W.T.Ask computer casing sizes

Hi. I have a cheap old ATX casing and i have installed 3 Hard drive now. I always leave some space between the HDD, so the hdd heat can escape. Now I plan to add another Hard drive and new casing that can fit more HDD, so I wonder if the hdd slot/height are the same for all ATX casings or I can choose bigger or higher casing so my HDDs wont need to crowd. Also if possible, please recommend a PC casing with budget less than rm150.00. Thank you.

Thai team accuses China organisers of cheating

Thailand's kayak team slammed organisers of the men's whitewater slalom event at the Guangzhou Asian Games on Sunday, accusing them of cheating and ignoring a penalty to get a Chinese kayaker into the medals.

China's Xian Jinbin was awarded the bronze medal at the event at the International Rowing Centre but appeared to hit one of the 260 metre course's gates, which would have resulted in a two-second penalty and his demotion to fourth.

Although a number of spectators said they had seen Xian hit the gate, the judges did not penalise him, angering Thai kayaker Hermann Ludwig Husslein, who finished the race fourth only 0.36 seconds behind.

"For sure they'll do anything to get their competitors a medal. They are like cheating all the time," he told Reuters.

"That's sporting life and the athletes can't change it."

The Thailand team said officials had obfuscated their attempts to protest the decision and would not allow them to view video footage of the race.

"The person in the protest office told me to wait. I waited a long time. Later they told me that I could not protest because I had not put in the form quick enough," team manager Chakchai Noihuahaad said.

China's Huang Cunguang won the slalom gold after scoring 88.15 with no penalties, ahead of Japan's Kazuki Yazawa on 89.83 seconds, who was handed a two-second penalty for hitting a gate.

The news conference was cancelled without any reason given. Officials contacted at the venue declined to comment, saying they were busy organising the tournament. The Chinese team said they were unaware of the situation and also declined to comment.

"You spend 20 hours a week in the water and training, and for this to happen is really disappointing," Husslein said.

The Asian Games run until Nov. 27.

http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/sports/th...ing_499193.html

High-tech car thieves

High-tech auto thieves
By Tim Leonard
PETALING JAYA (May 17, 2010): Some car thieves have gone high-tech, using computers to hack into the security system of expensive cars, including those with anti-theft keyless ignition technology.

In revealing this, police believe the syndicate can also hack into the GPS (global positioning system) security system and deactivate the immobilizer.

A Bukit Aman serious crimes division official told theSun the syndicate has been going around the country driving off several high-end cars with their expertise.

At least four cases were reported this year.

The official said based on information gathered, the thieves enter the car and use their own device to override the car’s alarm system by decrypting the security code.

In some instances, police believe the thieves used nothing more than a laptop to carry out their crime.

He said a special team is tracking down the syndicate members.

The official also said most high-end security systems are almost impenetrable and can deter theft, but since the thieves have the technical know-how, they can crack the software.

He added that the syndicate could have copied the same techniques commonly used by European high-tech auto theft syndicates.

In several cases of car thefts last year, car thieves who stole high-end cars had to break the windscreen to escape after the car they were driving in stalled in the middle of the road when the immobilizer was activated.

And some immobilizers can prevent the car's fuel pump from functioning, so the car will often run out of fuel metres from the crime scene.

At least two car thieves were believed to have been caught red-handed by police as they were trapped in their stolen vehicles.

Some advanced systems use satellite or mobile phone communication to alert a security firm that an unauthorized attempt was made to start a vehicle.

An immobilizer is an electronic device fitted to a vehicle which prevents the engine from running unless the correct key or token is used.

This prevents the car from being hot wired once the thieves gain access into it.

Immobilizers have been mandatory in all new cars sold in Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and other parts of the world.

Auto thefts involving keyless ignition system are also common in Europe. Thieves have reportedly driven off with high-end cars simply by using a laptop equipped with a microreader.

The thieves are able to capture and decrypt the code sequence from the signal emitted from the car itself. They then disengage the alarm, unlock and start the vehicle. -- theSun

http://www.thesundaily.com/article.cfm?id=46867

Eyjafjallajokull

Iceland’s volcano reports more explosive activities

STOCKHOLM: The explosive activity in the volcano in Eyjafjallajokull glacier in southern Iceland is reported to be increasing as the volcanic cloud has been larger and darker in color in the past few days, according to reports reaching here from Reykjavik.

A new report from the Icelandic Meteorological Office, cited by China's Xinhua news agency reported that the eruption activity also seemed to be increasing due to interplay between ice and lava in the Gigjokull glacial tongue or changes to the volcanic channel.

There is nothing that indicates the eruption is ending, said the report.

A steam cloud at the edge of the glacial tongue indicates the melted ice has heated up, Iceland Review said.

There was a dust storm in the area where the most ash had fallen below Eyjafjoll mountain range Sunday evening.

A red glow was seen at Gigjokull while lava flowed from the volcano have reached the end of the mountain.

