DVD Writer Problem in Vista

Hi,

I hope that I'm not the only one having this problem.

I got this Compaq V3000 laptop, OS: Vista and XP (dual boot) and of course the DVD writer. On many occasions in Vista, when I tried to access the contents of the DVD by double clicking the DVD Drive Icon on My Computer, a message will popup, saying, "Preparing Blank Disc" and I get the option of entering the date. Obviously, the disc is not empty. However, I have no problems reading and copying the files in the very same DVD when I boot into WinXP.

I can say that this is not a hardware problem. Probably some tweaking is needed in Vista. Anyone care to help??

Thanks.

Dual activation for Office 2007

Hi

Recently I came to know that my friend got a copy of Office 2007 Student Edition, which comes with 3 OEM license. He used two, and he's going to sell me the last one.

Then I got this laptop here, installed with XP Home and Vista Basic, with dual boot option. My question is, after I install the office 2007 on both OS, can I activate the one on XP first and then activate the one on Vista?

Thanks.

Vista Upgrade from XP Home, possible?

Hi,

Is there any vista upgrade pack available on the market?

I just learned a very expensive lesson. I bought a Compaq V3754TU. It came with FreeDos. So I wanted to put in XP Home in it. Since a lot of people gave me the impression that Vista is no good. So, I installed the XP Home, and I struggled to find all the driver. Now I still couldn't ge the Sound, Modem and Wifi working. And at the same time, I activated my XP Home OEM. Stupid me, I believe there's no chance for me to use that copy of XP Home on another PC.

So, what I'm trying to do now is to give Vista a try. I wouldn't want to buy a full OEM pack for Vista coz I'm totally out of budget after getting the laptop.

Hi,

A week ago, my company's internet was down for one whole day. No one was able to work efficiently that day. We called TMNet, they sent their technicians, and replaced the DB102 modem with a "Billion" modem. Problem solved. So, my boss wants me to get a backup modem for the company.

Which modem should I get?

Network Configuration:

Line --> ADSL Modem --> Cisco Pix Router --> Network Switch --> PCs.

I don't have the access to the Cisco Pix, I don't even want to since I'm not familiar with that thing. But I got our ADSL package info, eg Password, Username, IP addresses.

Therefore, I would like to know which modem should I get and how to configure it.

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Recently, my company purchased a new HP notebook. Using the keyfinder software, I noticed that the CD-key for the installed XP Pro is different from the CD-key printed on the COA underneath the notebook.

I've successfully installed ie7, which means that the installed CD-key is authentic. So, should I change the CD-key to the one on the COA?

Hi,

I'm currently having problems installing the KAV OEM v6 and v7. Verify that you have access to that folder." I'm logged on as administrator, and I believe I have access privilege to all files and folders. I hope someone can give me some advice.

Please see attached screen shot.

Thanks.

[attachmentid=316865]

[addedon]October 29, 2007, 7:37 am[/addedon]

Problem solved. I had a look at Kaspersky website and the solution was provided. It seemed that zonealarm had a conflict issue with KAV. All I did was uninstall zonealarm. Installation went smoothly.

PC Hang very often

Hi,

I'm having problems with my PC lately, more accurately, my brother's, since he uses it more often than I do.

The PC will hang when ever he opens a lot of applications at the same time. Initially, I thought it has something to do with the hard disk, therefore, I tried putting in another hard disk and do WinXP installation. The installation couldn't complete because the PC will hang during the file copy stage. I'm not really sure what is wrong, and don't know which parts to replace.

My PC has the following specs:
1. Gigabyte-7VAX-A Motherboard
2. DVD-Writer
3. 80GB & 120GB PATA Hard disk
4. 512 MB DDR Ram
5. Saphire ATI R9250
6. Dlink Network Card

Thanks.
Connecting DV Camera to PC

To all Sifus out there,

My friend just bought a Sony DCR-HC28 DV Camera. He recorded some videos from his company family day. He wants to transfer the videos to more common media, such as DVD, VHS Tape. But the thing is he doesn't have a VCR at home. The only option left is to transfer the video to the PC, and then burn it to DVD. He got a laptop with a built-in IEEE 1394 port.

So, how does one transfer videos to the PC from a DV camera via the IEEE 1394 port? Any special software?

Thanks.

Hi,

My company has a MS Exchange Mail Server, but the server is in UK. Most of the staff are using Outlook 2003 as email software.

My question is, let say, I need to move an account from an old PC to a new PC, what is the best way to do without having the account on the new PC to synchronise with the exchange server to download ALL the old mails?

Thanks.

off topic: Is there any email software which can do MS Exchange mail?
Joining another network domain with the same name.

To all Sifus out there,

The server in my office is installed with Windows 2000 Server. Few months ago, it got crash and we didn't do a backup on the registry. Therefore we got no choice but to reinstall the network OS.

After we reinstall the W2K server, we still use the same domain name. But the problem is most of the PCs can't rejoin the domain although the domain name listed in the PCs is still the same. To fix that, some has to log on under administrator to join, and had to reinstall the windows 2K/XP Pro.

My question is: How to rejoin the domain again without reinstall or log-on under administrator.

Thanks.

So, we don't really need a full time IT admin to manage our computer network and do trouble-shooting.

My question is: Is there any company out there which provide IT support on a long term basis. Eg: An IT guy will come in once or twice a month, even if nothing wrong with the network, just to do some operating system updates and clean up.

I need some contacts from you guys. Maybe you have a friend who provide such services. Our company is in bandar sunway.
