Ram for MacBook

Hi, I am intending to purchase the Apple MacBook 2.4. As it's only comes wif 2GB ram, I would like to upgrade to the max, 4GB. However, the sales person qouted me bout 600++ after trade in my original 2GB ram (1GB x 2) which i find it's quite expensive.

Can I just buy the normal notebook 2GB x 2 ram to install it at the Apple Macbook? I am confuse here as some said it can be install but the Apple sales guy told me that if I install the other brand, it will make the Apple Macbook to become unstable. Can it really do that ? He said, the 4GB (2GB x 2 ram) that he qouted me is tested on the Apple MacBook and it's stable and worry free.

So, please advise me whether to get the ram from the Apple shop or I just buy my own ram outside which is alot cheaper too.

Thanks.

Regards,
