Bitcoin symbol ₿ on iOS

GOOGLE INTRODUCES BITCOIN SYMBOL ON IOS KEYBOARDS
https://bitcoinist.com/google-bitcoin-symbol-ios-keyboard/

[attachmentid=10186368] Image Source

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Google now enables the Bitcoin symbol on keyboards for iOS mobile devices, suggesting that the IT giant recognizes Bitcoin as a mainstream currency.

GOOGLE’S LEGITIMIZATION OF BITCOIN
Users of iOS mobile devices can now use the capital letter serif B, traversed with two vertical lines. Crypto journalist Tim Copeland explains,

“To access it, make sure you’re using the Google keyboard, not just the default Apple one, and hold down the dollar symbol to see a pop up of several of the world’s major currency symbols. The Bitcoin symbol is located on the far left.”

Actually, Google’s decision to incorporate the cryptocurrency symbol in its keyboard might be Google’s second step towards considering Bitcoin a mainstream currency.

In September 2018, the tech giant lifted the ban it had imposed four months earlier on cryptocurrency advertising. In the announcement, Scott Spencer, Google’s Director of Product Management, Sustainable Ads, stated:

We don’t have a crystal ball to know where the future is going to go with cryptocurrencies, but we’ve seen enough consumer harm or potential for consumer harm that it’s an area that we want to approach with extreme caution.

According to Copeland, these moves by Google might not help to dramatically increase Bitcoin’s rate of adoption,

But, it is a major endorsement by the web giant that has so far stayed away from cryptocurrencies, although a recent ban on advertising crypto projects was recently lifted suggesting Google might be warming to crypto: A small step, but a positive one.

TECH GIANTS ARE STEPPING UP THEIR SUPPORT FOR BITCOIN
The symbol representing the Bitcoin currency unit is already part of the Unicode standard, version 10, and it has been since June 2017. The Unicode character assigned to Bitcoin is 20BF.

Thus, for example, Microsoft products allow users to insert the cryptocurrency symbol, ₿, by typing 20BF plus ALT. In addition, Microsoft accepts payments in Bitcoin for media content on its Windows and Xbox stores.

Although Apple has not yet officially enabled the Bitcoin symbol, last September, its mobile operating system iOS12 added two Bitcoin glyphs as part of the Siri Shortcuts app.

Now, Bitcoin enthusiasts are waiting for Google to further legitimize the cryptocurrency by also making the Bitcoin symbol available to Android operating devices.

Bitcoin & Lightning Network

//This is just my personal understanding on Lightning. Just sharing as I also still learning//

Lighting Network (LN) is still very early in terms of UI and UX, bugs here and there. But if you already own some Bitcoins and get the basic of it, I can assure you it's pretty easy to get a hold on Lightning.

Resources:
What's better than the original source right?
https://lightning.network/
No altcoin. No ICO. No trading. Just a Layer-2 protocol built on top of Bitcoin. To transact Bitcoin way faster and unfairly cheaper.
Remember - this is to send Bitcoins.

Do you have to understand the technical? Need to mine it? Run full node?
You can. But I try to be honest and say I dont have time to 100% understand the codes & software development. The devs have developed a good, working software that can be used. Greatly appreciate it.
Everyone can code, but not everyone will code or become expert on coding. So I will contribute in other way.
That being said - if you want total control - running full node is the way to go (Both Bitcoin node & Lightning node)

And luckily today (big thanks to the devs) just like many of us did with Bitcoin earlier back then, you just have to use it:
1) Setup a desktop wallet or Android wallet app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lightning.walletapp)
2) Have few dollars to spend and try out new tech
So we go straight to using it.

Can you lose Bitcoin on LN?
Yea sure (keep your FUD, Bitcoin-haters). Yes you can lose money, it's still very early tech. Be prepared to be called reckless.
So dont put all your valuable Bitcoins on LN. Yet.
Still, LN is a very interesting tech. Like Bitcoin on early days.
Sending Bitcoin within LN can be as low as RM0.0003.

Ok I got my LN wallet up. Whats next?
1) Put some Bitcoins on it (You dont have spend more than $5; ~RM18) - again, just like Bitcoin, consider this for learning purpose)
2) Open channel. Convert Bitcoins to Lightning ready (you need to pay Bitcoin txn fees, just like you normally pay for sending Bitcoin)
3) You can see your Bitcoin balance on Lightning
4) Before you can receive any Lightning payment, you will first need to spend some.
5) Try few stores!
- Bitrefill & BitcoinPayBill - Mobile credit top up ( I use Bitrefill few times in here & overseas)
- Joltfun - Buy games (Steam etc)
- Satoshi Place - online graffiti/drawing board (paid for pixels you used)
- Y'alls - Earn and pay for articles
- MMOGA - buy game currency (which is just another altcoins - but at least have actual use case where you can spend the coins in an actual game)

many more sites but I dont think I can share here. *whisper: lightning(spin)

6) After some spending, you can now receive some Bitcoin on LN. The wallet will tell you the max amount of Bitcoin you can receive.
The more you spend, the more you can receive.

so far that's all. hopefully you can share you experience with Lightning as well and appreciate your feedback if anything.

http://lightningbitcoin.io/team.html - This is an altcoin. Not related to Lightning Network.

