MPlayer codecs.

Hi guys...as u all may know. MPlayer website has been shut down. I require codecs for playing avi files. I have downloaded divx4linux and runned install.sh and all that does is screw up my system. mplayer cant play avi and it also cant play mpeg anymore which previously it can. Now it just displays a green screen but with sound using the xv option. x11 will play mpg but its choppy and slow. Any ideas?

I am running Ubuntu 4.10 Hoary Hedgehog.

Thanks guys.
