Joshua Wong urges Taiwanese show support for HK

Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong, a central figure in the territory’s ongoing mass anti-Beijing protests, urged Taiwanese people on Tuesday to hold their own demonstrations as they face growing pressure from China.

"We hope that before Communist China’s National Day on Oct 1, our friends in Taiwan can express their support for Hong Kong through street protests," Wong, 22, said at a news conference in Taipei.

Wong urged Taiwan’s government to let Hong Kong protesters seek political asylum. Taiwan currently has no asylum law for Hong Kong residents.

William Chew’s personal journey from being a food-loving mama’s boy to a chilli paste entrepreneur in Sheffield had tough, fiery “Dragons” from British television programme Dragons’ Den in tears, moving one of them to offer him £50,000 (RM257,000) to help him expand his business.

His pitch impressed Sarah Davies, one of the Dragons who founded a retail business while at university.

She was one of the contestants who benefited from the BBC2 programme, and now, her business has an annual turnover of more than £34 million.

Dragons’ Den is a series in which budding entrepreneurs get three minutes to pitch their business ideas to five multi-millionaires, or Dragons, who are willing to invest.

Blizzard sues Chinese mobile game company

Blizzard is hitting Chinese mobile game developer, Sina Games with a lawsuit for copyright infringement over copying its Warcraft characters traits for its mobile game, Glorious Saga.

On top of that, the Chinese developer also reportedly took weapon designs and sound effects straight from the MMORPG and applied to its own game.

The Warcraft developer and publisher is currently seeking a maximum damage claim for $150,000 per infringed work, attorney fees and other claims.

In the lawsuit, it was also mentioned that Sina Games has gained a huge profit using the copyrighted characters and has attracted thousands of players using its copied imagery.

Boy rape cousin

Police arrested a Standard Five student on Sunday for raping his 12-year-old cousin.

The incident took place at their home and was discovered by the victim's brother who walked in on them.

Penampang District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Harris Ibrahim said the victim’s mother then lodged a report, leading to the arrest at noon the next day.

“The male child admitted to committing the sex act with his cousin for at least four times,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

“He admitted to being influenced by pornography which he used to watch through his smart phone.”

Mohd Harris added that the police are investigating when the rapes began.

The boy has been remanded for seven days for investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

Teacher hit by student with chair

A 48-year-old teacher, who was assaulted by her student, is still suffering from trauma and no longer wants to return to her school.

The teacher’s relative met Melaka Action Group for Parents in Education (Magpie) chairman Mak Chee Kin to relate her condition after she was brazenly hit with a chair by the 14-year-old student during class on Monday morning.

The teacher is afraid and we help to bring up her plight to the State Education Department, Mak said yesterday.

The teacher, who suffered a fractured right index finger, was hit after she chided the student for insulting her with derogatory remarks. She made a police report on the same day at Tengkera.

Mak said the teacher had reprimanded the boy for hurling abusive words like stupid while she was conducting Geography lesson on that day.

The teacher asked him to stop using such remarks but he continued his slurs, he added.

Mak said the student apparently challenged her to hit him, and the teacher slapped him before he retaliated by swinging the chair at her.

Mak said he would bring up the matter to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, who has expressed his concern over bullying cases among students.

DAP Kerk Kim Hock passed away

Former DAP secretary-general Kerk Kim Hock passed away at 6.10pm on Wednesday. He was 61.

He was in a coma after an operation for his Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) problem, according to his son Kerk Chee Yee.

Kim Hock was first diagnosed with rectal cancer in 2002. He was cancer free in 2007 until he had a relapse in 2015.

Kim Hock, a former political secretary to DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, was also a Durian Daun assemblyman for one term from 1986 to 1990.

He was subsequently elected Pasir Pinji (now Ipoh Timur) MP in 1990 and 1999.

He was also Kota Melaka MP from 1999 to 2004 before officially calling it quits from politics.

Kim Hock also served as DAP secretary-general from 1999 to 2004.
