It keeps returning to the screen requiring me to select either of this---&#62;start windows normally, start in safe mode, start in safe mode with command prompt. However, all attempts were not successful and the same screen would appear again. I then pressed F2 once i restarted, n performed a hard disk self test under Phoenix BIOS setup utiltity, and my test status turned out to be #2-07 Fail after it run for less than 2 mins. The memory test turned out OK. <br />Previous to this critical failure, my laptop has been showing symptoms of a single beep sound every time windows started. Often, it would not boot into windows, leaving only a black screen with a single blinking cursor. Nothing i could do to proceed except a forced restart. Also, a grey fuzzy diagonal stripe would appear everytime i used the laptop after an hour or once i moved my screen. Sometimes it could go up to a few times when i use it for a few hours. The screen would come to a complete halt and i had to do a forced restart by unplugging my power supply to shut it down and restart again.<br />It is a 3 years old compaq pressario v3000. Can it still be saved by changing a new hard disk? How much does one cost? I am wondering if i should call my technician, cos a labour charge of RM100 will still be imposed on me even if he cant solve the problem. Please help.
