Is it naive to want to buy a new manual car?

I've been driving manual for several years now and I enjoy it despite what people might say about it (troublesome during jam, etc). Most of all, I enjoy the novelty of driving a manual.

My question is, is it naive to want to buy a new manual car? I've always rationalise driving manual by thinking that it's more fuel efficient compared to automatic. Is this still the case?

The cars that I'm considering is one of the new Myvis that's released today, and the 2016 Toyota Vios 1.5J MT.

CS:GO lagging with UniFi 5Mbps?

I have an XPS 15, (L502X), with a Sandy Bridge i7 quad core, 2GHz processor, and nVidia 540M GPU, with 6GB RAM. While playing offline with bots is excellent and practically flawless, the same can't be said when playing online. There's a lot of 'teleportation' by me and by other players on my screen, popping in and out, back and forth, like 30% of the time. It's basically unplayable.

My ping is usually around ~20. I'm sure I'm in a local server, as the server is named LowYat.

Is 5Mbps not fast enough? Or is there something wrong with my settings somewhere?

Pressed the On/Off button and everything worked fine again.
28th August 2012: Was taking a stroll in the park at night and the lens error message appeared again. This time the lens cannot be retracted, just like in the YouTube video above.
29th August 2012: Sent it for repair at Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. at Peremba Square, Shah Alam.

I have also posted about my experience on the dpreview forums:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

QUOTE

So I'm an S100 user residing in Malaysia (hot and humid place). I bought my camera in the 4th of March, 2012. Was a happy consumer. My camera's serial number was within the 'could be affected' range.

http://support-my.canon-asia.com/...type=n...s-powershots100

On the 24th of July, 2012, I was in a football stadium watching a game when I first saw the lens error message. A press of the power button solved it, and the camera functioned back to normal. I ignored the event.

The next time I saw the message was on the 28th of August, 2012. I was in a park at night, and the lens error was in full force. This time the lens really could not retract, and when I hit the power button...

1) Rapid clicking sounds
2) Start up screen appears + 6 beep sounds.
3) Lens error message:

Lens Error
Will shut down automatically
Restart camera

I am sending it to Canon's "Corporate Head Office, Showroom & Service Centre" first thing in the morning tomorrow. Good thing it's not terribly far away from where I live.

Will keep it posted on this thread.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

QUOTE

So I just came back from the Canon place. Sat down and talked with the woman at the counter.

Here's a summary of our conversation.

1) It'll take a minimum of 10 working days to fix it. Then I'd have to go back there and collect it. Delivery would cost 30 MYR. (10 USD)

2) The defected part inside will be replaced, not repaired.

3) I asked for the camera to be replaced with one that is without the 'affected' serial number. Not possible.

4) I asked if they could guarantee that the same error will not happen again after the repair. They couldn't guarantee.

5) I asked how many S100 lens error cases they have handled. About 50, she said.

6) I said out of those cases, how many came back to repair it for a second time. About 2, she said.

Am really NOT assured about the whole thing. Any thoughts?

I posted it here because I wanted to know if any Malaysian S100 owners had the same problem and what they did to fix it. So please share your experiences if you have the same problem with your S100!

EDIT: Summary of my experience:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

4th March 2012: Purchased camera in CamWorld, IOI Mall.
24th July 2012: First sight of lens error message. Fixed with a click of the On/Off button.
28th August 2012: Occurrence of lens error. Lens cannot be retracted.
29th August 2012: Sent it for repair at Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. at Peremba Square, Shah Alam. Drove there from Subang Jaya.
11th September 2012: Received as SMS from Canon, my camera is ready for collection.
12th September 2012: Drove to their headquarters in Paremba Square again to collect my repaired camera. Camera now working better than ever.

So I have a car with no Aux input, but I want to plug my iPod in.

The two viable options for me are:
1) FM modulator

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

2) Cassette adapter (I have a cassette player)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I'm not considering the FM modulator, since it will have inferior sound quality compared to the cassette adapter. Hence I'm going for the cassette adapter option, since I have a cassette player.

Problem is, I don't know where to get them. Does anyone have any idea? Car shops? Music shops? I live around the Subang area.

For those of you Dell laptop owners without a VGA port and with a Mini DisplayPort (click spoiler below for images), to connect to a VGA monitor or a VGA projector you'll need a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. Now the most common adapter you can find is from Apple, which costs RM 99.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Mini Displayport:
VGA port:

However that adapter is meant for Macs, and doesn't work all the time with Dell laptops.
Have you ever have to send your laptop(s) for a repair? Or did you just let it die and got a new one? Share your experience!

This survey could be very useful for new laptop buyers to decide on their warranty length.

I've never had a laptop (getting one soon though!), but I had a Dell desktop for more than 4 years before it just suddenly died completely. Warranty was finished, and so I just ditched it.

However it will only be available for ordering once it is released, there will be no pre-orders.

Personally I will be hoping that all of the parts will be in stock, especially the backlit keyboard and 1080p screen, which tend to be missing very often.

Useful links:
L502X on the Malaysia Dell website
L502X on the U.S. Dell website
Review of the L502X (Contributed by LYN user: [PF] T.J.)
Eric G's blog
Wikipedia on all Sandy Bridge processors
NotebookCheck on the 2820QM, 2720QM and 2620M processors
Wikipedia on the GeForce 500M series GPU
NotebookCheck on the GT 540M and GT 525M GPU

Looking for a drum teacher

I started taking drum lessons in July 2008. Bought my drumset during November/December 2008, thought I could learn by myself, so I stopped my lessons in January 2009. When I stopped I was almost finished with the RockSchool Grade 5 syllabus. Didn't take any formal examination.

I have not been taking any formal drum lessons since. I was in the percussion section in my school's marching band for over a year, and have converted from a matched grip player to a traditional grip player, even on the drum set.

I have just finished my SPM last month, and am now hoping to further improve my drumming with an instructor. I live around the USJ area.

QUOTE

Should be:

- Proficient in teaching and using the traditional grip
- Inclined towards jazz drumming.
- Able to teach and guide me till I complete the RockSchool Grade 8 syllabus.

If anyone can recommend me, or knows any good drum teacher around the Subang area who provides private drum lessons, please do PM me.

Or if you are a drumming instructor please PM me yourself as well.

Otherwise, any other help/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Foundation in Natural and Build Environments

I was just informed that I was not chosen for the 1st batch of NS. Hereby is the message:

QUOTE

TAHNIAH. MAKLUMAT PENEMPATAN AKAN DIMAKLUMKAN KELAK.

My plan was to finish SPM, go for my NS from January to March, and after that take the March intake for Foundations in Natural and Built Environments. Everything was according to plan until I found out I was not selected for first batch.

According to the website, there are 3 intakes: January, March and July.

My question is, what's the difference between the 3 intakes and what impact will your intake have in your future?

And not really because of the specs, but more to the form factor and the keypad.

See I'm not a fan of touch-screen phones, they feel unreliable, just IMHO. I've had a feel of this phone in a few Nokia shops and I am extremely impressed by the keypad. It's is very comfortable to navigate, and... I love it.

I'm also not a fan of 'mainstream' phones with fancy designs, anorexic shape and buttons that are impossible to press. This is what mobile phones are suppose to be, and THIS is what Nokia is best at making. Classic phone.

Brief specs:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

-Quadband
-Free GPS with Ovi
-3.2MP rear camera with LED flash
-VGA front camera
-3G
-2.2" screen
-NO WiFi
-50MB internal storage
-microSD up to 16GB, 2GB provided

I haven't got it yet, so I'm wondering, for those of you who owns this phone, how much did you get it for?
