Information to share for those want to know more about DIY pre-wedding and does not want to engage the bridal shop.

DIY Pre-wedding photo album

What is DIY pre-wedding photo album
Ans:
Basically, does not engage any bridal shop for the pre-wedding (or called as wedding album)
You yourself get your own photographer, makeup artist, designer, album printing company to do it at your own
You are the one who plan for everything including looking for location.

Why need to DIY
Definitely both have the prons and cons when compare to the bridal shop with the DIY
lets take a basic comparison on both bridal shop and DIY

Price
In general, DIY will be cheaper than the bridal shop but NOT always (So, please do some survey before engage any)

Bridal Shop
You will always hear people said that the bridal shop will have lot of hidden cost
eg.
When you sign up a package cost RM4K but end up the final with RM6-7K
Why?
There are many things that is not include in the package like you want the soft copies, need extra photo and need more selection of the growns
All this are the cost to your pre-wedding

DIY
Normally does not have the hidden cost once discuss with the person in-charge (normally will be the photographer)
Note: Although is DIY, please ask the person in-charge to have some black and white to avoid any dispute

Customization
Bridal shop will have a standard template and you might not able to a chance to request what do you want for your album
However, there is a good point of it because you does not need to worry on the final result as you can already see from their sample album.
In another method (DIY), you may discuss with the photographer and can have your own customization photo album style as the wedding album.

How to start

How to prepare for the pre-wedding
1: Look for the photographer
Ans:
Search online and look for your prefer photographer
Check on their online album for the sample, and also check on their review if any

2: Look for the makeup artist
Ans:
Search online and look for your prefer makeup artist
Check on their online album for the sample, and also check on their review if any

3: Looking for the grown
Ans:
You may buy online or rent from the shop
Normally, buy online is much cheaper than you get the rent

4: Choose the location that you want
Ans:
By now, you should know what are the style that you like to have for your wedding album.
Beach, mountain, city view and so...
Next, what you need to choose the location and you may search in google

5: After photograph session
Ans:
After the photograph session then sit down and relax and start looking for the printing company (You may do it before the photograph session)

How to reduce the risk of doing DIY
Doing DIY always will have a risk, as most of the freelancer does not have a actual shop
therefore, when you consider to have DIY there are some point you may need to take note to reduce the risk to the lowest

Before
1:Photographer
Ans:
Once you have selected the photographer, you can arrange to meet the photographer to discuss on your requirement (At least meet for the 1st time)
At this point, if you does not feel comfortable with the photographer that you selected then you may search again
If you decided to use the photographer, please discuss the payment term with the photographer and also ask the photographer to prepare the agreement.
Normally just pay deposit to book the photographer and the balance to pay after you have see the final result.

1st payment to book the photographer, would suggest discuss and pay around 10-20% of the final amount
balance to pay before get all the photo from the photographer, how to guarantee that you will receive the photo?
You may ask the photographer to have a look for the photo, they may send you all the photo with the watermark.
Is ok with the watermark at this point, because they will need to protect and make sure they can receive the balance.
Until you see the sample of the photo then you are quite safe to pay for the balance

2:Make up artist
Ans:
Do you need to meet with with makeup artist?
Yes and No, if you feel more conformable if you meet up with them then just do it else it is not necessary
If deposit is required, you may pay 10-20% to book the make up artist
Once the photograph session is over, you may pay the balance to the makeup artist on the actual photograph day

3: Grown selection (It is only for photograph, a lot of grown from china can do a good job)
Ans:
Buy Online
You may want to check on the review make sure the online store is exist.
If you plan to buy from China web site, you may use the agent and normally is quite safe

Rental
You may want to check out the real shop to have a look and feel

4:Printing company
Ans:
You are require to view some sample before you decide.
Album is important for a final stage, a good album will make your photo classy.
Hard Cover - Choose a good hard cover
Pages - Choose the type that you want for the pages surface

When to start
When do you need to prepare all these?
I would said around 6 months before your actual day.

Grown ordering to arrive at your house - around 2-3 weeks
Photograph - around 2-3 months (to confirm with your photographer)
Album Printing - around 1-2 months
