Vincent Tan send Msian to train in Cardiff

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian youngster Tam Sheang Tsung is in for a rare treat – he will train with an English Championship club when he joins Cardiff City FC in March.

The 15-year-old Sheang Tsung will join the team currently in second position in the Championship, which is the second tier of league clubs behind the Barclays Premier League.

Welsh club Cardiff City was bought over by Malaysian business tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan last year.

Sheang Tsung also created history when he became the first Malaysian to be recruited into Japan’s J-League when he joined Division 2 side Yokohama FC in 2009.
Lucky lad: Sheang Tsung posing with Sagan Tosu chairman Ikawa Yukihiro (left) and Tan.

In 2010, he signed with another Division 2 club, Sagan Tosu, and has made a name for himself as the youngest footballer in Japanese professional league history.

Tan said he would sponsor Sheang Tsung’s three-month stint in Cardiff.

“This will boost his football career and enable him to be exposed to professional football.

“The boy has great potential and we are happy to support his ambition. The club believes in giving opportunities to young people, what more a Malaysian,” Tan said.

Sheang Tsung grew up in Tokyo, where his parents Tam Yun Tong and Ang Hui Chin have been running the Rasa Malaysian Cuisine Restaurant for the past 16 years.

He impressed talent scouts when he captained the Narimasugaoka Primary School team to a silver medal in the West Tokyo Tournament and was then picked to play for Yokohama FC’s Under-15 team in March 2009.

In August 2009, he attended an intensive course with the Sao Bernado FC Under-20 team in Brazil.

No orders to remove Christian symbols, says PM’s special assistant

PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister’s special assistant has expressed regret over reports that a church was ordered to remove Christian symbols during a Christ-mas gathering last year.

Datuk Hardev Kaur, in a statement yesterday, denied that she had issued instructions to remove symbols from the entire venue or barred the singing of Christmas carols and scripture recital during the event.

Hardev claimed she had only asked for the rostrum used by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to give a speech to be free of Christian symbols and artefacts.

“I did not give any directive not to sing carols at the function,” she said in a statement as reported in an online news portal.

Hardev stressed that her request for the removal of symbols from the rostrum was a suggestion on her own initiative and not that of the Prime Minister’s.

“If my request has led to any misunderstanding, I express my heartfelt regret,” she said.

The Council of Churches Malaysia Youth leader Daniel Chai has said hymns were sung and prayers performed during the event hosted by the Kuala Lumpur Archbishop Tan Sri Murphy Pakiam.

“The venue was the car park of the archbishop’s official residence, to create a marquee garden party atmosphere ... an unlikely place to find a cross,” he said in a statement.

He urged for all quarters to stop making the matter a political issue.

Various quarters had criticised Najib and Murphy, alleging that the Prime Minister and his aides had instructed that all forms of Christian symbols be removed from the event held on Dec 25.

Man sits in car for five hours to prevent it being

PETALING JAYA: A man whose car was about to be towed away by Petaling Jaya City Council officers for parking on a yellow line created a ruckus when he refused to get out of his vehicle.

"You can't tow my car with me in it. I won't get out," he insisted during the five-hour standoff.

The fiasco began about 12.30pm yesterday when credit services assistant manager Saravanan Abbu, 35, was having lunch at a restaurant in Section 8 when he saw council officers attempting to tow away his illegally-parked Honda City.

He rushed to his car and apologised to the council officers who were hooking up his car to a tow truck.

He pleaded with them to issue him a summons instead.

When they ignored his plea, and knowing a car cannot be towed with a passenger inside, he got into the driver's seat.

"I wouldn't have done so if the car was already hooked up to the truck and moving.

"I would have gladly acknowledged my fault and followed procedures," said Saravanan, adding the officers were only in the midst of hooking up the car to the truck and they could have considered his plea.

"They hadn't towed it yet, but still they wouldn't accept my plea for a straightforward summons, which is why I decided to sit in the car."

To break the impasse, police were called in.

"We were informed this standoff was causing traffic congestion. So, we urged both parties to go to the PJ police headquarters instead to settle the matter," said one of the police officers called to the scene.

He said police could not interfere in such a case as all they could do was provide security if things went out of control.

"The council has its own guidelines and rules. We can't interfere."

At the PJ police headquarters, both parties lodged separate reports on the incident.

The council officers alleged Saravanan was obstructing when they were carrying out their duties while Saravanan's complaint was against them attempting to tow away his car despite his early presence at the scene.

After an hour of discussion mediated by an inspector at the police headquarters, the matter was eventually settled with Saravanan paying a RM270 fine, after negotiating it down from RM310.

While these negotiations took place, Saravanan's colleagues took turns to sit in the car as he was afraid it would be towed while he was away.

Saravanan remains unhappy with the council and plans to take the case further.

"All I care now is I've got back my car and I need to get back to work."

Said council spokesperson: "We were only carrying out our duties following the rules. He was obstructing our duties and wasting our time.

"We had to call the police as Saravanan was adamant on staying in his car despite numerous attempts by our officers to explain our regulations to him."

GEORGE TOWN: Thieves who stole the statue of Dato Hijau from a temple here have been advised not to keep the deity as he is said to be fierce.

Thnee Kong (God of Heaven) temple caretaker cum spiritual healer Master Ong Q Leng said: “Those who took the fierce guardian, please take care.”

She said Dato Hijau was one of the six statues stolen from a temple behind the dilapidated Relau Villa Mansion here.

It was right here: Ong showing the altar where the stolen idols of deities were placed. The thieves have been warned to face the wrath of the fierce deity Dato Hijau if it is not returned.
She said she went to the temple at about 8am on Wednesday and found four of the six statues missing from the altar.

