Why Streamyx should have similar price as Unifi?

Imagine that we ask Maxis Celcom Digi etc to offer mobile packages similar to Unifi, e.g. 800Mbps unlimited for around RM200 per month. What would they say? Of course: "Hey, this is different technology la. Of course cannot offer speed that high. Also cannot be that price la, or without quota, unless you want us to go bankrupt."

Streamyx is copper technology. You can install it almost anywhere copper phone lines are available; maybe just need to add a few pieces of extra equipment (but still expensive). Unifi is fibre technology. To offer it in a new place needs massive investment almost from zero.

So, availability/coverage is different. Their installation costs are different; their maintenance costs are different. WTF is so difficult for people to understand?

anybody noticed the wording mistake?

the last sentence should be:

without the keyword "MELEBIHI" it would mean mahkamah syariah can give any punishment to muslims as long as it's not exactly 100 lashes, meaning 50, 200, 300 lashes are OK.

i wonder if this mistake is intentional... yeah, so that later this joker can postpone again, saying he is forced to postpone because of an unfortunate mistake in wording...

webe tethering detection

in case you never heard of it, webe tries to make some extra money by charging you if you want to use wifi tethering when on their network. they'll just forward you to some webpage if you have not activated (and paid for) tethering but tried it anyway:

PUTRAJAYA: Rare earth waste can be sold in Malaysia if Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (Lamp) converts it into commercially safe products, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili on Tuesday.

The was was considered no longer hazardous, if the radiation emission did not exceed 1 becquerel (Bq) per gram, he said, adding that Malaysia practices a higher standard in radiation safety compared to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which he said has recommended that the safe level of radioactivity to be set at 5 Bq per gram or below.

However, Ongkili stressed that Lynas must comply with the conditions of the Temporary Operating Licence (TOL) issued to it, which was to remove from Malaysia all residue generated by the plant, including all products made from the residue.

“In that processing stage, (if) the rate of radioactivity goes below 1 Bq per gram, then it doesn't come under the Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984 anymore.

“It becomes just an ordinary product with ordinary residue that can be used for industrial purposes.

“So this is an innovation that has been pegged as part of the licence and they (Lynas) have said they will do it, but if they don't, then we will have to cancel the licence,” he said in a press conference after launching the ministry's Research, Development and Commercialisation Convention here on Tuesday.

In a statement on Monday, Lynas said it would convert Lamp's water leach purification residues (WLP), which contains a low-level of naturally-occurring radioactive materials, into a commercially safe product called “synthetic aggregate”.

The company maintained that its managing director Mashal Ahmad has said that the synthetic aggregate would be exported to other countries in accordance with international and local standards and regulations and used as civil engineering material.

Lynas also said the plant to convert the WLP residues had been built in Lamp and was now ready for operation.

Ongkili said it is up to Lynas to look for interested buyers for the products produced from the processed rare earth waste.

“(The Lynas issue) has gone through a parliamentary select committee, seminars and consultations, what else do you want me to do except to ensure that they comply with the rules and the regulations? That is my job.

“But there are people who sikit-sikit, kasi panas dan politik (cause uproar by politicising the issue), we are not interested in that.

“1 Bq per gram is what the quarries are producing, where they are firing all the rocks,” he said.

I'm thinking of a new business line: Purchaser of Lynas waste. How does it sound?

It's unlikely for Lynas to be able to find overseas buyer of their "derivative product". In order to help them save face, maybe I can buy it from them. Hopefully they'll agree to a "negative price", maybe something like "negative" RM1 million per ton...? Since Malaysian government already acknowledges that the 1 Bq/g level of radiation is "OK", I can just stockpile it somewhere...

(Lol, some time ago my family bought banglo lots near Putrajaya, maybe I can stockpile it there for the time being?)

PS: These guys are really geniuses. Other countries are scratching their heads at how to dispose of radioactive waste. The Lynas solution is obvious: just dilute it until you reach a save radiation level of 1 Bq/g! Malaysia boleh!

Sony's stupid button scheme!

Been patient about this for a long time...

For those unfamiliar with this issue: the roles of O and X buttons in Sony's consoles are inverted according to region.

Asian (Japan, HK, Singapore, etc):
O means OK
X means cancel

West (US, Europe, Middle East etc):
O means cancel
X means OK

I understand the reason (O is japanese symbol for "correct", I know because my Japanese teacher marks my papers that way. Though when I first I saw it: "WTF??? I GOT ALL ZERO!?") but can't sony make this a configurable setting in their consoles?

Imagine, I have a US PSP, HK PS3. Of course I keep mixing up O and X. Ended up I hacked my HK PS3 - KMEAW CFW allows me to choose which scheme I want.

Then, since my PS3 is hacked, no more online. Ended up buying a 2nd hand PS3 just for online - but forgot about this O and X issue (bought a Singapore PS3). Argggh!!!

F*ck Sony! Gamers rely on reflex. How can I rely on reflex if I keep mistaking O for X and vice versa?

How hard is it for Sony to make this a configurable setting? I was thinking of buying a PS Vita, but of course I need to buy a US version. Or maybe wait until it's hacked...

Anybody else not happy with Sony's f*ck-up in this matter?

New feature request: "search in first post"

When doing a search, currently we can choose between "search titles only" & "search entire post". I think it is good to add one more: "search in first post only". This is useful in Garage Sales threads, because the first post (by the thread starter) contains the most important information (such as seller/buyer location, more info on the product, etc). For example, I always look for items being sold in my area (Cyberjaya) but most sellers do not put this information in the title. If I search the entire post, then I will get matches from every thread where there is a buyer asking "can COD in Cyberjaya?" etc...

SSD: low write speed problem

i just bought a corsair F60 to use in my hp mini 210 (streamyx) netbook. quite impressed by the speed improvement, but then i noticed that my write speed is lower than it should be.

here's my atto benchmark:

notice that the write speed seems limited to around 100MB/s.

it was slightly worse (hovering below 100MB/s) before i installed intel matrix storage controller, which is supposed to enable AHCI. i'm not even sure about that, since hp mini BIOS does not have any option to enable/disable AHCI. (but i confirmed that before installing intel matrix storage controller, the performance was slightly worse.)

it seems to indicate that AHCI feature is recognized (and active?).

i also checked whether TRIM is enabled - which it seems to be:

is there anyone here who had the same experience? please help me solve this problem and/or give suggestions.
