Recipe for delicious dhal?

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering whether anybody have the recipe for making really really good dhal (you know, the lentil sauce that always accompanies roti canai)? I really <3 that sauce and I'm missing it a lot here in Canada. Hope any good chefs/cooks here can provide me with their homemade recipe (secret ingredients included, if any ). Imma want to put it over rice or even spaghetti!!

Thanks in advance!!

TY

Kowing Chicks/Students Overseas

Hi all CC-ers,

First of all I sincerely apologize if my moved thread was a nuisance to the CC community. Sorry. SORRY

Now back to real CC business .. I'm going overseas to study soon, Canada to be exact, and I would like to know, especially from those experienced in having been or are still in a r/s with them foreigners: how do you interact with foreign girls in Western countries, much less get into a r/s with them? ..

Strictly speaking, foreign girls do not necessarily mean the Caucasians, but also girls foreign to Malaysia as well as the country they are studying in (in my case, maybe the Japanese or Koreans or Indians, etc). More on how to approach these type of Asians who study overseas when there might be some sort of a communication barrier (eg you only know English and their English might not be that good. I'm not saying their English are terrible so please dun flame me)? haha

Also, we always see that there are a lot pairings of Caucasian Dude-Asian Chick but not often we see Asian Dude-Caucasian Chick (Bruce Lee is the most notable exception). Like what my Indian friend who went to the US of A a few months ago told me: "Chinese guys don't stand a chance, unlike Indians (like him, referring to himself)".

So those lucky guys and those who have the know how on both types of chicks while overseas, please advise. Thank you..

Note: please, this is not a sick as f*** fetish, nor is it intended to be racial. It's just wanting knowledge on how to adapt..
Improve My Overall Appearance?

Hi all, as the topic says, I'm seriously looking into ways to improve my overall appearance. I'm in my early 20s and at this stage in life, I can see many things that are wrong with me and it bothers me no end, especially in a few months time I will be alone for years overseas to further my studies (I don't want to become some "Asian Terrorist" or smth ><). This undoubtedly created a lot of stress to me but I'm willing to change in the name of improvement. I hope all you kind samaritans here can help me with this.

The Hair

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

My hair is decreasing. I've noticed this since I was 16 years old and it's gotten decidedly worse over the years. I thought it was going to go away once I hit the 20s because of hormonal imbalance at that time but sadly it has gotten worse. I now fear going out in the open meeting people. Because if I do up my hair, the loss of hair will be apparent. But if I don't, visually speaking, it is disrespectful to the person I'm seeing, be it for business or private matters. Besides, I always get nagged by my parents if I go out without doing up my hair.

My hair is the straight, wiry, "durian" type of hair and if I don't do it up, it looks ugly. I'm not as blessed as other people who have nice curly or wavy hair who can afford to go out without doing up their hair and yet still look good. This has given me somewhat of a confidence crisis, although it is not apparent to those near me because I used to hone my image and behaviour to stomach up any injustice, unhappiness or crises all by myself. But that is another matter altogether.

On my hair loss, I think it is more to the hair follicles not growing back the hair that I lost. I read a lot of threads for solutions and I see that that is the case. I do not get stacks of hair in my hand when I wash my head. Only on occasions I get one or two strands in my hand. I do not have bad habits of pulling my own hair. It is just not growing back. I don't know if it is MPB so I'll post up pictures, hopefully someone can tell me. I also do not know if it is genetic because my mum and dad still has lots of hair, even when they are in their late 40s and early 50s respectively. I even dare say that my dad has more hair than me when I last compared a few days ago!! But on the other hand, I think my scalp is pretty oily for starts. I used to hate it very much when after one shower in the morning, once it is evening, my whole face and head will be oily like anything. Even to this day it is still like this.

I do not trust all those Yun Nam or 101 Hair care treatments because from my mum's friends I've heard that they are scams and in some cases, more hair fell off than used to be. On the other hand, I do sit in front of the computer quite a lot and my mum has said my hair loss is not genetic but from the computer's radiation. From this I'm all confused already.

It's really ugly, especially once I'm out of the shower and I can see the scalp of my head through the mirror.

