Hisense MiniLED 2023 and Beyond

This is a Hisense MiniLED TV discussion topic. Hisense Malaysia began selling MiniLED Tvs starting with the U7K in 2023. So anyone with questions with regards to 2023 MiniLED models and beyond can ask here. Owners of MiniLED models can share their experiences here as well.

--------
Short review of the 65" U7N.

MiniLED is a huge departure from FALD. I went from U7H to U7N. From what I have read, the U7H is about 700 nits. The U7N is supposed to be about 900-1000 nits (online claims is over 1000 nits) but I don't have special equipment to verify.

Obviously there is still blooming because this is LCD based. But the blooming is tighter and you can only notice it in end credit sequences with white text and black BG.

QLED means the color is vivid. Out of the box the colors seems to be spot on. I used the AVS HD709 color screen video to calibrate using a blue gel filter. Also the brightness and contrast are spot on as well.

TVs from 2022 out of the box seems to had limited the full dynamic range of HDR on all of their inputs. I saw this when I was testing a higher end Sony TV with my Firestick 4K Max at the store. You have to turn it on to get the dynamic range. The same was true for the U7H. With the U7N, this feature is set to automatic and it does work.

On that subject, both the Sony (I can't remember the model but it was in the RM5.5-6K range) and U7H had problems with gradation/banding with Dolby Vision content, IF THE SIGNAL IS COMING FROM AN EXTERNAL SOURCE. I tried it with my Firestick 4K Max using Ted Lasso (S01E01 - when Ted and Coach were just boarding the plane at the beginning of the episode, the banding were on the overhead luggage compartment) and Miss Marvel (S01E04 - when Kamala was talking to her grandmother up on the roof, the sky was banding). Both content were streaming, not downloaded. Using the same Firestick on the Nexigo Aurora Pro didn't exhibit this problem. And with the U7N, this is also no longer a problem.

Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) works. 120Hz gameplay works. When you press Settings on the TV remote, there is a different gaming overlay settings when you connect your console/PC to the TV. HDMI 2.1 are only available in HDMI 3 and 4, just like U7H. EARC is on HDMI 3.

HDR formats the U7N can do are HDR, Dolby Vision and HDR10+. This works well when you're using streaming apps on VIDAA. On the Firestick 4K Max, DV works well but HDR/10+ seems too bright for some reason. The HDR on Newtopia on Prime Video is overly bright on Firestick 4K Max which creates a problem with night time scenes. However, the same content/app played using through VIDAA kicked in a surprising Filmmaker Mode, which corrected the image perfectly. No problem with DV content using VIDAA apps.

It is advisable to choose Dolby Vision Dark as you DV mode. DV Day seems to be too bright. You can see this when you watch Light Shop Ep 1-2 where the darker the scene is, the more scary it looked.

Sound is a big improvement. The U7H has no woofer so sound sounds tiny. The U7N has a woofer so sound is fuller. Not deep bass but enough to hear the midrange and bass better.

Youtube videos to play to test TVs with.

Great use of shadow and light. The bridge has an amazing flash intercuts that will test the TV's brightness and darkness.

Apart from the intro and some shots that are in 480p, this 4K video has some wild 80s color.

I could see there's not much a jump between 800 to 1000 nits on the U7N.

TGV-Maybank Discount inconsistent

So infuriating.

You think it works on any IMAX movie. No, so far only for IMAX 2D movies.

But then they started early bookings for M:I The Final Reckoning. And you still can't use it.

Who's to blame here? TGV or Maybank?

Nexigo Aurora Pro - Ask Me Almost Anything

So I had helped setup a HT system for the office. For video, we've installed the Nexigo Aurora Pro and their own 120" fresnel screen.

The basic info:
- Dolby Vision works. HDR10+ is not, but Nexigo is working on it they said.
- 3D works very well. The projector bundle came with two pairs of 3D glasses.
- Audio from the unit is nothing to shout about. So if you want big sound to go with the big picture, get a home theater or a beefy soundbar.
- Native Android on the unit is not something we'll be using. We are using the Shield Pro instead.
- 4K 60Hz is max. 60Hz video plays fine. Haven't tried gaming yet. No issues so far on non-gaming content.
- HDMI CEC works fine. We can use the Shield remote to turn on everything.
- The fresnel screen has a tight viewing angle. Off axis, the picture will look washout. On axis, the picture is amazing even in daylight.
- A PC connected to the projector will automatically detect its 4K capability. But the scaling is set automatically to 100%, which is crazy small for the icons and web browsers.

Price for the projector and screen is RM20,000, more or less. If you have space and the budget for it, it's something to consider.

Hisense 2022 - Malaysia's TV range

In terms of their premium range, only the U7H has officially been launched.

Key features:
Quantum dot layer
Full-array local dimming
Dolby Vision, HDR10+ (per Hisense SG) Dolby Atmos and DTS X support
120 Hz 8-bit panel
VRR with Freesync Premium
ALLM using HDMI 2.1 port
2 x HDMI 2.1 ports

LCDTVThailand has reviewed the TV last week. They measured the peak brightness of the 55" at 457, a disappointing drop from the U7G, which they measured at 685. The TV reached 95% of the DCI-P3 color space.

According to them, 55" and 65" models have 32 dimming zones. 75" has 48 while 85" has 120; these two sizes are sold in Singapore and only these two.

On the entry level range, Hisense Malaysia have also launched A6100H, A6500H and A7H. Hisense Singapore has launched U6H but only in 55".

In the coming days, maybe Hisense Malaysia will launch the U8H. If they don't, get it from Thailand or Singapore.

Hisense 2021 TV range - something for everyone.

Here's the full line-up.

The U8G would be the one that is the most attractive. If the specs perform as advertise, it could blow Sony X90J and other makes similar to it, out of the water.

This is the full launch video, with a timestamp for the U8G.

With every single model is a FALD, Dolby Vision/Atmos model with HDMI 2.1, Hisense will dominate the market from big brands who made no effort to upgrade their offerings.

Here's hoping Hisense Malaysia brings all of the 2021 models here and price it similar to the US.

So I found this TV listing on Shopee. And I just couldn't believe it.

Just look at the pictures.
