I need pointers on what to do about my 5k laptop

Short story, I went to a service centre. It's an "official" service centre as directed by the official website in Msia.

It's an Asus ROG machine. Went in for a keyboard problem. Switched on the fully-charged lappy and gave them the rundown of how the keyboard was malfunctioning. Told them where I'm from I don't have an Asus centre. Discussed mailing service maybe. None whatsoever. I'm like OK I will deal with that myself later. Dropped it off. Paid some money.

Had a friend go down that centre to pick up my lappy 2 months later so that I can courier it back to me. Lappy arrived. Battery totally dead. Somehow writhe with DirectX problems and probably more.

Now here's the problem. I paid this friend the price he quoted (about RM50 more than what the guy on the service centre counter quoted, I didn't think anything of it that time) to release that lappy to me but after that the receipt which he promised to mail to me with the lappy is "lost". That may be real, or I might have been bamboozled and my friendship sold for RM50. I admit my mistake for paying before seeing the receipt. The friend is conspicuously not talking to me anymore. Disappointment and extreme grief aside, I've e-mailed this service centre after clawing through the internet for their contact (that doesn't give out their contact details unless you deliberately dig for them), asking for the receipt after quoting my invoice number with a screenshot of the document which I have copied from the original for reference. No reply.

Now my laptop has these problems and I am confident 2 months of not using that battery is not fucking possible to render it totally dead (I received my laptop 2 months after the drop-off).

I heard that I can complain to some department for claims or compensation. Who has any experience in this? May I please seek help?

Thanks.

How long do you NOT use a battery for it to die?

Asus ROG, perfect battery before it went to service centre. 2 months later, pick-up, TOTAL DEAD. Took to an electrician of sorts and he said he was surprised such a good battery just went total dead.

I can light up a 3-year unused phone. How does this happen. Anyone has any track record of not using the battery for a time and it's unusable?

[attachmentid=9705421]

What happened to my battery? (Report included)

Dear Lowyatians,

Basically I've sent in my ASUS laptop for a keyboard problem, and I even switched on the thing to let him see what's wrong, and my laptop battery was working PERFECTLY FINE. So I decided to drop off the machine in the service centre and because I don't live in KL (which I was candid with them about because I was discussing mailing my machine), after about 2 months I've finally got around arranging a courier service + a friend to send it home to me.

Thing is, I KNOW the battery was fine, and now after replacing my keyboard, I received my machine with the same battery (I assume that it is since the sticker's serial number matches my machine's) that says "0% available, plugged in, charging".

I want to know what the hell happened. I've searched high and low and I've learned how to generate a battery report. I've copy and pasted it just to blur out the name and laptop model information for maybe safety purposes.

Can anyone tell me what the hell happened to my battery? I KNOW for a fact it was working like a charm when I've sent it in. Now the receipt is gone thanks to my friend but I have the invoice/bill when I was personally there to drop the machine off.

What happened to my battery, and what can I do about this?

Machine was sent in 9 February 2018. The machine's not in my possession until today, AKA 28 March 2018.

WHAT. HAPPENED.

Any Sabahan using KL internet?

I was starting up Guild Wars 2, and how this works is that when the launcher pops up, it'll ping you of the IP address you have and to authorize it. Well at my home network, the IP address was at like Kota Kinabalu, which is not where I live, but close enough, still in Sabah, right?

But when I booted up this game on lunch break in the office (which I don't know what internet provider they use; I think it's a monopoly anyway), SHAH ALAM, KL pops up. I'm like what the heck??

I am not that quick to put on a tin foil hat and say "spying!" but it's just interesting and I'd like to point that out. Any ideas what happened, my dear tech gods? (Needless to say I did not authorize the KL one. That's insane)

[attachmentid=5256605]

Benefits of soldered parts?

Nowadays the laptops' stuff seems to be soldered in, especially the CPU and GPU which one might change when they phase out (I am noob in electronics so please correct me if I'm wrong)

Yet most of the newer laptops are just soldered, soldered, and yet again, soldered. Is it a evil marketing strategy to force you to buy in short period of time, jack up service efforts and thus costs or does it offer any benefits at all?

And do unsoldered high-spec laptops even exist nowadays?

Please try to answer all, I wish to learn from the laptop gods, thankyou!!

A laptop for video, audio editing

Basically now I'm asking for my father.