Hair Loss Pictures

The Shoulders

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

My shoulders are not even in length. My left shoulder is longer than my right. My right is also slightly deformed, I think, because my left shoulder is thicker than my right. I noticed this only about two years ago but I don't know what to do with this. I know I will not look that good in form fitting shirts compared to other normal people who have shoulders formed normally. When I wear shirts, most of the cloth will go towards the left side, and thus the neckhole of the shirt will always move to the left and I have to constantly adjust it.

I think it might be due to when in my secondary school years, I used to lie down sideways, resting on my right elbow when reading books for long hours. This has affected me to a certain extent as well. I used to train my body at home, using a chin up bar and a dumbbell regularly and because of this shoulder problem, I seem to have OCD of touching and measuring my shoulder's lengths everytime I finish doing an exercise. I know it is not even, but I always carry hopes of it becoming even one day, and this lead to me thinking doing chin ups might even out the shoulders. I think I'm pretty well built but the shoulders are a glaring flaw to me, makes me feel ugly and obviously imperfect. I hope some sifu can help me with this. Pictures below (to see the difference, refer to my collarbone).

[attachmentid=1696265][attachmentid=1696266][attachmentid=1696267]

For those who are interested in helping out in relationships with people:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Finally, it is my social relationships. I used to wonder, why and how people who do not know each other from the start, can over the course of few months (just right after starting college or sec school) form clans or even closed groups of very good friends, who they can share deep and intimate secrets with, and can even call each other "Siblings" on Facebook. I never get such an honor. My friends are very close friends with each other but not me. This has happened in secondary school and I observed that it also happened again during college times. So from there I can deduce that it is my problem and not theirs. They call, text, Facebook message or keep each other in touch almost every single day while my phone is always actionless.

I have a few theory regarding this. One, is I'm just not cool enough for them. In sec school, I tried hard to join their group but in the end, I'm just an outcast. In college, I was the one who joined up two different groups of friends to get to know each other. But from there, I'm slowly excluded again. I'm not the type who is wild or impulsive funny. I consider myself to be abit of a geek, but I also know how to have fun, just that in another way. I think I'm also more serious than usual and in some situations where I have to let loose, I just can't bring myself to do it. Like in clubs with frens where people dance, I always shun it. I just can't bring myself to do it and I sometimes wanna shoot myself literally because there was one time when I joined a club party with frens after one of our frens won a modelling competition. That fren was really beautiful and when we went to club, somehow she just wanted to dance with me but I just said no because I don't know how to dance. It is a self-awareness that I have that is extraordinarily strong, to prevent me from getting embarrassed. That is also part of the reason why I have never gotten drunk despite all those drinking sessions. I somehow observe everything meticulously and I just sip or slow down when I feel tipsy. I also can't sing well in Kara-ok, sounding like a toad in there, embarrassing myself further.

Then in other hand, I'm like a jack of all trades, but master of none. I play sports better than these people, I also study better than these people, but I'm more like the best of the rest type of person. I can't really compete with those born genius or talented thoroughbreds. Then, I'm also a in-between of bananas and the chinese speaking community. I was educated well in English since young but went to chinese primary. But in Malaysia, if you predominantly speak english and speak it well, people consider you banana until you can prove you are equally adept in chinese as well. Well, my chinese is poor to say the least, as I studied it till form 3. I can converse in it without much problems, read and type (not write) but somehow I'm also torn between the "Bananas" and the "all out Chinese" communities that I can mix in.

I'm also quite sarcastic myself and I also consider myself to be quite dense. One fren also told me bluntly that I like repeating used joke to the point of laming it. So I'm not those people who can become PR execs, nutty and witty and spring good jokes from nowhere in the blink of an eye and knows how to have fun. I can do that sometimes, only when I have to take a few minutes to think. And by doing that is extremely awkward. Above all, I look up to these people a lot and wish I can be like them, instead of studying engineering and being able to blurt out all those scientific terms only to be then labelled as a geek or nerd. I do not want to be called nerd back then when I knew it was reserved by frens to those who can score well in exams only, so I also dabbled in sports n some training of the body and won a few medals for my efforts. I consider myself slightly built now but my shoulders disappoint.

