Hollow Ceiling

So I recently purchased an apartment, and due to the staggered design of the building, my unit isn't the highest floor but it the highest at one of the sections with a roof over it. So while I was checking out the empty unit to see where to place lighting, etc. I knocked the ceiling with the tape measure and it sounded hollow. I didn't think there was plaster ceiling before so I continued tapping across all over the house to check. What I noticed was that the "hollow" sound was mostly in the inner part of the house and as we approach towards the balcony and window area the sound of the ceiling becomes more "solid", meaning concrete. I'm a bit confused. Is this normal for top floor units or is this something to be concerned about? The previous owner stayed in this place for about eight years dy, and when didn't mention anything about it.

Discuss: Pearl Avenue or Tiara Park Homes?

Both are around the same price range, with Tiara Park Homes costing slightly more. It's newer but seems like a lot of complaints. Pearl Avenue on the other hand has appreciated so much since its launch price, and has a lot of foreigners around that area. I also see a lot of Casa Villa owners selling their units now (condo next to Pearl Avenue) - not sure if that's a good sign.

If for own stay (and possible appreciation over time), which one is better in terms of amenities, community, management, security, value, RA, etc.?

The solid top just means the sound gets better over time.

Reason for sale: Traveling much for work and have been leaving it behind. Looking to downsize to a travel-sized guitar (anyone wants to trade+top up also welcome).

Personal view: This guitar has a very bright sound. The action is not that low (can be altered easily), but the slim neck makes playing very comfortable for people with small hands (like me). This Yamaha has served me very well over the past few years, and I'm just looking for a good owner to take over. I'm not in need of money, so I will not entertain low-ballers. Thank you.

Acoustic Guitar Recommendations?

Hi sifu-sifu sekalian,

I currently have a Yamaha FX370C, but I'm thinking of selling it (I move around a lot nowadays, if anyone's interested can ask me) to get something slightly smaller in size (I like the GS Mini but it's a bit pricey and somehow I feel like there are some guitars out there that can match it at a lower price). What I'm looking for is:

Budget: Less than RM1.5k
Preferred type of sound: Mellow-ish, something like those mahogany top guitars produce (The Yamaha was really too bright for me)
Action: LOW (This is important to me, I have very short fingers, lol, and I'm trying to improve my riffs)
Pick-up: Not necessary, but if got, then it'll be great for jamming sessions

Any recommendations? Apart from those high-end and famous Taylor, Martin, Takamine, I know there are some "unsung heroes" that are still to be discovered.

On a second note, how much should I price my current Yamaha for? I got it for about RM1.2k few years ago, and it's still in good condition. A few minor chips at the edge of the headstock, but still sounds beautiful, especially with the pick-up.

Appreciate all your incoming feedback!!!

[WTA] EF-S 15-85 vs. Sigma 17-70 vs Tamron 17-50

Hi all,

I have an old 400D, whose kit lens are quite crappy, but I've been using all the while. Recently, the kit lens won't work anymore and I thought it would be more worth it to buy a replacement instead of getting it repaired. Here's the thing... I don't know which lens to get! I have a 50mm f1.8 which is an excellent cheap lens, and a 55-250mm (which is collecting dust). I dab in most range of photography; close ups, landscape and street photography. I use my 50mm quite a lot (esp. indoors) but I still like the general range my kit lens provides. So here are my thoughts:

1. EF-S 15-85mm: The IQ looks amazing, and the range is quite sweet as I get a bit of the wide-end, and it's slightly longer than the general 18-55 kit lens. But it's quite pricey, even secondhand.

2. Sigma 17-70mm: I read mixed-reviews about this one. What I like is the sort-of macro capabilities this lens has and the f2.8 end. The only problem is, I hear that the quality of the Sigma is inconsistent - it's more of a hit-and-miss thing.

3. Tamron 17-50mm: Oh the endless debate on VC vs non-VC! Some of my friends recommended me to get this, but I'm not entirely sure. The range seems a lil short for street shots, which is a problem I faced with my previous 18-55 kit lens.

4. EF-S 18-135mm: I like the range. I do. But what about the IQ? I know it will definitely be better than the 18-55mm from the 400D (any lens would be) - but I'm not sure if it's worth buying.

So.... I need opinions from the sifu-sifu out there.... Thanks...

Hi all,

Need some advice and opinions from the sifu-sifu's here. How much do you think, a 3 year old rig as of below would be worth now?

------
CPU: Intel i7-920 8M Cache, 2.66GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5770 1GB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI Display Port
RAM: A-data 6GB A-One Gaming RAM 1600 Mhz (2x3)
MOBO: ASUS P6T Intel LGA 1366
PSU: Corsair CX600
CPU Cooler: Xigmatek Balder
Hard Disk: 1TB 32M WD Caviar Black
Wireless Adapter: Asus USB N-13
------

Would be even more helpful if you could appraise each item so I can see the value as a whole. Thank you very much for your time and help!

Win 7 fail to start up successfully

Hi all,

I've installed Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my PC, and it was running fine until one fateful day I had to do a forced shut down as it wasn't responding.

That's where the problem started.

It first tells me that Windows failed to start, and asked me to choose between Startup Repair or a normal Startup. I chose Startup Repair, it loaded some files and proceeds to give me a blank black screen.

I restarted my PC again, this time choosing to Start Normally, and the progress hung at the Startup Screen.

I tried booting from my dvd, and after showing the loading of files, again, it hangs at the Startup Screen.

Any ideas? I thought maybe I could reformat it but seems like the dvd itself wouldn't load properly....

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Hi all,

I was just wondering if I could use the installer from those pirated DVDs just for installation, but use my original CD key to install Windows 7? Will it still be considered genuine?

Probably a dumb question for some, but I need to know. Thanks.
