India's UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin reiterated New Delhi's stance that Kashmir is not an international conflict. He accused Zhang of trying to pass off his remarks as "the will of the international community," adding that India's latest Kashmir move was an internal matter.

"If there are issues, they will be discussed, they will be addressed by our courts; we don't need international busybodies to try and tell us how to run our lives. We are a billion-plus people," Akbaruddin told reporters.

GEORGE TOWN: A fish breeder in Teluk Bahang has suffered losses of about RM800, 000 after more than 50, 000 of his fish died.

Ooi Hye Hin, 57, said he was alarmed to find that the fish started "jumping" in the waters at about 1am on Sunday (Aug 11).

"I knew something was wrong then and true enough, I found all of them dead this morning.

"This is the second time this year I have been hit. The first was in May and now this. It is worse than the first time because all my fish have died.

A team from Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies (Cemacs) was also on site Sunday to conduct a preliminary investigation on the death of the fish.

It was reported in May that the sea off Teluk Bahang was said to be contaminated by heavy metals.

Fish were dying by the thousands and Ooi had reportedly said many of the fish breeders suffered losses due to the sea pollution, which caused the death of their fish stock.

GEORGE TOWN: The severity of damage to a flooded car can be divided into three levels and the worst can cost up to RM50,000 to repair, said car workshop co-owner Chan Kok Hoe.
“If the car is submerged while the engine is dead, there will not be serious repairs. If the owner drove through a flooded road and the engine stalls, it will still be nothing major.
“But if the driver tries to restart a stalled or submerged car, then the electronic engine control unit (ECU) will be shorted out and it will cost a bomb to fix,” he said.
It has been eight days since the floods began on the night of Nov 4, and Chan and his crew were still towing damaged cars to the workshop as of yesterday.
His 43-year-old company, Chan Brothers, is part of a network of over 20 tow trucks on Penang island and he charges RM120 per tow on the island.
“Each of our tow trucks handles about 10 cars a day. We still have cars on our waiting list and we are still getting calls.
“Now that many victims are done cleaning their homes, their attention will be on their cars.
“On the mainland, tow trucks from Kedah, Perak and Kuala Lumpur went to help,” he said.

Based on the calls his network has been getting, Chan estimates up to 10,000 cars in Penang were affected by the disaster.
“My handphones have been ringing every two to three minutes since the floods. At first, I got calls until 3am and customers were scolding me,” he said.
Chan’s crew member K. Ananthi, 35, said the first call to tow a flooded car came in at about 8.30pm on Nov 4.
“It was in Bayan Baru where the water was waist-high. We tried to reach the car but couldn’t so we went to the next call in Bandar Baru Ayer Itam but that was also too deep for our tow truck,” she said.
Chan also said many car owners were stunned by the repair cost estimates from manufacturers’ service and repair centres.
“Many cars we towed were still under warranty and owners wanted their cars to be sent to the manufacturers’ service centres.
“Their repair quotations can come up to RM50,000 because new original parts must be used to maintain the warranty,” he said.
Since many owners do not have flood insurance for their cars and cannot afford the cost of repairs, they would then call him again to tow their cars to independent workshops.
“You can get the repairs done for about RM1,000 in these workshops, unless you shorted the ECU.
“Then you need a used ECU, which costs about RM7,000 for the average car to RM30,000 for a BMW,” he added.
In contrast, Chan said he found that owners of cars insured against floods were relieved.
“Car owners who live in low-lying areas tend to insure against floods. For others, it’s a miserable time.”
He said his company towed several cars for free when he knew the owners were poor and he also found charitable people to sponsor the repairs.

Johor Permaisuri Raja Zarith Sofiah is sad that a posting on her Facebook page regarding a seminar to raise awareness on paedophilia has met with lukewarm response from other users.

Taking to Facebook this afternoon, she said the posting on the seminar was only shared twice and garnered 48 “likes”.

“But when the post is about a family friend, or meeting a foreign royal figure, everybody will just hit 'like'. So, obviously, no one cares about those men who abuse our children.

“Do we wait until our own child has been abused before we show we care?” she asked.

Raja Zarith said if the seminar does not garner the interest or capture the attention of Malaysians, then the future of children who have been sexually abused is bleak.

“No one cares. Thank you, fellow Malaysians, for showing your unconcern. Obviously, what the children have to suffer or what they go through is of no interest to most people.

“If my next post is of what I had for lunch, I am sure more people are interested in that. Sad,” she said.

Yesterday, Raja Zarith graced the Johor Paedophilia Crime Awareness Seminar 2017 organised by the Darul Ta'zim Family Development Foundation at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru.

Last year, the police revealed that almost 10,000 cases of children falling victim to some type of sex crime had been recorded between 2013 and 2016.

More than 50 percent of the victims were in the 13-15 age group and 91 percent of the perpetrators were known to the victims.

It was also revealed that investigations showed that most victims befriended offenders via social media.

Meanwhile, the police also warned that the number of people accessing child pornography was alarming and worrying

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has called on the government to defer the mandatory implementation of emergency call devices until the industry is ready. The plan has proposed the devices to be implemented on all newly-registered vehicle starting from 2019.

Details of the proposed emergency call equipment are scarce, except that it is to come from one as-yet unnamed Malaysian supplier, an arrangement MAA president Datuk Aishah Ahmad has called ‘ridiculous’ because of possible major complications should there be any issues arising from that single supplier.

KUALA LUMPUR: The city's largest urban entertainment, food and beverage (F&B) and retail hub, The Arch, is expected to open to the public by end-2018.

According to the project developer, Focus Dynamics Group Bhd, the RM85 million venture will begin construction by the third quarter of this year, and take about 18 months to be completed.

The Arch fronts Jalan Tun Razak on one end and is located adjacent to TREC KL, the headquarters of the RHB Banking Group and the Royal Selangor Golf Club.

Executive Director Edward Leung said the five-storey building on 1.57ha, will have an estimated gross floor area of 530,000 sq ft, with gross lettable area of 435,300 sq ft.

"The Arch comprises retail lots cum showrooms, food and beverage outlets, a multi purpose event hall, a Chinese restaurant and 800 parking lots," he told reporters after the groundbreaking ceremony here, today.

The event was officiated by the Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Leong said the project cost included construction, renovation, fixtures and fittings, as well as working capital, adding, the company invested RM43.35 million in funding, while business partners invested RM41.65 million.

This works out to 51% and 49% of the total project funding requirement.

"Focus Dynamics' strategy is to continue breaking boundaries in creating the latest, and hippest concepts in F&B and lifestyle establishments.

"This is not our first such project, neither will it be our last. We have proven our mettle in the Tropicana area and aim to do so in the Greater Kuala Lumpur region," Leong said. — Bernama
