Why 4X AGP Mobo can't support 8X AGP card!

Hi.

Recently I bought a 2nd hand Asus 64MB AGP 8x for my old pc, just wanna see the different after installed a AGP.

But unfortunately, my pc cant boot up after the AGP pluged in. The monitor screen is blank, the cpu fan is working, but nothing happened after waiting for several mins.

Then I checked the MOBO manual again ( I knew it is 4x AGP, but some website saids that 8X AGP can be used), I found another info, it saids MOBO support only 1.5V AGP.

My Mobo chipset is VIA, I have upgrade the driver. but still giving same result.

And my Mobo dont have PCI-E slot.

Can any sifu here help me? Should I buy another one 4x AGP? I think about G4 MX 440.
Thanks!

P/S: I have uninstalled onboard video drivers, set the Bios main display to AGP.
Please help me orz
