Nurul Syazwani married the man in 2016, and after two years of a long-distance marriage, he was involved in a car accident that left him incapacitated for six years, as reported by Sin Chew Daily.

During his recovery, Syazwani assumed the role of his primary caregiver with remarkable dedication. Her daily routine involved feeding him through a nasogastric tube, changing his diapers, and assisting him with bathing.

In 2019, she began sharing her caregiving experiences on social media, which not only gained her attention but also helped her amass over 32,000 followers on Facebook.

Syazwani recalled: “At that time, I was terrified whenever he coughed. I performed rehabilitation for him every day, and my family came to assist me daily, allowing me to rest.”

The couple have a son together.

However, circumstances changed following a recent Facebook post where Syazwani shared a wedding photo that unexpectedly featured the man she had cared for over the years along with his new bride.

She extended her congratulations to her ex-husband on his new marriage, writing: “Congratulations to my ‘husband’. I hope you are happy with the one you chose. Aifa Aizam, please take good care of him like I did. I am done with him; now it is your turn to take over.”

The post quickly garnered attention and sparked controversy, prompting Syazwani to delete it shortly after.

She followed up with another post, clarifying that they had fulfilled their responsibilities as a married couple and had officially divorced on October 6.

She also announced plans to co-parent their child and urged people not to criticise them, adding: “Everything happens for a reason.”

Reports indicate that her ex-husband married the new wife just one week after their divorce.

Survey: Migrants, LGBTQIA+, refugees most vulnerable to rights abuses in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — Migrants, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and refugees or asylum seekers face high risks of arbitrary arrest and torture in Malaysia, the latest edition of an international human rights tracker released recently said.

In the latest Human Rights Measurement Initiative’s (HRMI) Index Rights Tracker, it said that three of the groups shared 67 per cent, respectively, putting them as the groups that were at the higher risk of being arbitrarily arrested.

"Asylum seekers and refugees are at increased risk of arbitrary arrest because Malaysia is not a party to the 1951 Refugee Convention.

"171 Bangladeshi workers were arrested for peacefully protesting their employer, who had deceived them into coming to Malaysia with false promises of employment.

"The government uses repressive laws to arbitrarily arrest those who protest and silence dissent, particularly the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998, which is ambiguously worded, prone to abuse and often arbitrarily applied,” the group cited the points stated by the respondents in the latest edition of its report.

There were five categories listed under the Safety from the State such as right to freedom from torture and ill-treatment, right to freedom from arbitrary arrest, right to freedom from forced disappearance, right to freedom from extrajudicial execution and right to freedom from the death penalty.

In the same survey, the migrants, LGBTQIA+ people and refugees or asylum seekers also shared 67 per cent, respectively for being exposed to torture and ill-treatment.

AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from your AppleCare+ purchase date and adds unlimited incidents of accidental damage protection. Each incident is subject to a service fee.

Tips:
- You can purchase AppleCare+ together with your device at same time, either from Apple Authorized stores or Apple.
- If you have not purchased AppleCare+, you can purchase directly on the device which does not require any diagnostic from Apple, you just key in the payment info and coverage is activated immediately. If you bought it on the Apple website, you will need to perform a remote diagnostics for Apple to check your condition of the device.
- You have 60 days to purchase the AppleCare+ on your device from device activation date, and it shows up directly in the Settings. If you do it on the 55th day for example, your AppleCare+ starts on the 55th day and adds two more years of warranty coverage, so that will be a bonus 55 days of limited warranty coverage for you. However do note if any accidental damage happens within the first 55 days without the AppleCare+ plan then you are not covered.
- If you pass 60 days, you are not able to purchase directly anymore, probably you can contact Support to try to add them in (it may involve physical device inspection) but the coverage start date will probably start on your device activation date and not the day you bought the coverage plan. Your phone still has to be under the 1 year limited warranty.
- After subscribing, you can cancel the plan within 30 days and get a full refund. After 30 days, the refund will be calculated prorated based on remaining time left on the AppleCare+ plan, the value of the refund can be obtained from Apple Support.
- This plan does not cover cosmetic damages eg dents or scratches. If there are failure in components, it will be a free repair or replacement just like how the limited warranty works. If there is an accidental damage, then a service fee applies which is much much lower than out of warranty service fee.
- Free Battery replacement will only happen if battery health is below 80 percent when your coverage plan is still active.
- You may opt for express replacement, meaning a new refurbished phone will be shipped to you immediately, and your credit card will put a temporary hold on the new phone expenses, until you return your broken device (and pay the subsidised replacement fee) to Apple, then the hold will be cleared.
- There is currently no monthly payment option yet like the plan in the US, and also no theft protection plan in Malaysia.
- Students can get cheaper protection plans using UniDAYS for iPad and Macs only but it has to be bought together at same time with the device on the education shop portal.

