Beberapa hari lepas tular video memaparkan produk digelar kertas ruqyah (ruqyah paper) yang didakwa boleh menyembuhkan gangguan sihir, jin dan ‘penyakit ain’.

Dijual pada harga bermula RM131, kertas ruqyah itu diperkenalkan oleh sebuah syarikat di luar negara dan giat dipromosikan di laman sosial Tik.

Video selama 1 minit 5 saat yang dikongsi di laman X itu bagaimanapun mengundang reaksi orang ramai yang rata-ratanya beranggapan perbuatan itu salah dari sudut agama.

Mengulas perkara itu, Mufti Pahang Abdul Rahman Osman berkata, amalan menulis ayat Quran di atas kertas lalu direndam dan diminum airnya adalah dibenarkan namun hanya dengan menggunakan dakwat jenis saffron yang boleh dimakan.

“Jika ditulis dengan dakwat seperti saffron, itu tidak salah, ada ditulis di kitab-kitab tafsir. Kalau ditulis menggunakan dakwat yang memudaratkan itu tidak boleh,” katanya semasa dihubungi Malaysiakini.

Bagaimanapun katanya amalan itu hanya digalakkan sebagai ikhtiar untuk merawat penyakit dan bukan untuk diniagakan.

“Dalam konteks perniagaan pula, ia bukan untuk diniagakan. Kita nak amalan itu berkat. Dalam Islam kita disarankan untuk membaca ayat-ayat al-Quran.

“Kita tidak mahu peniaga menyalahgunakan ayat al-Quran dan tidak mahu ia dijadikan mainan,” katanya lagi.

Abdul Rahman juga berkata Islam tidak membenarkan air yang dibacakan ayat al-Quran dilabel dan kemudiannya dijual untuk mendapatkan keuntungan.

“Air yang dibaca seperti khatam Quran, surah Yasin, ia tidak boleh dilabel untuk dijual. Kita tak nak begitu dan tidak dibenarkan untuk menulis begitu," jelasnya.

Mengenai produk berkenaan, Abdul Rahman mencadangkan ia diperhalusi jawatankuasa fatwa sekiranya mahu dibawa masuk ke negara ini.

“Kita harus bawa isu ini untuk dibincangkan ke jawatankuasa fatwa. Jika produk ini hendak masuk ke Malaysia, ia juga haruslah mendapat kebenaran dari pihak Jakim,” katanya.

Did over 30 million Malaysians register with PADU?

Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin, Malaysia’s Chief Statistician said yesterday that PADU has already achieved over 30 million registrations. The new update raises eyebrows as PADU’s registration count was only 1.5 million the day before. Why the sudden jump from 1.5 million to 30 million? Here’s what we know so far.

To recap, PADU is Malaysia’s Central Database Hub which aims to collect the most up-to-date information on Malaysian citizens. All Malaysians are urged to register and update their information by 31st March 2024 so that they won’t be left out of targeted subsidies which are expected to start in Q2 this year.

During an interview with Astro Awani, Dr Mohd Uzir said PADU has successfully registered 30,076,018 individuals including Malaysian citizens and permanent residents as of 2pm on 23rd January 2024. Out of this figure, 21,966,690 individuals are aged 18 years and above.

He shared that the registration milestone was achieved through the integration of data sources from various agencies. He said data sources that were previously not integrated are finally included on PADU. The state with the highest PADU registration is Selangor at 5.8 million, followed by Johor with 3.7 million and Sarawak with 2.6 million.

In addition, DOSM claims that 1,568,820 individuals above 18 years old have successfully updated their information on PADU and this represents 7.1% completion rate.

Looking back at the previous daily updates, PADU has been reporting the number of successful registrations on PADU. Here are the PADU registration numbers reported daily since 7th January (until 11:59pm):

Three hours ago, PADU reported 1,613,454 individuals have successfully updated their information on PADU as of 23rd January 2024 (11:59pm). It appears that PADU has switched their reporting from successful registrations to successful updates overnight. However, this raises questions as not all who have registered on PADU with complete eKYC would have necessary submitted or “updated” their records on the platform.

It is safe to say that the recent 30 million “registered” number doesn’t include individuals who have registered an account with PADU and completed their eKYC process via IC and selfie verification. That’s still a long way to go as the government agencies are still going on ground to get as many people as possible to sign up. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi even announced on Sunday that the Rural and Regional Development Ministry will implement manual form registrations to help rural communities to register manually in the PADU system.

The next biggest question is what is defined as individuals successfully updated their information on PADU? Does it count individuals who merely have created an account on PADU? Or does it count individuals who have actually completed and submitted their data on PADU.

