Can we transfer US stock sale proceeds to Malaysia

If we sell our US stocks and wish to transfer our capital gains back to Malaysia, will BNM block it under our money laundering laws? Im concerned the funds will be allowed in but we will be unable to touch the funds.

Has anybody successfully transferred funds from the US stock brokerages to Malaysian local bank accounts this year? If so, what amount and were there any problems? Please advice.

IBKR LLC to Maybank Malaysia

I tried making a fund transfer from IBKR to Maybank but was told that i need to get a Correspondence Bank in order to make the transfer. The Maybank SWIFT code isnt accepted by IBKR. I called and spoke to Maybank and they couldnt provide a solution.

Has anybody here done such a transfer from IBKR to Maybank? Please advice.

TD Ameritrade - Closing of Retail Accounts

With the new announcement of the closure of retail accounts that arent under Accredited Investor status, has anybody managed to:

1) Transfer existing stock positions to other US brokers like IBKR?
2) Withdrawn their cash balances from TD to their own banking accounts?

Ive submitted requests for both last week but have yet to get any response.

Best US Stock Investment Platform

Ive been in the US stock market since 2019. Right now all my funds are in TD Ameritrade (Singapore). Im just concerned about leaving everything on just 1 platform since ill be holding for the next 20-30 years.

Do you guys split your US stock investments and if so what other good and stable alternatives are there? I dont want those fly by night type of platforms like Robinhood, etc.

Three MLM Scam

Have you guys heard of Three? They claim to be brand new but in reality Three is not original. From Monavie MLM it split to Visayo and Jeuness. Visayo then developed into Three while Jeuness still maintained. The current big guy in Three was formerly the No 3 in Vasayo.

They even claim to have a sticker which activates stem cells in your body. People who required knee replacement surgeries have 'miraculously' recovered while some who were in wheel chairs can now walk.

TD Ameritrade for US Stocks Investment

I am a stock investor (not trader). I have been purchasing US stocks and ETFs via Maybank Investment Berhad for the last 3 years. There is a USD25 fee for every buy/sell transaction which is quite high. Lately i managed to register a TD Ameritrade stock account in Singapore because i understand there is no charge to purchase US stocks but there is a charge for fund transfers.

To those who are familiar with using TD Ameritrade for US stocks, i have a few queries:

1) What is the best and most cost effective method of fund transfer from Malaysia to TD Singapore? I understand bank to bank wire transfer fees are quite high. What about Instarem? What are the feels involved?

2) Is it safe to keep my stock investment long term in TD Ameritrade Singapore? My investment holding period is expected to be 10-20 years

3) Do TD Ameritrade limit buying or selling for any reason? I don't want to be in a similar position as Robinhood who throttled / controlled purchasing/selling of stocks at certain times.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi all, ive been away from the Lowyat Forum for some time. Interested to start looking into good properties in KL again. Im seeking small units approx 1000sf or below at prime areas preferably near MRT/LRT stations preferably not more than RM600 per sq feet. Im targeting capital gain with a decent rental yield in the mean time.

I already have 4 condos so looking to expand my portfolio with 1 more good buy.

Im keen on long term holdings not trading stocks for short term gains.

I engaged Alan in May this year after listening to some good feedback here on LYN. His quotation was also the lowest among 6 contractors which I surveyed. I made the advance payment of 15% on 15 May 2017. Since then work has proceeded reasonably well. Alan has also been quite helpful and had most of the criteria you would want in a contractor.

But over the past 2 months, his work progress deteriorated. His workers work on and off. Sometimes only 1 or 2 guys at the unit. Sometimes no work at all. Other days he only starts after lunch thus losing half day of work. And now since last Friday 3 Nov 2017, he has gone completely AWOL. No workers at my unit and his handphone is completely switched off. He is supposed to finish my current condo unit by this Friday 10 Nov and start work on my 2nd unit on 13 Nov 2017. Looks like this won't happen.

Now im hearing that some of you have also had bad experiences with Alan in the past. So I would appreciate if you could share your experience, timelines and what you did to overcome the problem. I think that would help me (and others) in our next course of action.

I am looking to do some minor work on 2 condo units (in Bukit Jalil and Damansara):

Work scope as follows:

Bukit Jalil Unit

1) Install 3 way LED lights for plaster ceiling
2) Supply & install curtains for 3 rooms & hall
3) Install cabinet doors for wet kitchen concrete counter
4) Removal of previous contractor's rubbish

Damansara Unit - 1356sq ft

1) Plaster ceiling for hall and rooms with 3 way LED lights
2) New medium size walk in closet for master bedroom
3) New dressing table for master bedroom
4) Hack existing tiles for master bedroom & install new
5) Remove and replace wooden door frames for master bathroom and kitchen door
6) Remove existing master bedroom windows (3 panels) and replace with thicker windows & better soundproofing
7) Repainting of whole unit

I want contractors that are:

1) Experienced in condo renovation with proven track record (pics)
2) Have done work in Damansara / Bukit Jalil before
3) Have high standards of finishing quality especially for paint and tiling works)
4) Have sufficient labour force to complete job in max 2 weeks.
5) Have good 3rd party contacts for curtains & wardrobe (better if in house)

I am very particular about quality and works programme and im familiar with general construction pricing. To reno contractors who are interested, please post your general experience, value of work u have undertaken and area of coverage in the comments section below. Do not PM. I will PM those whom I think are good.

Those who want to recommend good contractors pls ensure they are ones which you have used before personally and not just based on 3rd party info.

Facing a dilemma here.

Quill PJ is offering the F10 520i at RM295K (minus insurance & road tax) together with free Llumar tint and GYEON ceramic coating.

That's a 72K discount from the original price of 367K.

Should I go for a 2015 year end manufactured model or wait for the 2016 model with (no or much less discounts). Also keeping in mind the new G30 5 Series will be launched early 2017.

Thoughts please?