A dense volcanic cloud filled with ash emerged from the clouds overhanging the mountains and blew across the farmstead of Raufarfell, while old ash was carried with the northwestern wind from the slopes of the mountains, blocking the view, the report said. - Bernama

KOTA KINABALU: The last of the Fokker 50s that served most airports in Sabah and Sarawak has been “put to rest”.

The aircraft, which made its last flight to the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here on Sunday, had a farewell do with the traditional spray of water at an emotional ceremony Monday.

MASwings replaced the Fokker with the brand new French-made ATR72-500 aircraft which will serve travellers to 22 destinations and 42 routes in Sabah and Sarawak.

The Fokker 50s have been used by Malaysia Airlines for its rural air service since 1989 and this was later taken over by the company’s subsidiary MASwings in October 2008.

The replacement of the Fokker aircraft by ATRs cost about RM700mil.

Launching the ATR72-500 named Libaran at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Peter Pang said: “This is a historic moment for us.”

With the phasing out of the last of its eight Fokkers, MASwings now has 10 new ATR72-500 aircraft that will serve various destinations in the two states.

Pang urged MASwings to consider expanding its services to the neighbouring East Asean Growth Area comprising Brunei, the southern Philippines and Kalimantan in Indonesia.

MAS chairman Tan Sri Munir Majid said MASwings was targeting to fly 1.1 million passengers this year.

THESTAR

Hitler “Downfall” Parodies Removed from YouTube

The movie studio responsible for the award-winning, German-Austrian film Downfall (German: Der Untergang) has asked YouTube to take down several videos from the massively popular subtitled “Hitler finds out…” meme, and the site has complied.

Search YouTube and you’ll still find hundreds of Downfall parodies, but click through to some of the bigger ones and you’ll now get the message, “This video contains content from Constantin Film, who has blocked it on copyright grounds.”

According to TechCrunch, the first Downfall parody to be taken down was the one about the iPhone 4G leak, but other popular parodies followed. At four million views, “Hitler Gets Banned from Xbox Live” was one of the most watched and thus among the casualties. The remaining videos might get taken down soon as well.

Each parody video takes a scene from Downfall in which Hitler throws a tantrum when he learns that he cannot win the war. Fake subtitles are then applied to make it appear as if he’s having a tantrum about something else. The topics have ranged from Michael Jackson’s death to Hitler learning that he’s the subject of an out-of-control YouTube video meme.

Downfall director Oliver Hirschbiegel told New York Magazine that he laughs at the parodies. “You couldn’t get a better compliment as a director,” he said. Unfortunately, Constantin Film’s legal team isn’t as easygoing about it.

sos

(AFP) – 1 hour ago

SYDNEY — It's a tiny misprint, but an Australian publisher has had to pulp a cookbook after one recipe called for "salt and freshly ground black people" to be added to the dish.
Penguin Group Australia pulped and reprinted about 7,000 copies of "Pasta Bible" after the typographical error was found in the ingredients for spelt tagliatelle with sardines and prosciutto, The Sydney Morning Herald reported Saturday.
"We're mortified that this has become an issue of any kind, and why anyone would be offended, we don't know," head of publishing Bob Sessions was quoted as saying.
Penguin said almost every one of the more than 150 recipes in the book called for salt and freshly ground black pepper but a misprint occurred on just one page, probably as a result of a computer's spellchecker programme.
"When it comes to the proofreader, of course they should have picked it up, but proofreading a cookbook is an extremely difficult task. I find that quite forgivable," Sessions said.
He said it would be extremely hard to recall the stock but if anyone complained about the "silly mistake" they would be given the new version.

Housewife asks for divorce after 8 years of abuse

A 25-year-old housewife lived through eight years of hell, being whipped by her husband almost every day for small lapses, or even when their children cried.

Her husband, a vegetable seller in Kulai, Johor, had told her the whippings were to teach her to become an obedient housewife, Harian Metro reported.

Her 26-year-old husband whom she married at the age of 17 would whip her with a belt for 10 minutes each time she forgot to pack fish and vegetables in their van, or if she was slow in feeding their children, now aged two and seven.

The woman said that as result of the whippings, she suffered injuries all over her body, particularly on her buttocks and thighs.

Every time a member of her family asked about the injuries she would lie, saying that she had fallen in the bathroom or hurt herself while doing household chores.

The woman, identified as Zarimah, said her husband forbade her from seeking treatment at a clinic or hospital, fearing that his actions would be discovered.

She said he had also forced her to borrow money from her grandmother to pay for his car. “He threatened to kill me and my children if I failed to get the money,” she said.

Not being able to take it any more, she fled to a neighbour’s house and has decided to ask for a divorce for the sake of her children.

> The daily also reported that police caught three burglars looting a house in Bandar Sungai Long in Kajang.

Kajang OCPD Assist Comm Mohd Sakaruddin Che Mood said a neighbour alerted the police upon seeing the three men behaving suspiciously at the house at about 11.53am.

