Zuraidah's education credentials now being called out on social media

PETALING JAYA: After the education credentials of Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Marzuki Yahya were questioned, Zuraida Kamaruddin has now come under scrutiny on social media.

The Housing and Local Government Minister's science degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS) has been questioned by Twitter user Don Juan deRyezal.

"Assalamualaikum YBM @zuraida_my. Kami gagal menemui carian nama YBM di National University of Singapore. Mungkin tercicir agaknya? (We were unable to find your name in the NUS. Could it have gone missing?)" he wrote.

The tweet included a Bernama infographic, which stated that she had obtained a social science degree from NUS, while well as the university's online degree verification portal, which yielded no results in a search for the PKR vice president's name.

A check by The Star on the same web portal yielded the same result.

JOHOR BARU: Scratching sounds on the windows of an apartment well above the ground level. A swing moving by itself with a mysterious long-haired figure in white standing beside it.

These and other eerie signs have some residents of the new Fire and Rescue Department quarters in Kempas here worried that the area is haunted.

The department held Yaasin and tahlil recitation at the quarters on Sunday although a spokesman said it was not taking a serious view of the “sighting”.

Word of the purported haunting spread quickly with a 25-second video making the rounds on social media showing the empty, moving swing and white-robed figure.

In the video, a child’s voice is heard saying “Buai takde orang” (There’s no one on the swing), as it moves back and forth.

Checks by The Star found that the swing is in a playground beside several multi-storey apartments with a surau nearby.

It is learnt the video was recorded by a resident at the quarters, where it is believed the incident happened in the late evening.

One resident, who declined to be named, said he had experienced “weird incidents” since moving in a few months ago.

“I live near the playground. Sometimes, at night, I hear someone or something scratching on the windows of my unit,” he said.

“This is impossible because there is no way anyone can climb up that high in the dark.”

Another resident, who also did not want to be identified, said she had not experienced anything supernatural.

“There are still some vacant units. Hopefully, when more people are living here, the ghost – or whatever it is – will leave the area,” she said.

Johor Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Mohamad Riduan Akhyar said occupants of the department’s quarters have yet to mention the “extra resident”.

However, he added that the department had taken several steps after the video went viral.

“We conducted special prayers there last Sunday,” he said.

Mohamad Riduan said it could just be a coincidence that someone wearing white happened to be nearby when the clip was recorded.

He added that the quarters’ occupancy is currently at about 80%.

Manny Pacquiao and Lucas Matthysse agree to July 8 fight in Malaysia

Manny Pacquiao and Lucas Matthysse have verbally committed to a July 8th fight in Kuala Lumpur, Malayasia according to a report by RingTV. And while Pacquiao’s team has recently asserted that their deal with Top Rank has expired, the promotional company is expected to be involved in the fight — just not in the lead promoter role.

Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions will take the lead in this fight with Top Rank expected to handle US distribution via its ESPN deal. Golden Boy, who handles Matthysse, is also going to be in the mix as well.

The fight is anticipated to take place early morning on July 8 (Malayasian time) so that it can be aired primetime in the US on Saturday night (July 7).