Kebun Kecil allowed to do open burning in Penang?

I’ve been reporting open burning near my house in the DOE e-aduan and each time the report is shut down saying “ kebun kecil yang kurang daripada 2 hektar sehari” is allowed to open burn in penang. These people even burn at night and there is not a single action taken.

I don’t know what else to do, sell the house? Try a local minister?
Move else where?

S&P: Malaysia High Income by 2025

S&P Global chief economist says Malaysia on track for high-income nation by 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is on track to becoming a high-income economy by 2025 and emerge as a trillion-dollar economy by 2036.

This will partially be attributed to the country's emerging role as a technology leader, S&P Global Market Intelligence chief economist for Asia Pacific Rajiv Biswas said.

A high-income economy according to the World Bank in 2022 is a country with a gross national income per capita of more than US$13,200. Malaysia had a GNI per capita of US$12,000 in 2022.

Biswas told the News Straits Times that Malaysia is among the countries where the industry structure has shifted towards electronics and integrated circuits manufacturing. This industry shift will become an important economic driver for Malaysia.

He said Malaysia has joined the ranks of other technology leaders in the Asia Pacific region namely South Korea, Japan, China, Singapore and Vietnam.

Biswas added that this is especially important because Asia is the biggest driver of global growth, and in the next 10 years half of the total increase in global gross domestic product (GDP) will derive from the Asia Pacific region.

"Malaysia's exports of electrical and electronics products accounted for 38 per cent of total merchandise exports.

"Over the next 20 years, Malaysia will further develop as a hub for exporting manufacturers of electronics, software services and communications industry such as information technology business process outsourcing," he said.

Biswas explained that Malaysia is also one of the beneficiaries of a shift in supply chains where many companies are seeking to reduce its dependency on Northeast Asia due to high labour costs besides geopolitical reasons and natural disasters.

"Malaysia has stable infrastructure, reliable communications, good transport and low risk of natural disasters," he said.

In terms of achieving trillion-dollar economy status, Biswas said this would be a meaningful milestone for Malaysia because S&P forecasts show that at a GDP of US$1 trillion by 2036, GDP per capita will be US$26,300.

"What's really important is GDP per capita, because if a country becomes a trillion dollar economy but the population is huge then it does not really help that much," he said.

Not many developing countries have entered the trillion-dollar economy club, other than Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. In Asean, only Indonesia is on the list.

"By 2030, Malaysia's income per capita will be slightly higher than Turkiye's per capita income, as it will reach US$18,000 by 2030 and Turkiye is an OECD country as well as Mexico with US$15,300 by 2030, which is also an OECD and North American country.

"Other than that, Malaysia's per capita income will also be higher than Russia where it will reach US$15,000 by 2030 and Brazil, which will be US$14,000 by 2030," Biswas said.

He said he agreed with Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali that the State Constitution is a living being, and can be changed over time.

“I hope that we will make the Constitution all encompassing, to include and serve all Sarawakians in Sarawak,” he said in debate in support of the Interpretation (Amendment) Bill at the Sarawak State Assembly (DUN).

The Bill was tabled by Sharifah Hasidah and had been passed by the DUN.

According to See, before the formation of Malaysia particularly during the Brookes’ era, the White Rajahs recognised the potentials of the Chinese contribution in nation building.

He said they encouraged the Chinese to make Sarawak their homes, through giving of squatter licences and grants before 1890, to cultivate, farm and build their homes in Sarawak.

The added efforts culminated in the enactment of the Land Regulations Order No. VIII (8 in Roman numerals), 1920, which came into force from January 1, 1923 vide Sarawak Government Gazette Notification No: 143 (in Roman numerals CXLIII), 1922 dated November 16, 1922 at page 406.

“The enactment, the order cited as the Land Order 1920, repealed all previous Orders, and in interpretation section, section 2, ‘A Native’ means a natural born subject of His Highness the Rajah.