The police arrived within five minutes and found the trio, armed with parangs, in the midst of putting their loot in a pillow case and a bag.

Police recovered RM67,000, four branded watches, two gold chains and two rings.
sos
Giant hammer head caught off NSW

A MONSTER hammerhead shark caught off NSW's northern coast could soon become a Queensland tourism attraction.

Famed Hervey Bay shark hunter Vic Hislop has bought the 1200kg, 5m monster and this week transported the amazing catch to Queensland.

The huge shark made headlines in northern NSW last month when it was caught by a fishing boat four nautical miles off the coast of Evans Head.

It had eaten a smaller shark hooked by the fishing boat and then became trapped itself.

At 5m long, the shark is longer than a family car and could probably comfortably fit a few family members inside its massive belly.

Researchers estimate the shark was at least 40 years old.

Speaking to The Courier-Mail, Mr Hislop said he had not decided whether to house the spectacular specimen at his Hervey Bay shark show.

"It's a magnificent specimen that's for sure," he said.

"I haven't decided what I am going to do with it yet though.

"If I keep it there (at the shark museum) I will freeze it first."

Some species of hammerheads are on the global endangered list, but they are rarely implicated in attacks on humans.

Although that would be of little comfort to someone faced with a shark bigger than most Great Whites, the most feared of all sharks.

And Mr Hislop had even more chilling news.

"That's not the biggest one I've seen either," he said.

"I've caught bigger.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/gian...9-1225853926465

New safety risks hit Toyota, Mazda vehicles

Thu Apr 15, 7:59 am ET
TOKYO (AFP) – Further trouble for Japan's auto industry emerged Thursday as embattled Toyota suspended production and sales of its Lexus GX 460 sport utility vehicle and Mazda announced a recall of 90,000 cars.
Toyota, the world's biggest automaker, said it would suspend production and worldwide sales of its Lexus GX 460 due to a rollover risk at high-speed, and would protectively conduct safety tests on all its SUVs.
Mazda Motor, which is part owned by US giant Ford, also said Thursday it would recall nearly 90,000 passenger cars domestically and in China due to an oil hose defect.
For Toyota, the move to halt production of the Lexus SUV for nine working days this month and suspend global sales came after US magazine Consumer Reports gave the vehicle a rare "Don't Buy: Safety Risk" rating.
"The company has decided to suspend the SUV's sales worldwide, which means also in Russia and Middle East after North America," said Toyota spokeswoman Mieko Iwasaki, before the company announced it would also suspend production.
Production of the Lexus GX 460 would be suspended at Toyota's Tahara plant in Japan, the only plant in the world that produces the model. Production of other models at the plant would not be affected, the company added.
In the latest blow to the auto giant's reputation, Consumer Reports said that, when pushed to its limits, the rear of the GX "slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability control system was able to regain control".
Toyota added it will work on identifying potential safety risks in the model which has sold 6,000 units, as well as its other SUVs.
"We are in the middle of analysing what the problem is. Once it becomes clear, the company will decide whether to recall and repair the cars," Iwasaki said. Concerned GX 460 owners will be offered a loan car in the interim.
The automaker will also "start testing all the other SUV models, including the Land Cruiser, Land Cruiser Prado and RAV 4," she said, adding that Toyota will continue to sell those models.
Toyota shares closed down 0.80 percent in Tokyo trade following the announcement.
Mazda, which vies with Mitsubishi for the rank of Japan's number four car maker, said it will start recalling 35,181 units in Japan and around 54,000 in China of the Mazda 3, known as the Axela in Japan, its most popular model.
The company said the cars, produced from January 2006 to March 2009, have been recalled because an oil hose and a radiator shroud panel have been placed too close together and may be damaged by friction when travelling on bumpy terrain, leading to potential leaks.
A company spokesman said Mazda received two complaints, both in China, and stressed that no related accidents had been reported.
The Mazda 3 compact car is widely sold in Japan, China and Europe but the recalled version is not available in the United States, said the company.
No decision had yet been taken if the recall will affect other regions such as the European market, the spokesman said.
The new developments illustrate the challenge for automakers to regain consumer confidence in the wake of Toyota's recall of more than eight million cars worldwide since late 2009, mostly for brake and accelerator issues.
Toyota, which overtook General Motors in 2008 as the world's top seller, has been bedevilled by a series of safety issues that have raised questions about whether it sacrificed its legendary quality to become world number one.
The recalls have caused an outcry in the United States, with Toyota executives hauled over the coals in the US Congress and the company's previously stellar reputation for safety left in tatters.
The automaker has been hit with at least 97 lawsuits seeking damages for injury or death linked to sudden acceleration and 138 class action lawsuits from customers suing to recoup losses in the resale value of Toyota vehicles.
The company faces a record 16.4-million-dollar fine in the United States for its failure to notify authorities quickly about vehicle safety problems.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100415/bs_af...mV3c2FmZXR5cmlz
