Ipoh user hogging free Net

Read this in the star today, really laugh until want to die ah! Its a single user! using up the bandwidth for one whole town! Looks like its one line TMnet forgot to cap the BT on.

The guy should become an idol for P2P in Malaysia, and be awarded a datukship and get to run the Ministry of Science and Technology.

QUOTE

Free wireless Internet access at Ipoh Padang here has just been launched - but one user is already hogging the service 24 hours a day for the past two months.

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...0115&sec=nation

No wonder our local seeds have been so fast for the past 2 months

A tour of MediaDefender

So you finally manage to bypass the TMnet torrent block, through VPN or proxys or other methods and you're able to access all the content the P2P web can offer.

You notice the latest hollywood blockbuster or music hit at your fav torrent site, and start the download. And you think all is good, watch out, because besides wanting to track you, the copyright agencies also want to do one more thing"WASTE YOUR TIME" by "polluting" P2P networks and slowing you down.

Ars Technica has a brief article how they do it through a company called MediaDefender
http://arstechnica.com/articles/culture/mediadefender.ars/1

Found these pictures of the MyIX data center while surfing the blog of one of Singapores internet "gurus" who was invited to tour the place. At least they have some equipment are they're monitoring "something". What traffic it is I dunno.

Perhaps this is where all the local torrent traffic is going through

Did a search of LYN too and theres been no posts about MyIX since:
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=412909&hl=myix
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=381943&hl=myix

Ok, heres the link and the pics:
http://james.seng.sg/archives/2007/03/03/myix.html

Datacenter:
http://james.seng.sg/files/public/myix-visit.JPG

Traffic Monitor (Nice wide screen LCD):
http://james.seng.sg/files/public/myix-peering.JPG

Cheap Permanent IP Connection

Hi all,
Wondering if you guys have any experience with companies offering broadband with a permanent IP? I'm looking for it cheap, below rm200 a month.

So far from the big ISPs I've found Maxis wired at rm150 (not avaliable outside KL, so not an option) and Jaring Business at rm199 a month. Any other options I've missed?

Speed is not an issue as long as its 128kb and above. Leased lines way too expensive even for just 64k

Purpose is to run in-house DNS, and VPN server.
