Myth 1

he Truth: Eggs do contain a substantial amount of cholesterol in their yolks—about 211 mg per large egg. And yes, cholesterol is the fatty stuff in our blood that contributes to clogged arteries and heart attacks. But labeling eggs as “bad for your heart” is connecting the wrong dots, experts say. “Epidemiologic studies show that most healthy people can eat an egg a day without problems,” says Penny Kris-Etherton, Ph.D., R.D., distinguished professor of nutrition at Penn State University. For most of us the cholesterol we eat doesn’t have a huge impact on raising our blood cholesterol; the body simply compensates by manufacturing less cholesterol itself. Saturated and trans fats have much greater impact on raising blood cholesterol. And a large egg contains only 2 grams of saturated fat and no trans fats. The American Heart Association recommends limiting cholesterol intake to less than 300 mg daily—less than 200 mg if you have a history of heart problems or diabetes or are over 55 (women) or 45 (men). “That works out to less than an egg a day for this population—more like two eggs over the course of the week,” notes Kris-Etherton.
I am sure you were, as I was, worried. When a Windows Phone 7 ad appeared that promised revolution, one felt several unnecessary revolutions in one's normally placid parts.

Boeing to showcase Dreamliner

Cheaper and farther
The 787's composite materials, along with a sharper nose and curved, upswept wings, promise greater fuel efficiency, quieter engines, and longer range. Indeed, the most powerful 787 model will be able to fly 8,500 nautical miles, which is enough to fly between Chicago and Sydney nonstop.
The Dreamliner program also represents a very specific vision for air travel. While rival Airbus built its A380 to fly 500 or more passengers between major airports in the traditional "hub and spoke" fashion, the 787 is designed for "point to transit" travel where a maximum of 290 passengers fly directly between smaller cities.
Inside the 787, passengers will see new features designed to maximize comfort on long flights. Among the amenities are higher ceilings, larger windows at eye level, electronic window shades, and LED lighting that will change during the course of the flight. What's more, the aircraft promises better air filtration, and a more humid cabin that will be pressurized at a lower altitude
How can docs refuse to treat a dying baby?
I REFER to “Seven-month-old baby dies after being left with babysitter,” (The Star, May 17).

It was stated that: “The father rushed his son to several nearby clinics but they refused to treat Mohd Rayyan, citing his condition as serious and he had to be taken to the hospital.”

What disturbs me most after reading this report is that doctors are refusing to treat a dying baby. Why do they refuse to treat someone critically in need of medical attention?

Aren't they supposed to serve those who need help?

I have been travelling around the world and I do not see such difficulties in times of need.

I asked my sister who is attached to a government hospital why doctors in clinics are reluctant to help in such cases. She replied that it was simply because the amount of paper work involved after the incident will be tremendous. Isn't this just plain laziness?

I really do wish the Government can take some action against these “irresponsible” doctors.

In my opinion, doctors who refused to treat this dying child could have caused his death.

If those doctors attended to the child while waiting to get help from the hospital, the child could have been saved.

I understand that the baby was abused by the babysitter which could have caused the death of the child but please do not ignore the seriousness of doctors refusing to treat this child when he needed urgent treatment.

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...77967&sec=focus

What Do You Think?