The temple houses the Jade Emperor, Mazu (Goddess of the Sea), Hai Loong Ong (Sea Dragon King) and Tua Pek Kong (God of Prosperity) deities.

The two other stolen statues of Dato Hijau and Dato Hitam were placed at nearby shrines.

Ong has lodged a report at the Jelutong police station

“Just place the idols back in their original place. I am not interested in taking any action.

“I just want them back,” she said here yesterday.

She said it was pointless for anyone to take home the statues, worth more than RM1,000, as the deities would no longer be around.

She said the statues were probably stolen by those planning to set up a new temple as the statues, especially the Hai Loong Ong, were hard to find.

Ong said she had sought replacements at many prayer paraphernalia shops on the island but was told that some would only be ready in six months.

National midfielder Jivan hopes to join the police

KUALA LUMPUR: National midfielder Jivan Mohan dream to become a police officer is likely to come true.

The 27-year-old Penangite, who plays for Sapura in the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL), was called up for an interview for the post of inspector last month. And he has undergone a medical test.

Jivan, who has a degree in Human Resource from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), said that it had been his childhood dream to be in the police force.

Looking forward: Sapura’s Jivan Mohan is hoping to get a job in the police force after he was called up for an interview for the post of inspector last month.
“I applied for the job after I graduated in 2008 and was only called up for interview last month. I hope to get the job. I am not working at the moment, just playing hockey for the national team and also Sapura,” he said.

Jivan, who has 140 international caps to his credit, added that he cannot be playing hockey for all his life.

“I need a job to earn a living, just like my brother Jiwa (an engineer in Perth),” he said.

“I am now depending on training allowance from the national team as well as from Sapura to survive. I pray that I will get the job.”

The lanky Jivan featured in the Junior World Cup Finals in Hobart in 2001 alongside elder brother Jiwa. He earned his first senior international cap in the Prime Minister Gold Cup in Bangladesh in 2001.

The brothers are not only in the national team but they have also featured for Sapura in the MHL since 2002.

Jivan said that he was happy playing for Sapura and believed that they had all the material to win the league title this time.

“We have an experience team who have been together for few years now and we have the ability to challenge strongly in the nine-team league,” he said.

Sapura chalked up an impressive 7-2 win over ATM Airod in the opening match on Dec 18.

They will play against defending league champions Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC) today and will take on Nur Insafi on Sunday.

Jivan said that KLHC, who crashed to a 0-2 defeat by Tenaga Nasional in their opening match, would pose a big threat to them.

“We have to play a cautious game against a side determined to collect their first three points. We hope to score first to put pressure on them,” said Jivan.

“If we can win both the matches this weekend, we will stray on top of the standings, I hope my brother, who scored two goals against ATM Airod will be on target again against KLHC.”

Jiwa will arrive today from Perth, hours before the match against KLHC.

'Policeman beat us up'

JOHOR BARU: A couple returning from a holiday in Cameron Highlands with their three sons claimed they were beaten up by an off-duty policeman after a misunderstanding at the Tapah Rest and Relax (R&R) area of the North-South Expressway on Sunday.

Lim Chung Keok, 34, suffered from bruises and lost seven of her teeth, while her husband Tan Khoon Hor, 35, suffered bruises all over his body and lost two teeth.

In the 5pm incident, the couple who lives in Kempas, were travelling with their sons, aged between 3 and 9, after spending the Christmas holiday in Cameron Highlands.

They had stopped at the R&R area as one of their sons needed to use the toilet.

As there was no available parking space at the time, Tan took their son to the toilet while his wife waited in the car.

He was away for about five minutes and while walking back towards his car, he saw his wife arguing with two men, one in his 30s, and the other, believed to be the father of the first man.

"I tapped him on the shoulder lightly to make my way back into my car. Suddenly, he punched me and my wife screamed for help. The younger man then told her to 'shut up'. When she didn't, he punched her on the face.

"When I said I would report the incident to the police, he took out a police authority card and flashed it at me."

With the help of Parti Rakyat Malaysia deputy chairman S.K. Song, the couple held a press conference at the Southern Chinese Press Club in Jalan Maju here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Perak police chief Datuk Shukri Dahlan confirmed that a report had been lodged about the incident by Tan.

Singapore Sexy Polo Team

Forget Sports Illustrated. The hottest swimsuit shots circulating on the Internet right now are of the Singapore water polo team in Guangzhou, the Chinese city hosting the Asian Games.

Apparently, Singaporean government officials are miffed at the trunks’ racy use of the national flag – in particular the phallic crescent moon, obviously.

The BBC reports that the country’s information ministry said: “Unfortunately, the team did not seek our advice on the use of the crescent moon and stars when they designed their swim trunks. We would have told them that their design is inappropriate.”

Two observations:

1. What about those Little Miss Muffet bonnets the strapping lads have to wear? Almost merits the players a free pass on the sexy trunks, no?

2. When was the last time the sport of water polo got this much attention? Aficionados of the game must be cheering. And since a country’s colours cannot be changed during the Games, watch for folk-hero status for the players as they continue to wear the suits. We expect to see knock-offs for the masses pronto.

China to take over North Korea

QUOTE

South Korea does not have an active nuclear weapons program. North Korea is believed already to have eight to 12 nuclear bombs. But nuclear issues aside, any military conflict between the countries could badly destabilize the region, especially if the North Korean government were to collapse -- an outcome that some South Koreans fear could lead to a Chinese takeover.

505

China ask N.korea to whack S.korea and in N.korea weaken state, China will come and take over N.Korea !
