Carriage Return from RS232

Teeny tiny weenie problem;

when i fetch data directly from RS232 (Serial Port) in ASCII and display them in VB, all i get for Carriage Return is □. Yesh, the symbol of a box. i tried identifying it with ControlChars.Cr using ToString() but it couldn't work. Any comment on this?

for those who are who are not so familiar with serial communication, the input from comm port 1 looks like this;

Tx +++
Rx OK□
Tx ATCN□
Rx OK□
...

so on and so forth.