“Literally, this simply means that any natural born Sarawakian is a native in Sarawak, including the Chinese and Indians,” he said.

See said he could not find the relevant latter Order or legislature which had repealed or annulled the native status that was accorded to the Chinese and Indians through the Land Order 1920, but it was and is clearly the provisions in the Federal Constitution and the existing Sarawak Interpretation Ordinance that the Chinese and Indians are not considered as natives of Sarawak.

“Many foreigners have been made natives, and even regarded as members of the indigenous race, by operation of the laws,” he said.

On the Bill, he pointed out the first part of Clause 2 of this Bill has rightly and necessarily promulgated a new Schedule which inserted additional races considered to be indigenous to Sarawak.

He said this includes a person who is a citizen and is a natural born child of a person of a race indigenous to Sarawak.

He added amending the Schedule of the Interpretation Ordinance, 2005 is to express in clarity and be substantially consistent with the recent amendment to Article 161A of the Federal Constitution, to protect and safeguard the special privileges, interests and rights of the first people or the indigenous people of Sarawak.

“Clause 2 (b) of this Bill and the proviso are in relation to those who are not persons or descendants of a race indigenous to Sarawak, but are natives of Sarawak because Sarawak is a country of their origin or birth, or by operation of the laws as described in clause 2 (b) of this Interpretation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022.

“By saying that they should satisfy ‘the conditions and requirements imposed by Majlis Mesyuarat Kerajaan Negeri for recognition of such a person as a native of Sarawak’ and with the expressed proviso that the new Schedule ‘shall not have any effect on any rights and privileges (other than the determination of native status) including relating to inheritance, acquisition, purchase, transfer, sale or disposal of or of other dealing in land subsisting, made or occurring prior to the date of coming into force of this Ordinance, and which has been finally decided by a Court of competent jurisdiction or by a competent authority’, as specified in this Bill, means that others are qualified to be natives, though they are not of a race indigenous to Sarawak,” he argued.

Sarawak bans New Year 2022 celebration

KUCHING: The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has prohibited the holding of any activities to usher in the New Year as the state is still under Phase Three of the National Recovery Plan which requires business premises to cease operations by midnight daily.

Sarawak SDMC, in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 28), said operators of business premises found breaching this ban would be compounded and that enforcement authorities would intensify integrated operations to monitor compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP).

House Extended Kitchen is sinking, please help

My house had a kitchen extension about 7-8 years ago.
We did not do any piling as proposed by the then contractor.
The extended kitchen is fitted with the refrigerator, kitchen cabinets and sink.

But years later, it’s sinking and cracks are showing (looks like spider web from the middle branching out).
We used tape to try to seal the broken parts to avoid mosquitos from coming in.

We found another contractor who took a look and told us there should not be any concern. And if we want to solve it, we had to tear down the entire kitchen extension and rebuild from scratch, and he quoted us RM30k to do so.

Need expert advise on this as we do not what to do- pay RM30k for the contractor to tear down the extension and rebuild with piling? Or is there other ways to fix it?

iPhone damaged after battery changed

Case #1
I brought my iPhone 7 Plus for battery change in Switch Bayan Lepas Penang on December last month, was told that the phone speaker area had a red liquid indicator indicating it’s water damaged but the rest of the phone was fine.
The technician called me and said everything else is still working as it should and proceed with battery change anyway. I left my phone at home in the cupboard at home hardly utilised.

A month later, the phone is bricked. Tried all ways of diagnostics and nothing helped. It’s not near any water source or anything. Apple Support asked me to bring it back to Switch which I did but upon learning that the diagnostic fee should I not accept a replacement of RM1.9k is -RM100.

I’m in a dilemma- A new set of iPhone 7 Plus 128gb right now is RM2.5k. Paying RM1.9k only gets me a refurbished set with 3 months warranty.

Case #2
My Apple Pencil that I newly bought out of the box has the tip not centered even after screwing it out and putting it back in. I contacted Apple Support who ask me bring back to the shop which leads me back to this service centre again. The Switch guy told me that they will try to submit warranty claim but if it fails, because it’s just cosmetic and not functional failure, I need to pay RM100 diagnostic fee if warranty claim fails.

For both my case I have not given in my iPhone or the Apple Pencil for warranty claim but I’m devastated and not sure where to proceed next. I’m not willing to pay the RM100 fee for warranty claim or RM100 fee just to check on the battery on the iPhone. Please help!