PADU is still a data-entry exercise
A quick check reveals that despite the latest “registration” milestone, there’s no change on the information displayed at the PADU platform. Those who have registered previously would still get a blank form with barely any populated records and “updating” your records on PADU is still a data entry exercise.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Public Service Department (JPA) has issued a circular urging all public servants to update their data on PADU by 15 February 2024.

Apple’s smartphones aren’t cheap, making them not just a necessity but also a status symbol for some. With its increasing price tags, it also makes iPhones an easy target for thieves. Unfortunately, one guy not only had his iPhone stolen from him, but it happened before he received it and he even got a fake one in the mail instead.

Reddit user u/theEdmard had posted on the Apple and Linus Tech Tips subreddit highlighting his unusual ‘iPhone’ after ordering an iPhone 15 Pro Max from the Apple website itself. According to u/theEdmard, he had ordered his iPhone 15 Pro Max from the Apple UK website itself, and was given legitimate tracking details. However, once the package arrived, he first noticed upon unboxing it that it came with a screen protector already on—something Apple does not do normally. The box itself looked normal at first but on the inside, he noticed that the internals were ripped up, with new paper tabs pasted over it.

On further inspection, it seemed rather obvious that the ‘iPhone’ wasn’t using an OLED display panel too and even had a ‘chin’ bezel on the bottom. Booting it up, u/theEdmard realised that it was an Android smartphone with a heavily customised skin to make it look like an iPhone, and worryingly enough even had a place for you to log into your Apple ID. This could lead to him or anyone else who logs into this unidentified iPhone copy having their Apple ID information stolen. He also checked the battery history, which showed that it definitely was not brand new as it was used over the past month.

As it turns out, u/theEdmard isn’t even the only one to have been scammed like this, hinting at a possible larger scale operation going on by bad actors. A quick search on the official Apple Support forums show plenty of users complaining about receiving wrong iPhones from Apple after purchasing from the Apple website. Some claimed to have gotten older iPhone models that were blocked already due to bad IMEI numbers, while others like u/theEdmard received fake iPhones. Another person who received an Android phone disguised as an iPhone after ordering from Apple posted what he got on TikTok:

In any case, it seems highly likely that between Apple shipping them out and these prospective iPhone 15 Pro users receiving them, someone along the line had swapped out the real thing for a fake one. For most people they could probably identify the fake iPhone, but older folks or those less tech illiterate might end up fooled and never realise it. Even if they do realise it, by the time they file a complaint to Apple, there’s a good chance that the thieves would’ve sold the stolen iPhone already. Apple would also ban the IMEI number of the stolen iPhone once they can confirm that it was stolen, rendering it useless to whoever ends up buying the stolen iPhone unwittingly.

As for u/theEdmard, he has since filed a support ticket with Apple, and Cupertino has since said that they’ll get back to him soon. Chances are that Apple is investigating the issue too, as the last thing they would want are people not having trusting their own website enough to buy their iPhones.

Seorang ahli parlimen Perikatan Nasional (PN) menafikan dakwaan dia menghisap vape di Dewan Rakyat selepas gambar ahli parlimen pembangkang itu memegang objek berbentuk silinder pada mulutnya tular di media sosial.

Ahli Parlimen Tanah Merah Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz dilaporkan oleh FMT menjelaskan bahawa objek yang dimaksudkan adalah sebatang pen.

Ikmal dipetik portal berita itu sebagai menegaskan bahawa dia tidak merokok mahupun hisap vape.

“Semua orang tahu saya bukan kaki merokok, duduk sebelah orang merokok pun saya tak tahan, apatah lagi merokok, hisap vape jauh sekali,” katanya dilaporkan berkata.

Dia turut menyatakan kesediaannya untuk memberi penjelasan berhubung perkara itu kepada Speaker Dewan Rakyat Johari Abdul, yang berkata dia akan mengeluarkan surat kepadanya pemimpin PN itu.

Pada Ogos 2020, Menteri Luar Negeri ketika itu, Hishammuddin Hussein dikenakan kompaun kerana hisap vape di Dewan Rakyat.

Bagaimanapun, Hishammuddin tidak mendedahkan jumlah kompaun yang dikeluarkan Kementerian Kesihatan.

Pesalah sebelum ini telah dikompaun sehingga RM500, dan kegagalan menjelaskan jumlah itu boleh menyebabkan denda tambahan RM10,000 atau penjara dua bulan, atau kedua-duanya.

Hishammuddin turut memohon maaf selepas dibidas oleh netizen kerana hisap vape semasa sidang Parlimen ketika itu.
