SINGAPORE - Singapore men woke up to shock and horror after publicity images of the 2017 Miss Singapore were circulated online. As compared to past beauty queens, the best of Singaporean beauty was abysmal.

Reporter Wan Dan Liao went on the streets to find out what Singaporean men think. You will be shocked.

Meeting Lao Tee Koh aged 70 at a neighbourhood kopitiam, Tee Koh said: "Wa lan eh, this has got to be the worst edition ever. Just go the Geylang and you can find girls who look more sexy and curvy. If this is the best Singapore can offer, our standard really cannot make it. I rather go become a monk."

Hoping to get a different perspective from a younger man, Xiao Tee Koh aged 32 painted a hopeless picture. Mr. Xiao shared: "Even my friends at work dress better and look better than these monkeys. I think I will turn gay if the standards don't improve. Even lesbians at Pink Dot look so much better than these jokes.

Where is the quality control and what are the judges doing? Are they delusional to believe Singaporean beauty standards are so low? All Singapore men just turn gay and harakiri lah! It's the end."

If these sentiments are accurate, the PAP government are in for a hard time and Singapore's birth rates do not look likely to improve anything soon.

My car already shits out 200PS/147KW and already smokes 80% cars on the road. With ECU upgrade and a new intake, I could potentially gain 30-40% more power - BUT - is it a sane thing to do?

I dont do Friday or Saturday nights. It's my daily ride and i'm getting 10-12 km/litre which I'm happy about. Rarely go "outstation". However, there'll be SOME days when I'm on the highway and I get smoked by someone once in a while and my car is running out of breath to catch up.

My concern is that with greater power, i lose sanity and responsibility as a good driver on our roads due to lack of self-discipline.

Upgrade, or do NOT upgrade?

Hi all

After building my own NAS rig using Freenas I think my PSU is dying. The USB ports are playing up and my keyboard dies once in a while and the only way to revive my system is to unplug the power and plug it back on again.

I'm running 4 x SATA2 drives with a basic graphic card and no other fancy stuff. I've disconnected my optical drive as i dont need it anymore. And since it's a NAS that's switched on 24x7, i've hooked up 4 cooling fans onto the casing as well. CPU cooling is standard fan, nothing fancy.

My gut feel is that I'll need at minimum a 600W PSU but I want to know should this be higher. My future requirements are that I may want to add another 2 more drives to the NAS rig to expand it further in 12-18 month's time.

Any advice?

Folks, I just downloaded the latest IOS with multitasking. I like the double click function on the Home button but I'm wondering if this multitasking really works. If you open Safari, e webpage a in background won't load till you actually activate the page. Is this true or it's only me?

I used e rotate lock quite often but now it's reprogrammed as mute. Bit of bummer. I'm not an Apple gangly but I think the iPad really rocks, my constant travel companion. I saw the Galaxy and it's still too small for me.

For those who haven't download it yet, it's approximate 520MB, and too about 3 hours on my 512k streamyx.

Fuiseh.. new Nikon Centre @ BTS

I went there today and I must say i am super impressed, keep it up Nikon Malaysia on your new Nikon Store at Berjaya Times Square Level 1 (facing Jalan Imbi & entrance of BTS).

So many yummy things to play with like 500mm f/4, 400mm f/2.8, 300mm f2.8 and the new 80-200mm f/2.8 VR II, mounted on D3, D300s and D700. They even put a mini diaorama in the center for you to play with the D3000 & 5k as well as some PnS cams. BTS is sure nearer my home compared to PJ old town and this place is a lot more conducive (and seductively poisonous as well).

it was just a FUIYOH experience for me. anybody go, and had the same experience?

Review of Tamron SP 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II VC

Hi All, I recently bought this lens and I thought I'd give it a review. As this is my first time, please allow for errors and I'm happy to edit this post for corrections. I guess my objective is to provide more info for those who are considering buying this lens. I know a lot of Sony (thanks Freddy), Canon and Nikon users like this lens due to the constant f/2.8 and the price.

This is the Vibration Control (VC) version of the popular SP 17-50mm f.2.8 XR Di II. The non-VC version is still available in the market and I've used it once for an event shoot. At the end of the day I was very impressed with the quality of the images in terms of image contrast and sharpness. Focusing speed wasnt a real issue for me on my Nikon D300 but I must admit I spent 90% of my time shooting outdoors at that time.

I sold my Nikkor AF-S 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 G along with the D70 and had only a Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8 D for about 6 months and sorely needed a replacement zoom. As with most people, funding is always an issue so I carefully researched on what I should buy to cover the wide to tele range for the wedding shoots that I do. I've been advised to invest in good glass and was thinking of going for a 2nd hand AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED. I was also considering an ultra-wide Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 as well. The VC version then came on the market and was something worth considering. Popular sites said it's a good lens but has slow focus and produces Transformer noises when focusing. My unit focuses as fast as my Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8 D and the noise level is similar if not quieter than the 50mm. No complains there.

The Tamron SP 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II VC fitted with Hoya Pro1 Digital MC UV filter, with hood folded backwards for storage.

The VC with hood removed. Buttons include auto/manual focus, VC on/off. Also included is a "lock" button to lock the zoom at 17mm to prevent zoom creep. When the shutter release button is pressed, the VC goes into action and the tiny whirring sounds of "Transformer" will appear. In addition the image inside the viewfinder will shake a little. I've tried hand held shots up to 1/15th of a second and the images were still acceptable.

The front of the lens does not rotate during focusing, good for circular polarizers. However when maxed out to 50mm, the lens extends out. I prefer zoom lenses that do not extend out though to maintain a constant length, but that's just me. What I'm impressed me is the very short minimum focusing distance. I find this feature particularly useful when doing wedding shots of yumsing crowds where I can get real wide & tight into a shot at 17mm. Careful though, the focus ring turns and you have to take note when resting your lens on something during a shoot. The focusing right is located on the outside nearer to the filter and the wider zoom right closer to the camera body. The VC has a built-in motor and does not rely on the body to drive the focus mechanism and that's good for folks with Nikon D40/40x/50/60.

Here's a relative size of the VC compared to the Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8 D. The VC is bigger than the non-VC (67mm) and uses a 72mm filter size. When fitted on my D300, the VC balances quite nicely especially with the MB-D10 vertical grip fitted. Sigh, this means investing in 72mm CPL filters which can be costly.

With petal hood fitted. The zoom ring is firm and does not have excessive play. Build quality is good and quite comparable to a Nikkor. The lens feels solid and heavy enough without having the plasticky look. The petal hood comes free with the lens. The rear lens cap is different from the standard Nikkor caps and must be aligned before it can be locked in. The front lens cap is similar to Nikkor pinch-type lens caps. Wish it came with a carry pouch though.

Hope you've found this simple review useful and informative for your next purchase. I'll try to post some pictures taken with the VC soon if there's enough requests to show image sharpness, contrast & bokeh.

Vosonic - repair needed

I got a Vosonic thing which I bought in Singapore but now the controls kaput. I checked the website and it says "please send to Taiwan for repairs". MSN them also said the same thing.

Anyone knows if there is a local repair centre who can replace the multi-directional control knob for my Vosonic?

Sorry ah, I dunno where to post this so I thut "Hardware" is a good start.
