From Windows to Mac OS X

Guys and gals, there has always been a lot of user tempted to jump from Windows to Mac, but most of them hesitated as they think that it's a whole new world for them to re-learn everything they know about "computer"... I'm one of them actually. 1 year ago I was tempted by the specs of Macbook Pro with Retina Display, but I was wondering whether I can really make the "leap of faith" to jump into a whole new OS platform. But after much consideration and fed up with Windows... I decided to take a gamble. And ever since then, I have never look back. For me, Mac OS X is a much better operating system in whole, although I do admit sometimes things are a little easier for Windows than on a Mac, but all in all, one will surely get to love it if you are willing to spend some time learning it, stay with it, and live with it.

Ok, enough of the non-sense sharing. So what I'm trying to do here is to create a platform of discussion for those who are interested to jump-ship from Windows to Mac. There's always google out there, but I know sometime people is just lazy or they have no idea how to google the information they need. So I'm planning to put down a summary/comparison here of the things you need to know when jumping from Windows to Mac. Here are some of the titles which I'm planning to write into, and for those experienced user out there, feel free to contribute by PM me or reply to the question posted by others, I'll try to include as much as possible here into the main posting, and hopefully this will help you to decide whether or not to switch to Mac, and for those new Mac user, hope this will let you adapt to the new environment easier and faster.

I will continue to develop this thread, so please give me some time before everything gets into order. Till then, hope this thread will bring some help to all the Mac users out there. Thank you and have a nice day!

1.
Video drop when streaming from my NAS

First of all i would like to thank all forumer for giving me advise on setting up my home network previously.
Now everything is set in place, but I'm still having some glitches in streaming video and need some advise from all sifu here.

My current setup:
Philips TV connect LAN to TM Net Unifi wifi router (the white orange one)
MyBook Live NAS connect to TM Net Unifi wifi router (the white orange one)
Media player connect to TM Net Unifi wifi router (the white orange one)
All connected using LAN cable (cat 5 or cat 5e cable)

Media player able to detect MyBook Live, manage to view the content and play it on the tv. But sometimes playing half way it may drop off... seems like it cant detect the NAS, for a moment but then everything backs to normal. This is annoying sometimes when watching movie...

My question is, what can possibly be the reason for this issue to occur? due to the media player? due to the LAN cable? Due to the MyBook Live? or Due to the Unifi router?

Thanks in advance...

Problems surrounding my laptop hard disk

Hello, I'm new to this forum and I hope I can get the advise I'm needed here.

My laptop is Compaq V3700 series, with Intel Core 2 Duo with Samsung 250GB HM250JI SATA hard disk. Originally my laptop runs Windows XP Pro SP2. I need to use a program for my study but it can't be install in the XP. I end up installing Windows 7 in this laptop and everything works fine, the program can run smoothly in Windows 7 without problem at all.

My hard disk is initially partition as 80GB for C: and the rest for D:. I decided to resize it, so I used Paragon Disk Manager to resize my C: to 50GB to increase the size of my D: drive. It turn out that the program failed to resize my hard disk, end up corrupting some of the files in my D: drive. I formatted my D: drive and everything is back to normal again. My laptop is functioning well for about 1 month in Windows 7 until yesterday it suddenly blue screen and restart by itself.

Every time when booting windows, a black screen appear stating "SMART test failed. Please press F10 to perform disk check or press F1 to ignore". I try to run the disk check but it failed to run. However I'm still able to load Windows by pressing F1 key. The problem get even worse, when I try to copy or move files between Drive to Drive, the blue screen stating "kernel data inpage error" with "stop 0x0000007A (0xc0415490 0xc0000185 0x268ef860 0x82a92f77" appear and my windows will restart automatically after the memory dump. This blue screen and black screen problem keeps on bothering me, until I decided to reformat the whole hard disk again.

I formatted the whole hard disk and try to install Windows 7 again. When selecting the partition to install the Windows, when I select C: drive as the desired drive to install the OS, a warning message pops out below stating "this partition may fail soon. Please select other partition". The same goes to my D: drive. I ignored the warning and installed Windows 7 into my C: drive and the blue screen and black screen problem still exist. Furthermore, Windows keep on popping out alert stating "hard disk may fail soon. please backup immediately."

Does anyone who what is the problems with my laptop here? I searched forums and discussion through the web, some say is hard disk failure, some say is motherboard, some is firmware, driver and etc. I really appreciate any kind of help as I'm urgently need to get it fix for my study. Thank you.
