As shown in the photos below, each perch has different pattern of spike distribution. It helps to circulate the blood in the bird's feet. During mating season, the birds need to have strong grip in order to get the "job" done too. It's also recommended to have different type of perch in the cage (cotton perch, sanded perch, wooden perch (smooth surface) and wooden perch with spikes).