If you want to get your first altcoin...

Hello,

New to Bitcoin & cryptocurrency?

Interested to try and acquire altcoins like XRP, DGB, ADA, DOGE, XLM etc. but major exchanges disabled new registration?

You can also acquire coins from me. While waiting for exchange to solve this issue.

Steps:

1) Available only for coin listed on Bittrex(dot)com
2) Any amount of altcoin worth maximum 0.01 BTC, minimum 0.0005 BTC
3) PM me this:
- Altcoin name
- Altcoin public address
- Amount
4) I will quote you the value in Bitcoin + my Bitcoin wallet address
5) Send Bitcoin to that address (Adopt Segwit for cheaper fee and faster transaction! )
6) Once the transaction appear on my wallet/block explorer, even with pending confirmation (0-conf) - I will then send altcoin to your altcoin public address

Important before we barter coins!

//If exchange withdrawal is under maintenance, I won't be able to send coins to your wallet.

//This is not a quick-rich pump&dump scheme or any part of it, that's why I don't encourage large amount. Treat this as learning, or maybe a little bit of investing/speculation as long as you know what you're doing

//Be aware of coin's transaction fees youre acquiring. I will simply send amount you ordered. You order 100unit, I will send exactly 100unit and wont be responsible if miner or node collect transaction fees and you receive less than you ordered.

//I'm just trying this out. I don't really seek profit. Just enough to cover transfer fees and make it worth my time.

//I reserve the right to not quoting the price. Maybe due to volatility or other emergencies.

//This is a barter. So I'm not accepting altcoins back for whatever reason.

//Always do your own research and always invest money you are willing to lose.

Feedbacks are most welcomed.

Volkswagen plans to cut 30,000 jobs

Volkswagen has announced plans to cut 30,000 jobs worldwide with about 23,000 of the losses borne in Germany.

VW, still dealing with the aftermath of the emissions-cheating scandal, aims to rejuvenate its core brand, and develop new electric and self-driving cars.
VW says it will create 9,000 jobs as part of investments in new products.
The cuts should bring annual savings of €3.7bn (£3.2bn; $3.92bn) by 2020. VW and unions have been hammering out a plan to revive its fortunes since June.
Volkswagen chief executive, Matthias Mueller, said it was "the biggest modernisation programme in the history of the group's core brand".
"The VW brand needs a real shake-up and that is exactly what the future pact has turned out to be," he added.
The car giant - which employs 610,000 people in 31 countries - wants to increase the brand's profit margin from 2% to 4% and to do this it will need to improve productivity at its German plants by 25%.
It has 120,000 workers in Germany so the cuts represent a fifth of employees in its heartland.
Volkswagen has pledged there will be no compulsory redundancies and the top staff representative in Germany, Bernd Osterloh, said the new models would be built there: "The next generation of electric vehicles will be made here in Germany, not abroad."

Costly settlement
Volkswagen has been battling a crisis caused by its attempts to dodge strict US emissions limits.
It was revealed in the US last year that VW's diesel cars were fitted with software that "knew" when cars were being tested.
The company has agreed to pay $15bn in a settlement with US authorities and owners of about 500,000 vehicles.
Around 11 million cars worldwide have the software.
The VW group comprises 12 brands from seven European countries: Volkswagen passenger cars, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ducati, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Scania and MAN.

Analysis: Theo Leggett, business correspondent
Volkswagen is cutting 23,000 posts in Germany alone, but don't expect protests in the streets of the company's home town of Wolfsburg. This has been a hard-won deal drawn up after lengthy negotiations with union leaders. They call it the Future Pact.
No-one in Germany will be forced out - early retirement is likely to provide a large portion of the cuts. And VW is creating 9,000 'future proof' positions as part of a major investment in new technologies. Many workers will simply move into new posts.
What this plan really represents is a culture shift at Volkswagen. Even before the emissions scandal, it was clear the core brand in the group was underperforming, with profit margins well below those of its rivals.
The scandal provided the catalyst for a major shift towards electric cars and potentially self driving systems. In future VW may be making fewer engines and more electric motors, fewer gearboxes and more batteries. Software and sensors will become ever more important.
Such a transformation will cost money - at a time when VW is still paying the price for its emissions misdemeanours. So saving $4bn a year looks like a very good idea.

Source

inb4 agenda frau Merkel election promo - bring jobs back to Germany