I think above most of all, is because of my hair loss and etc that leads to people to shun me. Then again, maybe it is also because I don't socialize as much as they do. My secondary schoolmates like to ask me out to yamcha in the middle of the night, or DotA in cc in middle of night but my parents won't allow it. My college frens also used to ask me to go club with them but like said, parents won't allow. They will say crime rate is high la, not safe la. So now, both clans also never ask me out anymore, except for special circumstances like farewell parties n all, which still I might or might not go.

As for r/s, I only have an ex to boast abt, and that is something 5 years ago. No girls will approach me, because I also think I look ugly myself, with the lost hair and all. I also get some random acne here and there. I also have no guts to approach girls because I'm also aware of my terrible condition, that they beautiful chicks also deserve better than me. So I'm still single and I think quite rightly no girls reading this will approach me either. Yes, don't ask, virgin as well.

So I've been asking God as well, since birds of the same feathers flock together, why am I always flocking together with people who are quite different from me??

So that's about it for my comparatively terrible and miserable life. If I bring this up to some people, they will say be grateful that you at least have a warm family, have food to eat and you still have four limbs with full numbers of fingers and toes and a face, that people are suffering in Africa and Middle East from famine, war and etc as we speak. Yes, that does ring a bell but we are supposed to do the best we can in our environment right? I'm trying to right all those years of wrong but I would like to hear advices from wise people at LYN.

Thank you for hearing my rant.

Close SSPN account

Hi all,

I'm going overseas to Canada in September this year to further my studies. I was in the American Degree Transfer Program since year 2008 and during that time I opened a SSPN account to apply for the PTPTN loan (at that time this rule was still enforced). Naturally, I failed in getting the loan but nevertheless, the SSPN account is still there and had a few thousand ringgit in it.

But since I'm going overseas and the account is registered under my name, I have no more use for the account and would rather take out the $$ inside to convert to CAD instead. So I checked up the website and in it, the method is:

CODE

Membuat tuntutan terus ke Pejabat PTPTN (dengan membawa dokumen
berkaitan seperti salinan MyKad pendeposit, [B]buku akaun pendeposit[/B], Kad
SSPN penerima manfaat, surat tawaran universiti/ surat akuan doktor dan
dsb; atau
Membuat tuntutan pengeluaran menerusi ejen SSPN : dapatkan borang
pengeluaran di kaunter-kaunter ejen, sertakan dokumen berkaitan dan
hantar menerusi ejen SSPN.

But I don't have this "buku akaun pendeposit" unfortunately. All I got from SSPN via mail was the Kad SSPN. Do I have to collect this "buku akaun pendeposit" separately?

On the other hand, Can I close the account via Maybank? I opened my SSPN account via Maybank by the way.

Thanks in advance to all who can help!! Arigatou!!

Study Loans for Overseas Education?

Hi guys,

I'm a student in an ADTP program and going to transfer to Canada's McMaster University soon, so I was wondering where can I find study loans which suits people in the same situation as me (transfer credit to do Engineering at a foreign country)? I hope to take a loan or two (not bank loans), so that I can reduce the burden on my parents, especially since the Government is going to gradually reduce subsidies and I still have 5 more siblings after me >.< ..the fees add up to about RM300k but then again with the co-op program I can cut the cost..still, with a loan it can lift a huge weight off my shoulders..

I'm not sure I can actually get one from JPA, so I would like more input.

I would gladly appreciate all help from everyone who has the know how. Thank you!

Students going to McMaster University?

Internship for Chem Engineering?

Dear all,

I am new here and I have a trivial (I think) matter. I'm majoring in Chem Engineering in American Degree Program but I'm waiting for transfer to overseas uni in August/September 2010 so in the meantime I'm directionless . My senior told me to try and get an internship but he is speaking from a business student's angle!

Now I understand business students have more internship chances but I'm not so sure about Engineering, more so Chem Eng. I took Chem Eng with the aim of working in an O&G company or Renewable energy company but I don't know where to start or whether there is any hope in hoping for them to create an internship for me just like that. I have though of emailing my unspectacular CV to some Human Resource departments of multinational companies even though they did not advertise internships, in the hope that they can just create one for me , but I think that is plain suicidal .

I hope all you kind chaps can enlighten me on this. Thanks.
