Baby sock survey

Dear daddies and mommies,

I have been in a quest for good quality but affordable baby socks for nearly 3 yrs now in our country. The quality I want for the socks is not hard to meet, they just need to fill in the criteria below:

1) Has grip
2) Easy to wash (meaning the dirt should come off after being sunk overnight and I wash them every day)
3) Anti-pilling (this is v important, I hate to deal with getting rid of them during laundry if they are not anti-pilling!)
4) Fancy designs (yes also v important)
5) Not too thin

Problem is, the ones that fulfill all the above in Msia are normally 9.90 bucks per pair! Or even more!!

I think that's too expensive considering babies are outgrowing clothes everyday. And socks are so important to protect their feet.

So I just wanna know your story of finding good baby socks in Msia. I wonder if you're as frustrated as I'm haha

What's your ideal Family Car?

Dear Daddies and Mommies,

I'd like to know what kind of family car you're currently driving or you're dreaming to have which can last you for a few years down the road.

Lately, my DH and I have been looking for a family car - possibly a 7-seater. But I don't like a big and long car. I still prefer 5-seater with ample cargo space to fit in 2 strollers, diaper bags, and other stuffs.

Any good idea here to share?

Here's my ideal family car:

Mercedez B Class - small but baby-friendly. Big cargo space. Reliable and robust. But can only fit 5 persons...

What's your Beauty Regime during Pregnancy?

Hi Mommies,

Pregnancy hormones can cause many wonderful and evil things to your body. You might enjoy your lush hair for awhile, but then sensitive complexion kicks in. Before you know it, your nails are growing rapidly than ever but you get cuticles altogether! Or even hair on your belly! I feel you, mommies

As a beauty buff, I'd like to ask all the beautiful mommies here, what your beauty regime is during pregnancy. (Daddies, feel free to share with us your wives' secrets too)

Do you have specific ways to prevent from Stretch Marks, for instance?

What about complexion? Some mommies are blessed with pregnancy hormones to have glowing skin throughout 9 months, but some are not.

In my case, I kept most of my beauty products away as soon as I found out about the lil one. My beauty routines include:

Morning: Facial Cleansing with a Gentle Milk Cleanser, Toning with an Organic Toner, and Hydrating with a Hydrating Gel. Followed by SunBlock. (Sun Block is very important to avoid discoloration caused by pregnancy hormones)

Night: followed the same thing excluding Sun Block.

Make-up

I lay claim to no make-up during pregnancy to avoid patting all the chemicals on my face (not even natural or organic ingredients). Unless it's required at work or occasions, I try to wear light makeup.

Stretch Marks

Please do not scratch when there's itchiness on any part of your body. Try to apply lotion or oils every night before sleep so you get to soothe the itchiness and prevent from stretch marks. I heard Olive Oil is good. But I use Bio Oils, because it's less greasy.

Dry Skin all over body

I swear by Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser to keep skin supple and glowing.

Hang nails and cuticles

I still patronage at Nail parlour from time to time when I find my cuticles too irritating but no Nail Lacquer will be painted on. Meanwhile, I use Burt's Bees Hand Salve to keep them "calm" during work.

Haircare

I try not to use professional shampoo (I have a feeling they contain more chemicals). Instead, Organic Shampoo for they're milder. Short or long, i think it's up to the mommies. As long as you have healthy hair.

Foot Care

I'm not blessed with beautiful feet esp during pregnancy, they tend to be extremely dry. So I have to put on footcream every night before sleep.

That's pretty much from my experience. Please share with us yours too

What to prepare for Confinement

Hi Peeps, I don't know if there's any similar post before me, but I thought it would be nice to start a post on what to prepare for confinement.

First and foremost, Confinement - in Chinese cultures - is the utmost important period following childbirth (often 30 to 45 days) for women to recuperate and regain energy after the birth. Women are advised to rest completely, often with help from Confinement Nannies, and take specially prepared meals and herbs for fast healing.

Before confinement (in my opinion), there are things you can buy beforehand to prepare for that one month:

1) Long sleeve tops & sarungs - you have to wear long sleeves and long pants or sarungs to prevent from "wind". Sarungs can be found in local malay markets. Or, try Central Market.

2) Medical pads (you can get from Caring, get the largest possible) - I lay them on top of my bed before i lay down to rest. It's more hygienic esp for women who experience post-partum bleeding. In my case, it helps absorb my sweats so my sweats won't go directly to my expensive bedsheet

3) Disposable Panties - I prefer them because you use and you dispose of it rightafter. I usually get the Cotton ones from Guardian.

4) Female Hygiene Care - Many traditional Chinese would still prefer to get Da Feng Ye 大風艾 - one type of Chinese Dried Leaves/ Herbs for port natal women to use for bathing. They are often cooked in a big pot before being used. In my case, I use the sachets of mixed herbs from Amway Post Natal Care Package. My CL would add Ginger Skins in the hot water to add the effect of getting rid of "wind". Using the modern sachet is more hygienic, because you don't have to do the job of cleaning the leaves in the toilet. In the package of Amway, it also has another type especially for women to use to clean the private part (for vaginal birth).

5） Baby Bath Herbs - you can get them from Chinese Medicine Shop. They come in big sachets.

6) Abdominal Binder - for Malay massage or you can DIY

7) Massage Oils - for Malay massage

As for the Food stuff, you should stock in the following:

1) Red Dates, Dried Longan, Dried Pilose Asiabell Roots (also called Dang Shen or 黨參), Black Dates, Wolfberry - to make your daily "drink".

2) Benedictine D.O.M. Liqueur - to drink every night before sleep, and be used for cooking and double boiling. Approximately 6 1L bottles in my case.

3) Rice Wine - you have to order from those traditional Chinese ladies. I ordered 20 bottles and finished them the last time. For cooking. Try to find in Chinese Herb Stores.

4) Hard Liqueur - such as X.O., Brandy, V.S.O.P should be "ready at your dispose". I finished 3 V.S.O.P. the last time. Mainly for cooking and double boiling.

5) So Hup Pills - I bought the Eu Yan Sang ones, 12 boxes for 12 day consumption right after delivery. To get rid of "wind".

6) Bak Foong Pills - also from EYS, 6 boxes for 6 day consumption after finishing So Hup Pills. To recuperate.

7) Ginger Wine - I also prepared one bottle of this from EYS for cooking on top of the rice wine I have.

8) Wu Jin Pills - 烏金丸 this is used traditionally to promote blood circulation. It helps getting rid of dirty blood clots from your body. 1 is enough.

9) Sheng Hua Soup - 生化湯 also is used traditionally to promote blood circulation. You take also to get rid of dirty blood clots. 1 or 2 packs should be enough.

10) Sesame Oil - for cooking

11) Black Vinegar - for cooking. My previous Confinement Lady says the good one is 小狗牌. Not easy to find in KL though.

12) Chinese Angelica or Dang Gui 當歸 - for double boiling

13) Mee Suah - I love Mee Suah and it's really easy to prepare. I bought tons of the handmade ones from Yong Peng, a place near my hometown in Johor.

14) Ovaltine Chocolate Beverage Mix and Cream Crackers - these come in handy for nibbling time during your confinement. Milo is not recommended as it might develop phlegms.

Of course, right after you give labour, you should have your CL/ Hub/ Mom/ MIL/ Whoever it is to buy you the Bentong Ginger, Lean Pork Shoulder (梅肉), Chicken, Fish, Vegetables, etc. to fill up your refrigerator.

I hope I did not miss out any important detail here, and hope you can also share your list if it's different and helpful! Thanks!
