How to succeed at work!

Hi all,

I notice a lot of thread talking about the working environment, salary and how to apply to X job but nothing on how to succeed. Can any one share their life/working stories on how they started from the bottom and what you did to succeed and reach the top or get promoted? Beside the usual KPI and personal skills can any one elaborate a bit more on these issue. Ultimately the path that takes you to the top ie CEO/CFO/COO.

Opinion on your University Career Office

Hey all,

I had a very interesting conversation with a friend about out respective university's career office/counsellor. As I graduated locally while he graduated oversea and when we compare the amount of advice and help offer by our respective counsellor, it makes mine look like a useless person taking space.

So I would like to ask for everyone opinion on their respective career counsellor, especially fresh graduate and whether they use the service. Here is mine :

I personally found mine not useful at all. She didnt offer to look through my resume, just keep on insisting I should follow this template (she got it from jobstreet). As I obtain less than 3.5GPA, I was asking her for advice on how should I position myself to apply to those MNC especially where you need a min of 3.5. She just told me to apply, if I get I get, dont get dont get. When I asked for advice on investment banking application process she basically said she didnt know and ask me to research online.

Master for an investment banking career

Hi, I'm thinking of doing a master but due to my borderline case I don't qualify for the top notch uni and I'm interested to persuade a career in investment banking. Here a list of question if any one can help me out or offer any advice.

1. Is it possible to apply for a Master in finance and used it to apply for a MBA in OxBridge or Ivy?
2. Where is the cheapest country to do a master? I know Germany/Sweden offer really cheap programmes but you need to know the local language
3. Beside Master in finance, what else for I look out for if I want to work in an investment banking environment? I was considering to do a Master in Financial engineering and Mathematics.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated!

HSBC Management Trainee

Hey, I've been going through the whole forum can't seem to find any up to date information regarding HSBC Management Trainee Programme or Management Development Programme (MDP). Any stories or suggestion to share?

As far as I know, I have a friend who was called in for an interview. But he admits he used a bit of connection to get it. On the other hand I've been hearing a lot bout CIMB programme. Could it be that HSBC is really hard to get in? Or CIMB is way cooler/better than HSBC till the point no body talks about it?
