering. more interested in specializing in automotive though.

uk. expensive. at least rm80k/year including living costs. but if join 4 year sandwich course, and since i have a dip, join 2nd year, 3rd year industrial placement, money earned can pay for most of the final year expenses. can work part time and earn alot. can easily continue with MEng (1 year only), and after grad got 1 year work permit in the UK to earn pounds. and maybe be employed longer. potentially nonid to return to malaysia. and if return oso return with money, rather than flat broke. but starting capital would be high. but potentially only need parents to pay for 1 year only. and it has automotive eng (what i really want to study)

cyprus. lol. mediterrainian island, beautiful place, lotsa greek chicks. lol. recognized by EU, costs roughly half of the fees in the UK/year. can continue with postgrads in uk/eu. got automotive eng oso (but BSc, not BEng)

what would you choose? and my parents arent rich. they just have some savings. and my dad is retiring. which is why i'm thinking long and hard.

any comments/opinions/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

i got a diploma from an IPTA. and i'm interested in continuing my degree either overseas or a twinning degree. checked websites of most local private institutions, most of them require STPM/A levels. not many (that offer twinning programs) accept diploma holders (at least according to what's stated on the websites). and most UK universities require IELTS/TOEFL results but a friend from UTM went to Aberdeen without having to take the english exams. anyways i have a diploma in mechanical engineering from UTM, wishing on continuing in either mechanical engineering or automotive. but highly dependant on circumstances. lol.

anyways, any1 can suggest a college that offers twinning programs for diploma holders? would be a waste for me to take A levels. and going to the UK is abit expensive, would prefer to explore cheaper options. thanks in advance to any useful posts.

spark in casing

just now while using pc, got spark come from inside casing. not sure what happened. but everything seemed to be running fine. shut down, checked for any leaking transistors, couldnt find any. boot up, checked speedfan....

now speedfan shows +5v and vbattery at 0V
what could be the problem, if there is any? what component is dying? mobo or psu?

really need help here, dunno what the problem is....

phone gone crazy abit

using an old siemens cx65 for around 3 years edi. now the phone sometimes shuts down when an incoming message comes in. and i cant take videos anymore. another thing is even though i have 5mb free memory out of 10mb, i cant take anymore pics cos it says 'out of memory'. had to delete stuff b4 taking more pics. any1 know what the problem is? i'm not planning on buying a new phone, so changing phones isnt an option.... yet.

graphics card causes system to crash

i sold my x550 256mb ddr2 card which was working fine, then the buyer said the card crashes when doing anything graphics intensive like gaming or 3dmark. gave him refund check out the card and found out it was true. didnt change drivers or anything. now the card works fine as long as i dont do any gaming. ran 3dmark and it crashed. tried it twice. running at stock speeds, and the core isnt even hot.... what might be the problem? still got warranty left, if can identify problem easier to claim and rma....

bt causing problem

Personal equipment
Modem: huawei (given by streamyx)
Router: none
Firewall used: windows

Problem details: if i turn on bitcomet, everything else wont connect. IE, firefox, msn, all problem. IE and firefox page cannot be displayed, msn cant send message even though can see who online or not.
First occurence of problem: since i got streamyx at the rented house.
Problem frequency: anytime everytime i turn on bt
Problem description:

i'm on a 512k connection, split using a D-link 5port switch, currently 2 pcs connected. whenever i use bt there everything else cannot use. reformatted pc a few times before founding out that bt caused the problem. a friend of mine oso faced same problem, but only his pc connected. he changed modems, problem gone. my housemate can turn on bt and do other stuff, so basically i'm the only 1 facing this problem. switch problem? modem? my pc? need help. thx