1. Preferred Brand: My father heard that Apple is the best for this. So please suggest more on Apple Macs but also if others are better do pray, tell why.
2. Budget Range: NO budget. As long as fits his usage requirements.
3. Usage: Video, audio edit software, video rendering, music-production softwares... etc. in that area. He's a music guy.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Standard size. Like 14-less than 16? Not strict at all.

Any suggestions please? Thankyou!!!

EDIT: I've sent him this link so you might actually see a 50-something year-old man wandering around this forum. Thanks for your recommendations and please do leave behind any suggestions. He might quote a specific model for your verdict, but he's a busy man (aren't we all?) so do be patient?

Thankyou all!

A well-rounded laptop for everything?!

Hello. I have a beat-up Toshiba Satellite L510 that has served me well for years (As far as I'm concerned though, this seems to be some kind of faulty model since there's not many support software online specifically for L510), and I need to change to a new one before GST happens but I want something significantly better and long-lasting.

1. Preferred Brand: I'm a Toshiba junkie, but please, DO suggest anything else you find better than Toshiba. I don't know any better.
2. Budget Range: Anything around RM3.5k or preferably RM 3k or below. Cheaper is ALWAYS best. Anything that hits 4k is a no-no.
3. Usage: Basically everything. Ports to connect to presentation projectors...Work, study (basically the same thing), casual Photoshopping which I may pick up, and casual gaming for, say. A 3-D game like Darksiders and Killing Floor? Didn't play Darksiders yet but last time I installed it on my L510 it was IMPOSSIBLE to play. KF works fine though, but looking forward to it being smoother. But on the specifics, I wish to have a good experience playing on MOBAs. The last time I played Smite it was clunky and I wish for better. And Space Engineers. I want to play that smoothly.)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Anything about 15 inches or below should do fine.
5. Preferences: i7 processor and 8GB ram is very preferred. If i5 does not defer too much then it's fine too. 1TB storage if possible but it's not a strict requirement. And even though I'm no expert in this department, I would like NVIDIA as my GPU but again, it's not a strict requirement. AMD is still ok. The laptop should have a built-in mechanism to connect to WiFi (Don't know about this though, like it's been years since I've looked for a laptop so shouldn't all modern laptops now have this?). Battery should stay enough for decent amount of time, like an hour or so if I set it to work in low power on small stuff like Microsoft Word (Is that much?), I don't want heat issues.

Then again, I think I'm asking too much for a low price. I have NO idea.

Do the laptop gods and goddesses here know which brands are the best? I know Lenovo's new, so it's price is lower, Dell has better support by default, and I heard Fujitsu's great but it's hard to find support, and Acer, Asus and HP are all decent all-rounders. I like labels on everything so that's how I categorized them lol.

I think I've rambled enough like the girl I am but then again, please?

Business vs friendly lending+interest?

So there's this sitution where 1 guy lent a lot of money (more than 100k) to another guy, then another 30k to him after a period of time, and wants more amount upon repayment (so basically saying in a way want to charge interest?). So when is it business and when is it friendly money-lending? I guess when you borrow him the second time it is presumable to become business? Is the extra money upon return even allowed?

I don't know. I've been asked to study the Moneylenders Act and apply but now you have to have license to be considered as moneylender business and make the law apply to you. Is there any law that applies to just lenders without a that kind of business? And if they charge extra on return, does this charging of interest go against the law? Is it money-laundering? But Anti-Money Laundering Act doesn't apply because the pattern is bribery->self-gratification. The situation here seems to be far from that.

And this guy wanted extra money before upon return, but resumed to just wanting the borrowed in a new agreement/memorandum. But now he wants the 1st agreement's extra money return, and it isn't stated in his 2nd agreement now.

So should I apply anything or should I just reason with this as in contractually? Because if borrowing like this is against the law somewhere it's not gonna be pretty...

Sorry if I sound too dependant, it's because I AM kind of dependant. The two Acts were all they gave me and I have no access to any sources of Msian case law. Please assist if you can!

Printer won't print?

Hi. I have a printer that I don't use often, but when I do, usually for urgent things, it acts up on me >.<.

It's a MP145, and everytime I print it says that the paper is stuck or insert paper. But I've put in one sheet, a few sheets to a whole stack but it still happens.

The paper goes halfway into the printer but never prints, and then it says that my paper is stuck, which never was!

I'm tired of this and I hope to fix this on my own, which I think is possible, before going to any fixing outlets or such.

I've read another post about resetting the printer but I don't know how to do it, so if anyone has any suggestions or know specifically how to reset this freaking printer please!

Thanks in advance.
