Hey guys~!

Currently, I've a fix budget (RM1400) to buy a notebook (not a desktop). I don't mind whether it's either mini or the big one~ can you guys suggest me the best can I get within this budget?

I'm not a gamer (only play minesweeper lol~! )~ so, i don't really care about the graphic card used. I'm going to use the notebook mostly for programming and play around with systems like installing VMware and so on~

can you guys suggest me any notebook you guys think should be the best for me and within my budget? and rough price as well~

How To Crop Image of A Man?

hey guys,

I have snapped a photo of my brother and plan to crop his entire body to paste it onto the background i designed. the problem is, i can't get a quality crop especially around hair's area... does anyone of you have any tips for that?

How To Choose The Best AntiVirus?

Hey guys,

these are common questions:
"can you suggest me the best antivirus?"
"does anyone know, which antivirus is the best?"
"stupid avira... any other av cn i use?"
and a few more questions which are just the same...

these are some comments which i often receive from any places:
"av to berat lah~ x bagus langsung!"
"av tu lembab lah scan"
"av tu x bagus sbb makan saiz besar sgt"
"x payah lah guna av tu... x abes2 nak kena update je..."

actually, those comments are too general and should not be used to measure the ability of any antivirus. don't look at internet security products... we discuss only antivirus which remove viruses in our local PC. the smaller the scope, the better discussion we will have. to make it short and simple i'll put those in FAQ format.

------ FAQ ---------

1. Antivirus Berat?
what you mean by berat? It is too general and it can be anything... either you mean that the size is big... or slow scanning process... or else~

2. Slow Scanning Process
this does happen in a few antiviruses. actually, slow scanning process doesn't show that it is either good or bad. what i mean by that? Slow scanning process can be caused by stupid algorithm be implemented in the antivirus. on the other hand, it can also be caused by the av is doing a deep scan in your PC. so, this is quite hard to measure~! sometimes, fast scanning process can also be caused by stupid algorithm used. it might skip any zip files and etc. but there are also some antiviruses able to do fast scanning + do deep scan in your PC.

3. Big Size
Size does matter... for some reasons, i'll consider this to choose the best antivirus to be used. Since it'll take some spaces in my HDD, i should aware of it. last time, my dad ever bought Norton 360 which took a lot of spaces from his HDD. an old computer actually but using win xp although it's a good product, for my dad's used, it's not really efficient.

4. Many Updates
If you hate to do any update, it doesn't have much different if you remove your av. lol! Update can be done for 2 things. Either updating the av application or updating virus database. When we call it as an update; that mean the file we are downloading is required to make our current av become much better compare to wt we hv in our pc rite now. Hwever, most of the times, updates will be done on your virus database. as virus keep on being produced everyday, so; you should keep on doing update. at least, once a week is enough~

The fact:
If neither factors be considered, so what else we want to use to look for the best av? for your information, virus database contains virus signatures. that's how your av recognizes whether a file is either contains virus or not. The larger database you have, the more virus can be detected. now, it sounds good, huh! however, sometimes you might have a huge virus database... but the problem is, those virus signatures are quite old. so, as the conclusion; we can say that: we need a huge virus database which has latest virus definitions.

errkk~! i found myself quite sleepy rite nw i think, this is enough... at least, i can fix some ideas which are often be used by people to choose for best antivirus. anywhere, if you've any question regarding this, you may ask anything~ however, pls note that i don't want to start a new thread to discuss for the best antivirus... if you want to discuss about that, pls visit this thread:

Does RAM Really Speed Up a Computer?

Hello folks

this is common to us... we always think that RAM is used to speed up the computer. me too~ i was thinking the same thing before since i heard that from many people especially those from Lowyat (not this forum... i mean, the real big Lowyat )

anyway, it may speed up the computer a bit. but is it going to make a big change on the speed? actually, i'm not trying to fix the idea which we learn since long long long time ago. the only thing... since currently i'm taking Computer Organization class i don't think it is...

i learned that those cycles happened in our computer are actually control by the CPU. that's why, people keep on enhancing the technology applied on the CPU and that's why... now we have cache and etc.

as i know (my lect told me), the reason cache was developed; RAM is considered as too slow for the CPU to retrieve data. there is no way to enhance the technology applied on RAM since it's just a stupid simple board made of SRAM. the intelligent was actually be implemented on the CPU. that means, RAM can't really speed up the performance of a computer. Besides, it's used only to store those data and instructions for temporary.

i guess, u also must had listen either of this dialogue :
"computer u slow ka bos? tambah RAM maaa... confirm laju punya~"
"u punya RAM 2GB? try tambah sikit lagi..."

so, what actually they mean by; RAM can speed up a computer?

monitor: no signal?!

Hey guys

I own an Acer Aspire 4516. This morning, my monitor couldn't display anything~ i did a few experiments and couldn't found anything wrong with my stuffs. It mentioned that it received no signal from the CPU.

I taught:

1. problem with my monitor
I tried to plug it with my friend's laptop and it works!
2. problem with my cable
Instead of using the same cable, I tried to use other cables and all didn't work. I also tried the cable I used with other computer and the it also work.
3. problem with graphic card
I unplugged the graphic card and straight plugged my cable to the motherboard. Still... didn't work~

I think, I tried almost all the things needed for the monitor to receive the signal from the CPU and display the output. Anyone ever faced the same problem before? What should I do? The important thing is... why this happen?
