KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 — City Hall (DBKL) has urged residents and delivery riders to treat public housing amenities with care, following a viral video showing an individual riding a motorcycle into a People’s Housing Project (PPR) lift.

The closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, which circulated widely across social media, sparked public outrage over safety hazards and property damage. Neither the identity of the rider nor the precise location of the building has been independently verified.

In a statement, DBKL did not call out the individual but addressed the broader habit of rolling motorcycles and electric scooters into residential elevators to expedite doorstep deliveries.

“DBKL understands the demands of a food delivery rider’s job and appreciates their role in making city life easier.

Taliban bans sight restoring eye surgery

🇦🇫 The Taliban has ordered hospitals in Afghanistan to stop performing corneal transplants, declaring the sight-saving operations contrary to Islamic teachings and potentially condemning hundreds of patients each year to preventable blindness.

The directive has halted transplant programs in Kabul and Jalalabad, where a US-based medical charity had recently helped train Afghan surgeons and supply donated corneas free of charge.

Many patients awaiting surgery are young Afghans who lost their eyesight in explosions, accidents, traumatic injuries and welding-related incidents.

Dr Noor Zaman Hashim of Noor Eye Hospital said Taliban officials had verbally ordered surgeons to stop operating, warning that doctors feared severe punishment if they disobeyed.

🚨 Iran when women were still free, in the 1970s 🇮🇷

Look at this picture for a moment.

No mandatory hijab. No morality police enforcing religious dress codes. Just women enjoying a moment together, dressed how they chose.

Now imagine being told that the freedom to make those choices could one day be taken away.

That’s part of what happened to women in Iran after the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

And the story is even more heartbreaking when you understand what came before it.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Iran underwent significant social changes under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

Women gained the right to vote in 1963. More women entered universities, joined the workforce, and pursued careers in medicine, law, education, and other professions.

Women could serve in parliament, become judges, and participate in public life in ways that had been much more restricted in previous generations.

And in major cities like Tehran, Western-style clothing was increasingly common.

But here’s something important.

Iran was not a perfect society before 1979.

The Shah’s government was authoritarian, political dissent was suppressed, and many women, particularly in rural and conservative communities, faced significant social restrictions.

Still, the revolution brought a dramatic change to women’s personal freedoms.

After the Islamic Republic came to power, the government gradually introduced compulsory hijab requirements and rolled back important legal protections for women.

By 1983, appearing in public without the required Islamic covering could result in punishment.

Think about what that meant.

A woman who had spent years choosing how to dress could suddenly face legal consequences for making the same choice.

A generation of women who had experienced greater personal freedom watched their daughters grow up under a very different set of rules.

And here’s the part that should make everyone think.

Rights that take generations to achieve can be weakened or taken away remarkably quickly.

But the women of Iran never stopped fighting.

In September 2022, the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini after her detention by Iran’s morality police sparked protests across the country.

Women removed their headscarves in public. Some cut their hair in protest. Students, mothers, daughters, and men joined demonstrations demanding change.

Their message was simple:

WOMAN. LIFE. FREEDOM.

Three words that became a worldwide symbol of resistance.

And despite arrests, violence, and enormous personal risks, Iranian women continued challenging the restrictions placed upon them.

Here’s what makes their courage so extraordinary.

For many of us, choosing what to wear, what to believe, or how to live our lives feels completely ordinary.

But imagine having to risk your freedom simply to make those choices.

Imagine being punished for showing your hair.

Imagine your daughter growing up knowing that something as personal as her clothing could become a matter of government enforcement.

This is why the struggle for women’s rights in Iran matters far beyond its borders.

It’s not about whether a woman chooses to wear a hijab.

It’s about whether she has the freedom to choose.

A woman should have the right to wear a hijab because of her faith, just as another woman should have the right not to wear one.

Neither should be forced.

And neither should be punished for her decision.

Iran is a nation with thousands of years of extraordinary history, culture, literature, and intellectual achievement.

Its women have helped shape that history for centuries.

They deserve a future where their opportunities are not determined by government restrictions on their personal lives.

A future where girls can dream without fear.

Where women can express themselves freely.

Where dignity and equality are protected.

And where freedom is not something people have to risk their lives to experience.

🇮🇷❤️ The women of Iran deserve the freedom to choose their own future.

The question is not whether Iranian women are strong enough to fight for their rights.

They have already demonstrated extraordinary courage.

The question is how much longer they will have to fight.

Malaysia keeps RM100 million Gaza aid pledge,

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia remains committed to providing RM100 million in reconstruction aid to Gaza, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last year, but its implementation has been hampered by the deteriorating security situation in the territory.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the aid would be implemented when conditions on the ground were more conducive, to ensure its effective delivery.

“To implement it, the situation on the ground is not permitting, because things there are not getting better. Instead, Israel is becoming more aggressive and is destroying Gaza,” he said, when winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2027 (Budget 2027) at the policy stage for his ministry, in the Dewan Rakyat, yesterday.

Since 2023, a total of RM89 million has been channelled through the Humanitarian Trust Fund for the People of Palestine (AAKRP) to assist Palestinians in need, with more than RM12 million disbursed this year.

Meanwhile, Mohamad said that he would seek clarification from Myanmar over claims that about 300 of its citizens, who were repatriated from Malaysia, were still being detained by the military in Yangon.

He also said that he would instruct the chargé d’affaires in Myanmar to investigate the claim, and obtain information on the condition of those reportedly detained.

KUALA LUMPUR: Local workers who choose not to contribute to the Non-Employment Injury Scheme (LINDUNG 24 Jam) must fill out a liability release certificate form that can be downloaded online starting Monday.

Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the workers would also need to inform their employers’ human resources departments of their decision as the scheme’s contributions are paid by the employer.

He said workers who complete the liability release certificate will be exempted from contributing for the month of July.

“The certificate is important to prevent SOCSO or the employer from being blamed in the future after an employee chooses not to contribute.

“If an accident, injury or death occurs outside of working hours, the employer and SOCSO will not be responsible for any liability or payment of benefits,” he said at a press conference here today

Bonnie Tyler, the gravelly voiced, Grammy-nominated Welsh pop star best known for singing the chart-topping power ballad "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in 1983 and seeing new generations succumb to its bombastic charms during solar and lunar eclipses, has died. She was 75.

Tyler died "unexpectedly" in a hospital in Portugal where she was being treated for an illness, her family said Thursday in a statement on her website.

She was hospitalised in May in Faro, where she had a home, for emergency intestinal surgery and was later placed in an induced coma.

"Bonnie's family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for, her family said.

Tyler earned three Grammy nods, represented Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 - where she came in 19th - and was awarded an MBE for her services to music by Queen Elizabeth II in 2023, all largely thanks to "Total Eclipse of the Heart," which has had more that 1 billion streams, boosted by real eclipses in 2017 and 2024.

KUALA LUMPUR, 4 Jun (Bernama) -- Lima penumpang tren Laluan Kelana Jaya cedera apabila tren yang dinaiki berhenti secara serta-merta setelah sistem keselamatan automatik tren diaktifkan petang tadi.

Rapid KL dalam kenyataan memaklumkan insiden berkenaan melibatkan tren bernombor 62 ketika berada berhampiran Stesen Dang Wangi pada 6.07 petang.

Kenyataan itu menyebut insiden berlaku apabila sistem keselamatan automatik tren diaktifkan ketika tren sedang bergerak keluar dari stesen, menyebabkan tren berhenti secara serta-merta sebagai langkah kawalan operasi.

Menurut Rapid KL, pengaktifan sistem itu adalah sebahagian daripada ciri keselamatan tren sedia ada yang direka untuk memastikan sebarang situasi luar jangka dapat ditangani dengan segera.

“Susulan pemberhentian tren secara serta-merta, seorang penumpang yang sedang berdiri dipercayai hilang imbangan sehingga botol air yang dipegangnya terlanggar panel kaca di bahagian sisi tempat duduk. Impak berkenaan menyebabkan panel kaca itu pecah dan serpihannya terkena pada beberapa penumpang yang duduk berhampiran,” menurut kenyataan itu.

Berikutan itu, lima penumpang mengalami kecederaan dengan dua daripada mereka dibawa ke Hospital Kuala Lumpur untuk mendapatkan rawatan lanjut manakala tiga lagi penumpang menerima rawatan di lokasi sebelum meneruskan perjalanan mereka.

Menurut Rapid KL, penumpang lain di dalam tren tidak mengalami sebarang kecederaan dan telah diturunkan di Stesen Damai untuk meneruskan perjalanan menggunakan tren berikutnya.

Kenyataan itu menyebut, sebagai langkah berjaga-jaga dan prosedur operasi standard, tren terlibat telah dikeluarkan daripada perkhidmatan bagi membolehkan pemeriksaan teknikal menyeluruh dilaksanakan dengan lebih terperinci.

Perkhidmatan Laluan Kelana Jaya beroperasi seperti biasa sepanjang tempoh pengendalian insiden berkenaan, namun terdapat pelarasan pada kekerapan tren di beberapa lokasi sementara tren yang terlibat dibawa keluar daripada perkhidmatan.

Rapid KL telah memulakan siasatan lanjut bagi mengenal pasti punca insiden dan akan terus memastikan tahap keselamatan serta keselesaan penumpang sentiasa diberi keutamaan.

“Penumpang dinasihatkan supaya sentiasa berpegang pada pemegang tangan dan berada dalam kedudukan stabil sepanjang perjalanan, khususnya ketika tren sedang bergerak atau menghampiri stesen,” menurut kenyataan itu.

One of the men involved in the assault at a bak kut teh restaurant in Kepong last Thursday, 7 May, has been identified as the same suspect who allegedly slashed a victim with a cleaver two years ago
The suspect, 30-year-old memorial centre worker Wan Ken Fei, was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court yesterday, 14 May, with voluntarily causing grievous hurt under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

Wan was jointly charged alongside carpenter Wong Weng Luen, 49, and technician Lai Kae Bin, 33. The trio claimed trial to assaulting a man after he reportedly stared at them at the restaurant.

Following the court proceedings, netizens discovered that Wan was also previously involved in an assault on 4 September 2024.

In that case, Wan, who was reported to have been working as a vegetable trader at the time, allegedly slashed then-24-year-old Muhammad Aidiel Zulhilmi Mohammad Yusri with a 32cm-long cleaver, reported the New Straits Times.

He was charged with two offences, causing grievous hurt and possessing a scheduled dangerous weapon in public, which carry prison sentences of more than 20 and 10 years, respectively.

The 2024 incident was also captured on camera, showing him wearing a green shirt while allegedly assaulting a part-time worker during a double-parking dispute at the Pekan Kepong flats
Several videos circulating on social media show Wan striking the victim while bystanders attempt to intervene.

In one clip, a person recording the incident claims that a knife was used during the altercation.

Wan can also be heard in one of the videos saying that the victim had attacked him first.

The victim was later rushed to hospital and required 35 stitches for his injuries.

Just now ayam went to 1 kopitiam order kopi ais the lady bos reject 1 of the rm1 notes have tape sealing on the tearing part.. ayam then rejects the drink and move to another shop.
